And did you stay within your intended budget?

I just finished ordering the gifts for my (just turned) 3 year old and is came in at about £250. This was pretty much bang on what I intended, and this also includes the stocking and that bastard Christmas Eve box that I wish I never started.

Of course the amounts will vary wildly in the thread, I’m just curious really!

£300 per child. More than I wanted to 🙈 as I usually say around £100 stocking presents from Santa and between £100-£150 from mum and dad. Finding the £ doesn’t stretch as much as they get older. When they were little I could get lovely 2nd hand toys and they wouldn’t know the difference!

Bectoria2006 · 10/12/2024 09:48

I’ve spent about £250 on DS (which is our usual budget) and £450 on DD. She needs a new phone as hers is ancient and not working properly but has a visual impairment so needs a plus or pro so she can see the text which are alot more expensive. It evens out as one year I spent more buying my DS an Xbox.

Adult SSs I’ve spent about £100 each and will put £50 in a card for them as they are both working.

Candy24 · 10/12/2024 09:50

Trying not to think about with 10 kids. JUST SOOOOO MUCH

Monkeybutt1 · 10/12/2024 09:52

DS is 12 and wanted some expensive clothes so we have him £300 for that, he's spent £200 and is keeping the other £100 for the sales. We've also got him a few stocking bits, probably another £40. On my niece and nephew we have spent about £80 each which is what we spend on all other family members.

Tdcp · 10/12/2024 09:54

About £550 but DD 10 is getting a ps5 this year. I'm pregnant and have had HG plus we've bought a house (moving in in Jan) so it's been a big upheaval for her. She's such a good kid and really deserves it.

ReignOfError · 10/12/2024 09:56

Mine are both in their 40s. I spend about £20 - 25 on each of them and my daughters-in-law, so £100 max.

Then I bankrupt myself spoiling many grandchildren and great-nephews and nieces.

I8toys · 10/12/2024 09:58

I don't want to be that person but and it wasn't my idea - they've got new iphones at £1,000 plus each. It was a gift my husband wanted to give them to upgrade their phones. I've spent a couple of hundred on the usual pants, socks, clothes and aftershave. I miss the days of the Fisher Price toys and Thomas the Tank Engine trains.

johnworf · 10/12/2024 10:02

£25 on grown up children and £25 on their partners. Youngest child is teenager and has asked for 2 things but each are expensive: goth boots and more storage for their pc so spent about £300 in total on these.

Grandchildren have budget of £50 each and instructions of 'no more toys' as they have so many! So have bought vouchers/books/smellies/pjs.

snowmanshoes · 10/12/2024 10:02

Money just isn’t going far this year at all - my dd18 I’ve spent £230 on 3 items and it won’t be much else! (Hoodie/perfume/bracelet)
I’ve picked up some makeup bits and brushes that she uses, in recent months when offers were on thank god and I’ll get her a couple of books, chocs and a Lego flowers set as she still likes something to do on the night or Boxing Day lol - she’s at Uni so I like to get her some bits and bobs that are a stretch for her otherwise

dd14 (just after Christmas) a similar amount or maybe a bit less but has got much more with her money!

Blarn · 10/12/2024 10:02

Probably too much but it's coming down each year. We went overboard for 2020 as everything was miserable, the following year was just as ridiculous. This year much better. We only spend what we can afford though and never get into debt over Christmas. Probably spent at least a couple of hundred each but there have been a few quite expensive items in that.

GetItInYerBag · 10/12/2024 10:02

Less than £50 but she's only 13 months old and will get lots of presents from Grandparents as she's the first grandchild!

inquisitiveinga · 10/12/2024 10:02

Around £700 on DS, he's 7 and it's alot more than I'd have liked but the big present wasn't my idea. Around £50 on DD, she's 8 months old so didn't really feel the need!

Afolnerd · 10/12/2024 10:03

Budget is £150 per child and I have pretty much stuck to that.
that includes stocking and homemade advent calendar.
4 kids 2 with birthdays Xmas week!
Plus 3 sets of grandparents so they really don’t need a huge amount of stuff.

Iwishiwasagiraffe · 10/12/2024 10:05

Around £250 on dd9 and probably £350 on ds12. DS12 clothes are so much more expensive than dds because he’s in adult sizes now

Twoshoesnewshoes · 10/12/2024 10:10

Around £50 per adult DC plus £20 ish on stockings.
£30 voucher for my niece, the other two got a Lego advent calendar to share.
that’s it - done

okydokethen · 10/12/2024 10:15

With December activities included and presents it will work out about £450 each (DD 13 and DS10)

Clearinguptheclutter · 10/12/2024 10:15

About £400 on one, somewhat less on the other (one dc basically just wants one expensive thing, other dc had a list and added up is still less than the other despite the fact that his “pile” will look better)

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 10/12/2024 10:17

It will be approx £250 when l have got the last item - she is 13 and getting more expensive!

destiel00 · 10/12/2024 10:24

Older dc here (20 and 16)
About £400 each. This includes the bloody stocking gifts they love so much 🙄
Only really buy for dc, dh and my dn

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 10/12/2024 10:25

About £300 on DD (6) and £100 on DS (1). Wouldn’t normally spend that much on DD but she needs a new bike. Could hardly think of anything for DS as he only really cares about vehicles and there’s only so many cars you can buy!

EtA... they ate 11&13, and just didn't need it want much this year. However they do want to go on expensive school trips... so happy for those in lieu of expensive presents.

Similar here. I have 15 and 12 yo and we've also spent about £100 each. There's not a lot they want or need. We discussed gifts a few years ago and they said they'd much rather get things as the need arises throughout the year than have loads of things just for birthdays and Christmas. They're very keen on only having necessities and not a load of random tat (which my relatives supply despite asking them to be a bit more minimalist, and which stresses my children out not knowing what to do with it all or where to store it). I am pleasantly surprised by how mature and thoughtful they are about belongings.

TENSsion · 10/12/2024 10:27

About £300 each on presents. They’re 7, 6 and 3.

DowntonFlabbie · 10/12/2024 10:27

About €400 per kid. No big ticket items this year

ClementinePancakes · 10/12/2024 10:28

I haven’t bought the presents yet 🫣

Mine are teens. I know what I am getting each of them for their main present, each is around £70-80, I’m buying them today. Then I will get a couple of extras for under the tree - probably clothes, - maybe another £50?

Stockings are mainly chocolate, sweets, toiletries, stationery, socks etc but nicer versions than I would usually get. I reckon they will come to around £50-60 each.

bugaboo218 · 10/12/2024 10:30

About £500 on each of the older 2 - adult DD and teen DD and £250 each on primary aged child and pre-schooler.

Festive experiences approx another £500
