We have been given tons of gifts from work customers and friends/family that we just won't eat or drink. Things like liquer filled chocolates, tin of Roses, biscuits etc. What does everyone do with bit like this? Food bank?

@fuzzychic you got jumped on for your initial daft comment and then you explained, fair enough. Your further comments are getting worse and I now think you were being snidey in the first place. Maybe leave it now ?

I tagged you in response to the suggestion that because food bank volunteers are “affluent” they wouldn’t want the donated chocolates themselves.

One of the most pernicious bits of misinformation about food banks is the old “Oh but the staff help themselves to the good stuff” / “my hairdresser’s auntie’s daughter drives a BMW but gets a food parcel every week because her mam volunteers” etc. We don’t help ourselves, as you know, not because we can afford our own Cadbury’s but would otherwise, but because when people donate food to food banks they want to be secure in the knowledge that jt is going to people who need it.

Thanks for the clarification- as I said I volunteer for 2- we certainly are not fighting over someone's left over Christmas hamper after they have taken all the good bits out!

At the risk of incurring wrath by asking...would homeless charities want alcohol? I suppose it depends on their user base but I don't think any charities would want anything to do with alcohol really. And yes...I know homeless people can have alcohol.

Yes. Lots are wet or have both wet and dry clients.

Good quality alcohol sometimes goes into the fundraising raffles etc or they go with the Christmas sit down meals etc etc Or birthday gifts for regulars

Just bin it, then you don’t have to piss about handing it out different places.

Please don't just bin. You can donate in the supermarket trollies while doing your next shop! It's not hard to do, and would be very much appreciated by Foodbank users!

There's also the psychological impact of being given a chocolate santa in February and being told it's a "treat"

Our users have so much more shit going on in their lives, this wouldn't even register.

Honestly, it sounds like you should do a volunteer stint at a charity/foodbank/rescue org to get out of your pampered mindset and realise what life is actually like for people on the edge of society. I'm not trying to be mean, you just sound so unrealistic.

Olio app.

I have given up with that app. I’ve never ever had anyone respond and I live in London so I don’t know where people are using it,

I gave all the non alcoholic food gifts to my DM’s nursing home and asked if either the staff or residents would like any of them.
