Anyone else sad that Christmas is over for another year?

Sept-Dec is possibly my favourite time of year.

I absolutely love Christmas and everything about it. The whole of December feels magical.

My dc are getting older and I think we've possibly had the last year of Santa. We might just get away with one more year.

The absolute joy of the dc opening their presents, I wish I could bottle it.

The years seem to be going faster and faster. I wish I could repeat last week and do it all again. Anyone else?

I like the fact Jan & Feb are quiet, they are my reset months where I’m healthier, save, hibernate somewhat.

I do try to think like that too.

You start celebrating Christmas in September??

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/12/2024 19:53

Nope.
Christmas as a parent of teens who expect a lot and give a little is hard, particularly with one who plays in a brass band and has had a punishing schedule of concerts ! "Twixtmas" is my favourite but, when it's all over. I'm back to work tommorow evening and quite looking forward to it (will be working nights for a week).

Whatanidiot123 · 30/12/2024 19:53

I love Christmas but I also love looking forward to it.

The sheer gluttony of the season gets to me after a while. I’m looking forward to getting back to my personal trainer, intermittent fasting and to not having chocolate, mince pies and cheese all constantly available.

Holiday planning is my next focus!

No. I had a terrible one. Controlling mother being mean and DM arguing with DH. Utterly horrid. To such an extent that I normally love leftover turkey, but I can't face it as it reminds me of Christmas day. Which probably sounds overly dramatic!!

I've gone from loving Christmas more than most children to feeling horribly sad about the whole thing.

Sorry for the glum tone.

I want my festive cheer back. It's too sad to think all the sparkle has gone.

Next year, I hope, will be brighter.

Sorry to hear that. I can totally understand not wanting the Turkey if you had a horrid Christmas.

People who love Christmas and who say it's still going, we have new year still, hurrah are those that get a good break from work.
I don't. It's just another week for me.
Roll on spring.

I used to work in healthcare and didn't set any time off for Christmas. I worked every other Christmas day. It's still a 12 day period from 25th Dec to 12th night.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/12/2024 19:59

I love Christmas , my DC are adults (still live at home) so it's different but still lovely .
We ( DH,DD,DS and me) can plan things .
Presents , days out , food .

No trying to find the perfect toy and keep it secret and hidden and hope they still want this by Christmas .
I go shopping with DD and spend time in London or Bluewater .
We do go to the theatre , cinema , see the lights .

I love the decorations but with 2 cats we don't have a tree . There's LED candles , garlands , wreaths .

Yes we spend money but we saved and planned .
We had a few days away in December and I;m working some of the two weeks of Christmas/New Year .

I need to do a declutter , (I did the Christmas Clean-a-Long which really helped )
Once the decorations are put away it's quite restful but I do miss them.

My Mum was never bothered by Christmas , she always made us know how much of a faff she found it ( even though she didn't put up decorations and if anyone walked through the kitchen they were basically cooking !) Family friend guest or I did the dinner and cooked cakes /biscuits/pies .
She said "My favourite day is Boxing Day when it's all over " and "I wish I could go to sleep and wake up after New Year"
Basically saying "I cannot be arsed

Christmas runs until 6th January here. We're back to work before then but it's lovely coming home to the lights and tree, still feels special.

I have my birthday in the Autumn and I just live Autumn generally. Halloween, Bonfire night,

Christmas decs go up in December and then I start feeling Christmasy.

I just love it and the childhood magic has never left 🤷‍♀️

Yes,I have been a lot more sad about it ending this year,I don’t know why either.

Twinklybeam · 30/12/2024 20:00

It’s still Christmas in my house!

KorneliaKnapp · 30/12/2024 20:02

So happy Christmas I nearly over. Can’t wait to the neighbour take the lights down as my road looks like there has been a major incident with all the blue lights .

MissMarplesNiece · 30/12/2024 20:04

"I'm sad that all the lights will come down soon, that's my favourite thing about Christmas."

I love to see the lights that people put up on their houses and in their gardens. This year I've got some really pretty fairy lights in my bedroom window and I was thinking tonight that maybe I'll leave them up for a bit longer after 12th Night.

I love Christmas and will be very sad when it's over for another year. Its been lovely having DH home for 2 weeks, visiting people and seeing all their lovely Christmas decorations, listening to Christmas carols which I love, and eating all those special treat foods that DH and I don't buy at other times of the year.

Cynic17 · 30/12/2024 20:06

God no, I'm thrilled. December is the darkest most miserable month of the year- I wish we could just skip it.
Always a relief to get to January, lighter days and start planning fun things for the year.

catsbookschaos · 30/12/2024 20:08

I like Christmas but I always like the shift and change in seasons, so I’m really looking forward to January now.

SneakyLilNameChange · 30/12/2024 20:10

I know what you mean, I love Christmas but tbh I’m ready to get rid of the decs and start fresh for Jan now! I’ve worked all around Christmas as well this year so haven’t had a proper break- you wouldn’t think from all the ‘what day is it? Twixmas!’ Social media posts that there’s a lot of normal working days around this period 🤣
I actually love Jan as I feel ready to be healthy after the excess of Christmas and it’s my DCs birthday so I really try to make it special for them. But I am sad it’s over- kids were perfect perfect age this year for Christmas and still believe but no tantrums of difficult behaviour.

Rainbow1901 · 30/12/2024 20:14

Enjoying the chill out time!! DSS left today after a weeks' stay so now can do what I want, watch what I want on TV, snack, read my kindle or just do nothing and enjoy the peace and quiet for next few days. No school or nursery pick ups to do - what's not to enjoy!? My house is cosy, quiet and christmassy!!

Proteinbananas · 30/12/2024 20:19

I'm sad it's over. I'm back at work this week and while we still have the Decs up and some christmassy food to get through, it definitely feels like the best bits are done with.

The rest of winter just feels like a bit of a slog after Christmas.

frozendaisy · 30/12/2024 20:40

We are still in our Christmas swing.
H has the whole two weeks off this year so at present he is watching a football being chased around, I am reading winter murder mystery
I have a white wine because "the champagne that's left is for tomorrow" apparently. (We could buy more........) I love champagne it's an expensive desire which is probably a good thing.

I am in no rush to pack away Christmas.

And as usually happens I will be ready for routine to return come weekend.

Theperenniallaunderess · 30/12/2024 20:46

I’m really sad it’s coming to an end. It’s been the best Christmas ever. On maternity leave so I’ve not had work killing the festive feeling, and it’s been so great having DH off work for 2 weeks and spending time all together.

ObieJoyful · 30/12/2024 20:47

I genuinely dislike Christmas- I’ll be glad when it’s all done with.

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 30/12/2024 20:49

No l am always glad when it is over for another year.

I love the dull and calmness of January!

Berlinlover · 30/12/2024 20:50

How is Christmas over on 30 December? We still have New Years yet.

I agree with this, but think the enjoyment is more like the Christmas break, rather than Christmas itself. The Christmas break is nice and relaxing. Christmas itself - less so.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 30/12/2024 20:58

Yeah I'm sad too, love the Christmas period, going to miss all the decorations and the happy feeling in everyone.
Trying to keep focusing on upcoming holidays and some time in the beer garden with great friends. I find January and February the hardest.
