fair warning: this is Christmas board :D

I've picked up some bits and pieces from Boots' £10 Tuesdays, e.g. makeup and brushes that can go to present appeals by local charities. Also ordered some new velvety red Christmas stockings which arrived today. They feel horrible so will return, unfortunately. I also got Christmas cards from the Barnardo's sale earlier this year.

What have you got so far?

You know it's April, right?! 😱

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 27/04/2025 18:57

Nothing yet, everything I'd bought so far this year ended up being for DD's birthday. As soon as April is over I start planning for Christmas (not very considerate of DH to have a November birthday 😏)

Countesschaos · 27/04/2025 18:59

a cruise. i am done with the whole stress of christmas and DH and I are going on a cruise and will be away for christmas!

I do find this thread depressing. Why on earth would we want to think about Christmas? It’s only April!

PoodlesRUs · 27/04/2025 19:09

Have added some wrapping paper and ribbon to my Christmas bundle. Finished most of it last year. Green & gold this time around :)

If you find it depressing, don’t open it. Simples! 👏🏻

For some people, it’s about budgeting to get everyone something on limited funds and taking advantage of sales.

For others, it’s about taking the time to find things their recipients will love.

For others, it’s not about buying things but making sure they have the raw materials to make their hand crafted gifts with love at a suitable time.

For many, it’s a combination of all of the above.

But as others say, this is a thread on the Christmas board. Which is for lovers of Christmas all year round and allows the extension of the spirit of the season to much more than the 12 days of the festive season. Or a sharing of the pressures and of ways to overcome those. Or both.

(As someone who normally has to buy for roughly 50, do cards for 60+, and manage a manic festive season in the midst of a manic work season…this board has been a lifesaver many times…and a source of fun and peace among like-minded people even more often!)

Cards, gift bags and wrapping paper in the sales. I always start with those. Also started browsing places like EBay for unwanted gifts etc. I always do this around this time of year and start storing them.

WilfredsPies · 01/05/2025 12:29

I normally start around this time of year, but I’m feeling a bit behind having read some of the above posts 😊. I do like a good sale, so keeping an eye out for bargains.

Daisydiary · 01/05/2025 12:31

Just the usual cards, paper and crackers from the sales.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 03/05/2025 10:27

I usually start after my summer holiday, but have started to have a nosy at sales already.

For those complaining it’s April/May, I start early so I can afford it.

TinselTarTars · 03/05/2025 13:22

I recently got Christmas jumpers and pj's, which are still in the next clearance online. Also booked a Christmas experience but have to remind myself where the tickets are stashed!

Sockersandbox · 03/05/2025 15:27

My people!!

I usually start after the school summer holidays but will be starting early this year as we are going away in December so need to be organised and spread the cost

Mummapenguin20 · 03/05/2025 15:45

This thread makes me happy. I have started on all 5 of our children started my mil and started my dp have all my wrapping paper too. Once may half term is over I intend on wrapping what I have and writing it in my book as I do it so I don’t double buy. I also do park Christmas for vouchers and gift cards the vouchers for the kids In the family gift cards for the food shops I also have all the xmas eve stuff from there too xx

Partyowl21 · 04/05/2025 09:23

I had never even thought of picking bits up in the sales for the toy / gift appeals so thank you. I will keep my eyes open now especially as no children or young adults in the family.

MeltonInTheHeat · 04/05/2025 09:27

I bought some lovely felt decorations from fatface in the sales that I sometimes give to colleagues with a christmas card.

Also have some silver earrings again from the sales which I will give to a friend. Plus some plastic toys that were half price from tesco which will go to various great nieces and nephews. (I have 14 - soon to be 16- great nieces and nephews and the cost in the past few years has become prohibitive as the 'suggested spend' is £20 each.... aaaargh!!!!)

That;'s a brilliant present!

@hattie43 sorry not really driving lessons. It's a one day early driving experience for 13-17 year old's it's €95 for the day. They get to drive a car and learn how to park, reverse that kind of thing. My ds is mad to learn how to drive.

Is this in the uk?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/05/2025 10:28

Young Driver Training and Kids Driving Lessons, Available UK Wide

This is the one my DC did . Probably similar

Katieweasel · 04/05/2025 10:40

Nothing bought but Christmas Day meal booked at a fabulous local pub. I am so excited about not cooking this year.

Openmouthinsertfood · 04/05/2025 20:19

I ordered yesterday, and recieved today, a Switch for a relative. They didn't have the game in stock I wanted so I'll hopefully get that later on in the year. I think it's oled?

Scout2016 · 04/05/2025 21:19

In sales - 4 pack box sparkly socks from Seasalt, gemstone bracelet from Carrie Elspeth, kids clothes from Boden

From makers on a Facebook sale some things for stockings/ homemade crackers.

I have a list of book ideas for people in my draft emails (including books for me.) Nearer Christmas I start an ideas one for not book presents and just edit as necessary. That way it's always on me, as long as I have my phone with me.

edinburghoreo · 04/05/2025 21:25

Helllloooo I feel like I have found my tribe!

Love reading these updates. Can I ask - does makeup / perfume / toiletries last unopened or is it better to leave that as late as possible? Part of me thinks surely it is just sitting for months on end in a warehouse etc but not sure.
