When the fucking fuck am I meant to wrap the presents

Toddler DSs wake up at the arse crack of dawn (and sometimes through the night).

Tween DD still rattling around til nearly 11pm every night regardless of how early I send her up.

They're with me all day long. Single parent. Small house. Work full time. Am I meant to just wrap through the night or something? I'm shattered!

Aarrghhhh. Just needed a rant really. Feeling inwardly very unfestive towards poor DD right now as I listen to her traipse past my room to the toilet for the 50 millionth time tonight.

Yeah, I'm doing mine tomorrow night 🌙 I've told my older one he's not allowed downstairs though as I'm wrapping. He will just stay out the way.

NorthernGirlie · 22/12/2024 22:36

Dd is old enough for you to say "bugger off to bed so I can wrap or your presents will be in bin bags"

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 22/12/2024 22:37

Yeah just tell DD you're wrapping presents so she has to stay upstairs!

leia24 · 22/12/2024 22:37

You close your bedroom door im the evening and tell daughter not to disturb you or she won't get a single present.
From one single mum to another, this is the only way christmas has occurred in our house since mine was old enough to know santa wasn't real 🤣

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/12/2024 22:37

Santa doesn’t come if you’re not in bed.

Luddite26 · 22/12/2024 22:37

Don't bother wrapping. Waste of money waste of your precious time and wasteful for the environment. I hate wrapping paper and all this fuss.

Aaaah see I wish she was, but she's still young enough that I'm trying to preserve a bit of the magic for her.

Can you get toddler to "help" you wrap the tween's presents first thing in the morning, and get the tween to help you wrap the toddler's after bed time?

comedycentral · 22/12/2024 22:38

Get a lock on your bedroom door then, super cheap and a great solution!

SatinHeart · 22/12/2024 22:38

Can you bribe DD to entertain DSs for a couple of hours? Or stick her in one room with a movie in the evening while you wrap elsewhere?

creamsnugjumper · 22/12/2024 22:38

Could you just use gift bags, save your time.

WaitingforStrike · 22/12/2024 22:38

I wish they made festive bin bags. And I wish I'd never started with Santa wrapping his presents.

This

DILLEYDALLEY · 22/12/2024 22:39

Can't you just do it in your bedroom?

SatsumaCat · 22/12/2024 22:39

It may be a bit late now and it does cost a bit of money to start with, but it you buy a load of fabric present bags (or gift bags would do the job too) it'll be a hell of a lot quicker and easier. I also reuse the gift tags every year, get ones you can tie on instead of sellotape.

Tkmaxx has some lovely cloth gift sacks in different sizes

HereForTheFreeLunch · 22/12/2024 22:40

My tweens were always roped into elf duty.

crumblingschools · 22/12/2024 22:41

Santa sack or gift bags

Shimmyshimmyshimmy · 22/12/2024 22:41

Tween is old enough to be told to leave you alone whilst you wrap. You do her presents (and others) then. They get the tween to help you wrap the little one’s presents when she’s in bed

Wiaa · 22/12/2024 22:42

I feel your pain, my mil is having my boys at 9am tomorrow so we can wrap theirs. I must give credit to my boys (5&8) they really helped me to wrap all the adults presents today though

This is genius.

I wish I could just tell DD to keep out of my way, but she's at that funny age where she still sort of believes. But not so little that she's asleep before 10pm! The toddlers both firmly believe in Santa.

My bedroom is next door to hers and she sleeps with the door wide open, so I worry that she'd hear me if I crack on while she's awake. Plus she's up and down like a yoyo.

I've resigned myself to a couple of very late nights. And hopefully next year DD will be old enough to be told to bugger off/help me wrap her brother's presents.

Can you ask your tween to help and wrap your toddler’s gifts for you? Bring the toddler into your room when they wake early and stick a cartoon on a tablet/phone and wrap the tween’s stuff while they presumably are still in bed.

What's the issue with her hearing you though? I mean surely she's old enough to know that the presents need to be wrapped?

crumblingschools · 22/12/2024 22:46

Does she think all presents are from Santa, surely she is old enough to know at least some presents come from you?

Hurdlin · 22/12/2024 22:48

Can't you tell her you need to wrap presents from you? And then do the Santa presents too?
