Is anyone else suffering?
I love the Christmas hype so much, I love all the shows like strictly and I'm a celeb and this year was even more special as it was my turn to have my two sons wake up with me on Xmas day and not my exH.
Xmas morning was so lovely, but then the boys crashed (tired and probably overwhelmed) and then they had to go to their dads after an intense afternoon!

I just feel very..... urgh today. Christmas just comes and goes so quickly. It's like Xmas eve is full on Christmas, and then two days later it's like a distant memory!

I'm aware I need to get a grip 🙈 Is anyone else feeling a bit bluergh today?

Christmas has been coming since at least the beginning of December and it’s not over, yet. Just chill; that’s the real meaning of Christmas

TwinkleLights24 · 27/12/2024 17:39

It’s still Christmas in our house just more relaxed and without the extended family.

BettyBardMacDonald · 27/12/2024 17:40

Yes, I get depressed. Back to work next Thursday and already dreading it.

ReadyforSpringNow · 27/12/2024 17:44

Yes me...l love the build up.
Shopping.. seeing Christmas lights..
Putting my tree up etc.
But my blues came early on Christmas eve. .. l spent Christmas day / boxing day with daughters and Grandkids..
Been out today shopping with one of them. Had lunch out. But now I'm at hers because l didn't want to be alone at home.
It's foggy.. it's miserable and it can be so lonely.

shellyleppard · 27/12/2024 17:45

We call it the post Christmas blues. Can you do something just for you if your sons are at their dads x

CandyCane457 · 27/12/2024 18:05

I’m with you OP. I’m a proper Autumn/Christmas girl and from September-December I’m in my element. I love all the pumpkin spice, pumpkin candles, falling leaves, Gilmore Girls, Halloween… then moving into Christmas mode, I just absolutely love it, especially the anticipation and the build up. I always find this bit really
hard as well, entering a dull and boring January, with all the lovely festive bits over.

I'm exactly the same! Such an autumn/christmas kind of person. I love all the things you mentioned too!
I do love spring when it arrives, and I enjoy the summer... but I absolutely love the end of the year!

I don't know if I can bare all of the posts about January diets and thinking about going back to work.... it's just so depressing!

My boys are home now and they both wanted a day at home which has probably made my post Xmas blues more prominent as not have any fresh air or change of scenery etc. the weather here has been absolutely GRIM too.

It's tough isn't it though?... I'll try and plan a nice day tomorrow to pick myself back up!

I honestly start to get Xmas blues come Xmas Eve , I know it's nearly all over and I hate that oi feel that way but like you I love the build up and I'm literally on a high for the whole month of Dec

SugarCookieMonster · 27/12/2024 19:32

I get this, love Autumn/Christmas but absolutely hate Jan/Feb.

I try to plan fun activities like family movie /takeaway nights. Then for wet and dull weekends when we have no money, Lego building, board games, video games etc. I also like to keep eating Christmas treat foods into January. I can’t be thinking about healthy eating when I’m already sad!

notlisteningwithmother · 27/12/2024 21:20

Another Autumn / Christmas person here @CandyCane457 !
I've started another thread asking what we're all doing over the next few days. Some nice ideas but also a reminder that relaxing at home with games, films and general chill time is an attractive option.
We're returning home from a rather subdued Christmas with in-laws and I want to recapture some of the happy mood from the days before we left. Whether that's at home or on trips out doesn't matter. Christmas doesn't end here till twelfth night and Epiphany so we have plenty of time?

ChristmasIsComing2024 · 27/12/2024 21:24

My partner is back at work today/tonight and it feels weird not having him here even though he was only off for 3 days 🤷‍♀️ I’m still eating buffet food and watching tv with ds watching videos on his tablet and eating Pringles though 😅

VillageFete · 27/12/2024 21:29

I understand this. Come 27th it can be such a comedown.

Keep the Christmas magic alive. It’s officially still the Christmas season until Jan 6th!

I’m currently watching the Office Christmas special, eating party food and drinking fizz. I have a Christmas candle lit and the lights are all twinkling.

I plan to keep watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas music and eating, drinking and being merry for a few days yet!

CandyCane457 · 27/12/2024 21:34

@autumngirl714 @notlisteningwithmother love the solidarity!

I agree it’s all about thinking of what nice things we can do- I’m off for another week which is great, boyfriend will be back at work next week but I’m going to make some plans to catch up with other friends for brunch, maybe book a massage!

BuzzYourGirlfriendWoof · 28/12/2024 07:13

I am exactly the same, OP. There is a running joke in my family that I get depressed after the Winter Solstice as I know the light evenings are returning (I love the long, dark, cosy winter nights). Like you, I do enjoy the other seasons when they arrive, but there’s nothing like this time of year. I hate taking the decorations down because they look so beautiful.

Weirdly, I feel less down this year, but I think it’s because we’re busy the next few days.

frozendaisy · 28/12/2024 09:36

I like these days.

Time to enjoy gifts.
Easy food.
Odd bottle of champagne opened here and there.

I have a Christmas jigsaw on the go, Saturday paper, coffee, radio.

Starting to reflect on where we were last Christmas, what happened this year, where we are now, where we want to be next year.

I like January. I find it cleansing. All the trees are bare you can see much more sky, social life slows, food is hot but simple, it's the start of small changes that hopefully stick. Don't get me wrong I am happy to keep Christmas going until the 5th, but I don't mind January.

It's finding contentment in the quiet. We are quite good at that. Solo and together. And right now we can do it with additional pretty fairy lights strung about which makes it just a little better.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 28/12/2024 12:21

I feel you @autumngirl714 This is an annual thing for me getting the blues around this time. It feels worse this year as I've been ill for two weeks and finally getting better now the build up is all over. I really am trying to focus on this week between and enjoy new year but it is so annoying. I prep and plan and look forward to Oct-Dec and feel like I've been had this year more so than usual.

Yes, it's real. All those months of thinking about the last few days and now "ugh". Not sure what to do with myself so did some hoovering etc.

ReadyforSpringNow · 28/12/2024 21:45

Bugger it.. we are booking a week in the Canaries for middle of January.

Frontroomroomjungle · 28/12/2024 21:52

Another autumn/winter person, love the build up and always feel flat from Boxing Day onwards. I've got a birthday in January so I should cheer up really.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 29/12/2024 09:54

I've started planning for next Christmas with making notes and reflecting on what went well this year. Making notes of when to start certain things to space it out better. It's lifting my mood a bit.

However I really need advice on how to change my mindset to enjoy this year whatever the season or month it is. I can't just keep looking forward to next Christmas in the hope it'll be different. I know it's not healthy but not sure how to change my mindset.

frozendaisy · 29/12/2024 10:21

@PumpkinSpicedTea what do you look forward to about Christmas? And try and incorporate more of that throughout the year.

We loved the panto (still do) and as the kids grew up we took them to other live theatre shows. Children's short things first, then comedy, magicians now anything we fancy. We have Murder on the Orient Express booked for early next year. But take them to our small local, bigger localish and city theatres all year round.

Or if it's the decorations or lights revamp your permanent lighting. We have sets of fairy lights that just don't come down.

Or the sense of community look at local get togethers. We now volunteer at our local woods.

Or the food. We have a breadmaker to help cut out UPF and make simple, yet flavoursome meals a lot.

You are right you shouldn't live one Christmas to the next.

Starting feeding your body and mind well all year. Read, use housework as exercise, plant your garden to create an escape oasis, use music to change your mood, feed yourself well, book things to look forward to.

And I can't get into the "I'm an autumn person". Late summer/early autumn are my favourite times of year but I like other months.

Our eldest is going GCSEs this summer and it's a battle to get him to focus on revision enough. But I need to. Everyday I am back to school every evening now for 6 months. I don't want to do it, it's going to be frustrating. But it doesn't help anyone thinking like that. So I am going to learn a language along side him, cook whilst he's at the table, discuss characters from plays, decipher poems, work out chemical reactions and calculate trigonometry. I can think of a thousand other things I would rather do but I love him and he needs me.

So don't sweat the stuff you have to do and make small changes here and there to bring the joy of Christmas into your life all year round.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 29/12/2024 10:28

@frozendaisy what a lovely, kind and thoughtful reply! Thank you so much. I'm going to grab my journal and have a think using your points as prompts. Thank you.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 29/12/2024 10:29

Also @frozendaisy that sounds like a lovely way to stay connected with your son over the busy and what can be a stressful time with the revision. I wish you and your son good luck.

TheaBrandt · 29/12/2024 10:32

Lovely thread. I agree op but also with the pro January poster. Love all the months except Feb- March. Those are tough.

I am painting a rose tinted picture!
There will be much "yes it's a dreadful poem you don't have to like it you just have to analyse it ONCE in writing in exam speak that's it, we all have to do things we don't like baby and it's just a poem you wait until you start work". (They have part time jobs but it's delivering to quite pretty houses so it's a walk they get paid for basically)
