And did you stay within your intended budget?

I just finished ordering the gifts for my (just turned) 3 year old and is came in at about £250. This was pretty much bang on what I intended, and this also includes the stocking and that bastard Christmas Eve box that I wish I never started.

Of course the amounts will vary wildly in the thread, I’m just curious really!

£900 on dc13 & £600 on dc9.

Hugmorecats · 10/12/2024 07:41

Will probably spend around £50 on each kid (aged 8 and 4). They haven’t really asked for anything - apart from the youngest wants a giant unicorn 😁House is small so haven’t got room for tons of new toys

RareMaker · 10/12/2024 07:42

Mine haven't really asked for anything and 2 have birthdays near Christmas.

I've spent about 125 on each child. Age 8,12, 19 and 20.

KnickerlessFlannel · 10/12/2024 07:43

I'd take a guess at £300 ish each but I but throughout the year, and just take a few bits for their birthdays out of the pile, so don't keep strictly to an exact amount. There's also a biggish age gap so try and make piles look even rather than spending exactly the same.

DappledThings · 10/12/2024 07:43

Don't know, DH has bought everything and I haven't checked. Maybe about £200 each once all the little stocking bits are added in. We don't do big piles, just a stocking and 1-2 proper presents.

Littleme2023 · 10/12/2024 07:44

I’ve spent about £1600 on my 4. I think it could have very easily gone over the 2k mark but managed to get their main presents at a great price in the Black Friday sales and I started in August so made the most of some earlier sales.

waggytaildog · 10/12/2024 07:46

£500 each - DS10 & DD3

We can afford it so it's fine

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/12/2024 07:49

just under £200 each but mine are 4&7, I do understand teens are more expensive- however near on 1k on a teenager is insane to me!

ChanelBoucle · 10/12/2024 07:50

About £300 each inc stockings for 19 & 20 year old.

doodleschnoodle · 10/12/2024 07:54

About £250-300 each, which is what I budget. Would be a fair chunk less for 2yo but she's getting a new scooter which takes up about half that cost already.

Babynamedrama · 10/12/2024 07:56

£300 on 1.5 year old. My parents still buy for us like we get ‘Santa’ and they’ve spent at least £4000 this year between the 4 of us but they always have done big Christmases

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 10/12/2024 08:04

About £350 - more than usual but it includes theatre a ticket.

TeamPolin · 10/12/2024 08:18

About £300 for DS give or take a tenner. I was hoping to keep it to £250 but prices have gone up so much in the past few years.

It's refreshing to see a thread with people being honest. Normally on Mumsnet there's a competitive frugalism and everyone claiming they are gifting their kids a wooden clothes peg and a lump of coal 😂

Ha ha ha ha ha.

I was waiting for the “I’ve spent £12.18 on my child”

StrawberryWater · 10/12/2024 08:23

About £600 in total as we're getting him a laptop.

He's also getting a new desk and gaming chair but they were free through my work (I product test).

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 10/12/2024 09:21

Adult DC £500 each including Christmas Eve pyjamas and stockings.
Teen DC £1300 including a new laptop, adventure, Christmas Eve and stockings.

We are lucky that we can afford this without going into debt.

CandiedPrincess · 10/12/2024 09:23

About £250 each. It really doesn't go far these days 😓especially if you have teenagers.

SchoolDilemma17 · 10/12/2024 09:23

Older child £200 ish but includes one big present and some smaller ones (books, games, clothes)
younger child £100ish, is a toddler and didn’t have any wishes and we have lots of toys and bike etc from older child

toycat · 10/12/2024 09:25

One child age 8, £120 - birthday and Xmas. Vinted has been great for sourcing most things

speedling · 10/12/2024 09:31

About 300 on my 20yo DS. Only three things, no stocking!

boobot1 · 10/12/2024 09:34

About 500 ds is 9

HalfBloodPrincess · 10/12/2024 09:36

I have 4 children. I save £150 per month for Christmas in a locked Monzo jar but this year I’ve got everything they asked for and some surprises, and still have £800 left!

Haha I thought the same. There's always someone who only spends £20 including stocking. Meanwhile, in the real world...

TickingAlongNicely · 10/12/2024 09:41

Its around £100 per child.

EtA... they ate 11&13, and just didn't need it want much this year. However they do want to go on expensive school trips... so happy for those in lieu of expensive presents.
