When the fucking fuck am I meant to wrap the presents

Toddler DSs wake up at the arse crack of dawn (and sometimes through the night).

Tween DD still rattling around til nearly 11pm every night regardless of how early I send her up.

They're with me all day long. Single parent. Small house. Work full time. Am I meant to just wrap through the night or something? I'm shattered!

Aarrghhhh. Just needed a rant really. Feeling inwardly very unfestive towards poor DD right now as I listen to her traipse past my room to the toilet for the 50 millionth time tonight.

Well it's 2am Christmas day here, and I just finished wrapping and putting all the presents out! So tired.
But I thought of this thread 😆Good luck to all you late night wrappers tonight!

Tittat50 · 24/12/2024 15:03

I recommend those draw string bags for future presents! Absolutely brilliant time saver.

StarMincePies · 24/12/2024 15:05

Not helpful now, but I take a day of annual leave not to shop but to wrap. Only way to do it. Even once they are all at school, some bugger gets a hideous bug meaning they are at home the last week of school.

Hope that you have a lovely Christmas with your children *Cryingatthegym^.

You are truly super mum.

I saw this and thought of you OP. Let's raise a glass to all the parents, especially the lone ones:

I used to do mine at midnight on Christmas Eve.

Sleepytiredyawn · 24/12/2024 19:05

It’s not easy is it. I managed in one afternoon to wrap everything and was in agony.

I’ve decided next year I’m going to wrap as I buy and take them to work to do it on my break time. Whether I actually will or not is another story but it seems like an idea.

HevenlyMeS · 24/12/2024 19:24

What does DS & DD abbreviate please?

Namechangeobviously2024 · 24/12/2024 19:41

Dear Son and Dear Daughter

(DS can be Dear Sister but not on this occasion)

Santa is not real 🥺

laraitopbanana · 24/12/2024 21:16

It is a terrible habit. We always do the night before.

Whhhaaatttt?

trelawney59 · 24/12/2024 21:23

Single parent here - I resorted to taking them to work and wrapping them in my lunch break. Hiding them in the car boot…

Cryingatthegym · 24/12/2024 21:23

Thank you @Trumpetoftheswan2 and @goingdownfighting Xmas Smile I took advice from this thread and managed to get the last of the wrapping done this afternoon by telling DD I needed half an hour upstairs to have a 'very important phone call with Santa - wink wink' and left her downstairs looking after her brothers.

She's also helped me put the boys' scooters together this evening and written them a note from Santa thanking them for the mince pie & carrots. Turns out she quite likes being Santa's little helper!

Now we're snuggled up watching a film with a box of quality street and a bucks fizz (for me) - merry Christmas everyone Xmas SmileWine

I am a bit late to the thread but next year lock yourself in the bathroom!

Have a great Christmas 😊

Doubledenim305 · 25/12/2024 00:09

Why leave it to the last minute? Surely kids are school or nursery during the day some days. Maybe don't leave all the wrapping till the holidays when they are off?

SereneCapybara · 25/12/2024 00:10

Luddite26 · 22/12/2024 22:37

Don't bother wrapping. Waste of money waste of your precious time and wasteful for the environment. I hate wrapping paper and all this fuss.

So do I. It's the only Christmas job I loathe. Takes bloody hours, waste of paper, ripped off in seconds.

I'm a single parent with 3 kids and hectic full time job. I've also had a LOT to deal with in the last few months as I said in a previous post. Thanks for being a judgy fucker though Xmas Grin merry Christmas x

I hope you are having a great Christmas Day

One for next year… do a child swap with a friend? I only have one so it’s easier but I would have a few friends round a couple of days before Christmas so all the mum’s could wrap and at least one would return the favour

asrl78 · 25/12/2024 10:44

I am lucky in that I live alone and only had five presents to wrap but I can appreciate the stress when you have 101 other things to do. After work on the 23rd I was starting to make a coffee and walnut cake for my sister and the electric hand mixer failed catastrophically, so after smashing it into pieces on the floor in sheer bl**dy frustration I quickly went to the local Tesco supermarket for a replacement. Got there to find they had shut the mezzanine floor where the household gadgets are located. No choice but to beat the batter by hand which is tough on the arm with the all-in-one method and takes far longer (because the butter, even when soft, takes a lot of encouragement to mix). The present wrapping got finished off past 11pm (after I had decorated the cake) and packing for my 240 mile trip to stay with family had to wait for the next morning. I hope the cake turned out well.
