Cooking the Turkey Crown on Christmas Eve

Has anyone else successfully done this?
It’s a Turkey Crown.

How do I reheat some of it on the day?

Take this with a pinch, as I’m a vegetarian of 30 years, but my grandma always did this and would carve onto slices on the day and reheat quickly in the oven in the day in a foil covered dish with a bit of gravy to stop it drying out. I think heating up the whole thing would take too long.

I wouldn't bother, it doesn't need much effort on the day. I cook mine to finish about 90 mins before I want to eat, take it out, wrap well in foil and tea towels and leave it, it stays warm. You could reheat it in gravy as pp said but I think that's more effort in terms of labour and space.

Depending on the size I may need to because of oven space.
Option 2 is up at crack of dawn and cook it early.

I only need to reheat some of it on Christmas Day - enough for 3 people.

Reheat in gravy, either in the oven as described or in a big saucepan (my mum used to do this) I prefer it cooked on the day and the quicker cooking time is part of the reason I get a crown.
I would rather pre roast the veggies and microwave them if I was desperate for oven space but I find there is plenty of time for them to cook while the turkey is resting - I always rest the meat wrappEd in tinfoil and a towel for as long as it roasted.

Yes you can carve and reheat in oven in gravy but that will still take oven space. A crown won’t take long to cook. I cook a large turkey in 2.5 hrs then wrap in foil and it’s still piping hot up to a couple of hours later when the potatoes and everything g else are ready.

To those saying don’t bother and it won’t take long, there’s a reason I’m asking. I already have a large Turkey in the main oven on Christmas Day so I’m trying to simplify things.

OK, however the point that the meat (both the crown and the whole turkey) need to rest allows for time to cook the trimmings - both ovens will be free for at least an hour or two after the meat is cooked but not ready to eat.

Have been doing it for years. This year we have goose and turkey, no way I would get them both in the oven together!

Op it always taste better freshly cooked. Follow the Jamie Oliver method, I do it every year and it works fabulously.

cook it whenever you wish on the day, then take it out, keep it covered in foil then wrap it in a heavy bath towel, sit in on the side for two or 3 hours, whatever you need, I use two towels.

it is still piping hot when you uncover it, but importantly it’s rested, and very very juicy due to it.

Oliver doesn’t recommend this due to people having oven issues etc, but as the best way to cook and rest a turkey and get it tasting the best, and he’s right.

so if yoh can find a way to do that, I would. Turkey reheated with gravy on is fine, but it’s not great let’s be honest.

The other way op, which I’d do, is cook the big turkey first, cover it up with some heavy towels, it will retain its heat much longer as it’s much bigger, leave it on the side, then do the crown as it takes much less time. Set an alarm, if you’re not got an oven to come on automatically and have it all prepared the night before, so you literally shove it in the oven and go back to bed.

We always do this too, it stays warm and moist as it's been sat in its juices then the oven is free for everything else

I do this every year, I don't even reheat it, just take it out the fridge to come to room temp/take the chill off and cover it in gravy.

Because those same 3 people are staying so I will be serving it cold on Boxing Day and other days - sandwiches etc

I do know about the wrapping and resting for hours etc. and have done this every year. It’s just more complicated with 2 Turkeys and different trimmings etc

How long are you going to keep serving it. If it’s just leftovers, then cook it on Boxing Day?

edit and cooking it in Xmas eve does nt help qith the work top space.

Personally I wouldn't serve up turkey leftovers for days after Christmas to guests staying with me. I get you want to make sure there is enough for everyone to have a generous portion at Christmas dinner and I love a turkey sandwich on Christmas Day night but if the leftovers are not finished by Boxing Day lunch then it all gets a bit samey.
