Hi - I need to make a dessert for Xmas dinner that doesn't contain the following things that people won't eat-

Cream
Peel or raisins
Meringue
Nuts
Alcohol

🤦🏻‍♀️ any suggestions or links to recipes you'd recommend??

Many thanks!

I'd uninvite them OP and make a booze soaked trifle.

You have no idea how appealing this idea is 😂

Are the reasons due to allergies/dietary reasons, or just that they don't like that item?

Not sure tbh - I've got a load of people coming and those are the things they won't or can't eat.

I'll probably do 2 options so there should be something for everyone!

I would make this in advance and stick in your freezer, take out an hour before eating to thaw a little to cut and serve. Even though this contains cream I have found those that would not pour cream on a pud find this refreshingly delicious. https://www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/frozen-lemon-souffle-in-a-chocolate-shell/
Big advantage is you can make anytime that suits in advance, and freeze till needed, and the only thing to do on the day is take it out of the freezer in advance of trying to slice and eat it. Thus it really cuts down on stuff that has to be done on the day.

Definitely sticky toffee pudding.

Lifestooshort71 · 07/12/2024 12:54

This thread is why I usually make 2 puds (trifle/choc cheesecake etc) and a fresh fruit salad! Eat one or go without....

Tillow4ever · 07/12/2024 13:23

Personally I'd always go for a few dessert options with guests!

Some suggestions;

-Jelly (ostensibly for the kids, but some adults would absolutely go for this)
-Sponge pudding with or without custard
-Tesco Salted Caramel tarts (these are AMAZING - I discovered them a couple of years back and they are a family favourite now)
-Chocolate gateaux
-I think I saw Iceland have some amazing looking Xmas desserts - I'm hoping to get one of them! This looks lush to me:

Can you have a buffet style - fresh fruit salad, ice cream, cake, jelly (I'm a big kid 😋), cheese, crackers.

Folk can then sort themselves out.

AyrshireTryer · 07/12/2024 13:30

artic roll.

crumblingschools · 07/12/2024 13:32

If you have a load of people coming can they bring their own?

Iliketulips · 07/12/2024 14:08

Could you just serve whatever your own family eat and have a Vienetta in the freezer as a back up. Nice of you to think of others though, my SIL always serves desserts with cream which I don't like and just find it too rich as well.

Pear and star anise tart tatine

tealandteal · 07/12/2024 14:28

Chocolate self saucing pudding

festivefoodie · 07/12/2024 14:31

Self-saucing chocolate pudding
Sticky toffee pudding
Chocolate brownies
Chocolate tart with a biscuit base (anything chocolate is lovely with raspberries/cherries - either as a compote or coulis or fresh)

MrsLeonFarrell · 07/12/2024 14:38

I have had great success with a Christmassy jelly (red and green). I have sprinkles and ice cream and basically all the stuff you wanted on it when you were a kid. The adults wouldn't stop eating it and it's a light dessert after the heavy main course.

TheFormidableMrsC · 07/12/2024 14:39

I'm the only one who loves Xmas pudding so I buy an individual one for me and everybody else has sticky toffee pudding or apple crumble/pie/strudel and custard.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/12/2024 14:43

I do this chocolate cherry pudding as one of my Christmas ones. You can leave the brandy out if necessary.

That went well. 🙄🤣

My mum used to make chocolate mousse and we'd have Christmas pudding on boxing day.

LikeABat · 07/12/2024 18:50

Nigella also has a cranberry upside down cake that's quite Christmassy. We usually opt for brownies though.

Bibbitybobbity70 · 07/12/2024 18:56

I've done Nigellas chocolate mousse cake at Xmas for similarly fussy eaters, it's very rich & suitably decandant to make it a special occasion dessert.

sesquipedalian · 07/12/2024 18:57

Panna cotta - v easy and you can serve with whatever fruit you fancy - fresh or stewed.

TinselToed · 07/12/2024 19:05

So many lovely ideas here, thanks!

I would do 2 or 3 options, it’s impossible to please anyone.
Another vote for sticky toffee pudding?
Maybe something chocolaty (gateau)?
Cirtus tart?
