Stocking gifts. Wrapped or not?

We are a childfree house. We have teens coming for Xmas and I'm making them a stocking. Chocs, notebooks, key rings, lip balms, tester sized toiletries etc. I can't remember if stocking gifts are wrapped or not?
Help!

Wrapped. I still wrap dp's and the dc (19 and 24) now!

RealHousewivesOfTaunton · 20/12/2024 07:53

Wrapped, with different paper for each recipient so they don't get mixed up. The wrapping is significantly more slapdash than the tree presents though.

Behindthethymes · 20/12/2024 07:54

When they were small, I stored coloured tissue (corresponding to each dc) in the same box as the clove pomanders so that the stockings would smell of Christmas and the North Pole.

But one year we had a problem with damp on the attic and I had to throw away the tissue stash and the pomanders.

Eenameenadeeka · 20/12/2024 07:54

Not wrapped here. I wouldn't have the time for that! Enough wrapping the tree gifts

TeamPolin · 20/12/2024 08:08

The stocking IS the wrapping. Never wrapped in our house.

SilverDoe · 20/12/2024 08:10

My kids, especially my DD, love a stocking, it's their favourite part!

I have big knitted stretchy stockings, so they do hold a few proper gifts. Gifts are wrapped, but sweet treats are not as they are nice to see visually and add variety - most Christmassy edible treats come in super cute packaging anyway.

There is usually an unwrapped soft toy in our stockings too. I picked up from MN the idea of an unwrapped soft toy poking out the top, which I loved. This year my boys each have one of those soft toys with long arms that velcro together; I'm planning on wrapping it round the outside of the stocking 😊

SilverDoe · 20/12/2024 08:12

Oh I forgot to say, last year I used a mix of proper wrapping paper and colourful tissue paper. The tissue paper was great for things like fidget items or Schleich figures. It can be sealed with Christmassy stickers too 😇

No, stop wasting paper! Honestly the impact of the paper and dyes are horrendous. The gift can be in the stocking or reusable gift bag. Being teens they are likely to be environmentally responsible.

Three kids - not wrapped have enough to wrap! 🎄

@CometCupidDonnerBlitzen We use rugby socks. An empty one to hang, the other one stuffed and ready to swap once child is asleep. I agree, so much more magical than the shop ones, we used my dad's old army socks when we were kids.

I'm a wrapper too. Tissue paper then a Christmas sticker label to hold the wrapping together. Nice and easy. I also have a supply of different coloured bags (from Amazon, striped sweet bags and some Christmas designs). These make wrapping really easy. Again I stick down with a label. If you have lots of children put the name on the label in case things get muddled up.

I started using the striped sweet bags a few years ago after a Mumsnet recommendation and it’s been a revelation. The cost less than £5 for 100 on Amazon and usually come in 4 different colours so I can use a separate colour for each child. I just fold the top over so no need for tape either. As others have said unwrapping is half the fun and also gives you some much needed extra time.

Ours were always wrapped - I think DM hoped it would satisfy our desire to unwrap gifts for an hour or so while they woke up/had a cup of tea! I plan to wrap DD's stocking gifts when she's old enough for one, but I do find wrapping quite therapeutic 😂

On a separate note, I always seem to think there's a lot of confusion over 'stockings' on MN. Some people call the sack of presents under the tree/in the living room the stocking, whereas others (and I) call the sock shaped stocking left on the bed/door the stocking. I wonder if it's regional, like bread roll/barm cake etc Xmas Grin and now I've typed stocking so much that I'm not even sure it's a real word any more Xmas Grin

poppymango · 20/12/2024 08:34

Absolutely not wrapped! So many little bits, it would take forever - plus, the stocking sort of is the wrapping. Wrapped presents are only for under the tree.

Might I suggest a Terry's chocolate orange to go in the toe of each stocking 🙂 the best pre-breakfast Christmas snack.

worriedgal · 20/12/2024 08:49

Always wrapped here.
A few years ago I discovered Christmas decorated paper bags in different sizes and these have been life changing for stockings.
Pop item in bag and seal the one end with tape and it's done.
I can do all the stockings in less time than it would take to do one previously!

PantherchameleonsocksforChristmas · 20/12/2024 09:20

Ours were always wrapped as kids. I loved that - half of the excitement is opening the paper to find out what it is!

TwinkleLights24 · 20/12/2024 09:22

I wrap everything. Stocking and Christmas Eve box items are all wrapped too.

Except for chocolate.

Tootiredmummyof3 · 20/12/2024 09:30

We always do. Going back a few years we didn't have much money so only a few stocking fillers and to make it look more I wrapped them up.
Ever since then I've wrapped them up.

Pumpkittenspice · 20/12/2024 09:48

Always wrapped!

NotVeryFunny · 20/12/2024 10:16

We wrapped everything except the orange, just in tissue paper though which is quicker.

brokenwand · 20/12/2024 10:26

some wrapped & some not - don't wrap choc coins, little items like kazoo's, yoyo's etc but wrap most other bits.

Always also stick a magazine or comic in them, keeps them occupied if they have a bored moment

caringcarer · 20/12/2024 11:13

EdithStourton · 19/12/2024 09:35

Wrapped, apart from things like chocolate coins.
Unwrapping is half the fun.

This is what I do. Plus the cats love playing with the wrapping paper screwed up into balls.

caringcarer · 20/12/2024 11:18

I always wrap each DC gifts with a different colour paper so if something falls out I know immediately who it belongs too. They are adults now but DD always gets gold. DS1 red and DS2 green. They know their colour.

brokenwand · 20/12/2024 11:30

@caringcarer great idea - save all that tag writing

rainbowsparkle28 · 20/12/2024 11:32

Definitely wrapped.

One of my tasks each year is to find similar but not the same paper for their Santa presents and then a personalised sticker from Etsy. This year was from The Works because they had the same character patterns but in red, pink and blue. DD1 is red, DD2 is pink and DS is blue. Their presents from us are wrapped in paper based on their interests - DD1 is Stitch, DD2 Spiderman and DS is dinosaurs.

aintnospringchicken · 20/12/2024 16:32

I never wrap gifts for stockings.Too much of a faff when you've got 5 adults and 2 kids to make for.
