Toys gone down in price - would you return?

I’ve purchased a number of figure type toys for my children for Christmas from Smyths toys, purchased them end of September, mid October and early November so all within the extended Christmas returns period on their website.

Each Individual toy has now been reduced by £5 each so in total the difference is around £50, I have the receipts, would you return and buy again?

I really want to but can’t decide if it’s just too cheeky?

Yes I would.

LochNessy · 23/11/2024 19:05

It is cheeky, for one £5 I wouldn’t bother but for £50 back I would.

BearBuggy · 23/11/2024 19:06

I would. Have done so in similar circs

StillAtTheRestaurant · 23/11/2024 19:07

I couldn't be bothered. Similar has happened to me with Lego but you just have to suck it up. What if they sell out before you can re-buy them?

Everybodysaycheese · 23/11/2024 19:08

I did exactly this yesterday and saved £20 across two items. I don't think it's cheeky at all - you have receipts and are within the return window. I did return at the returns desk and rebuy again at a different till if that would make you more comfortable.

frecklejuice · 23/11/2024 19:08

Yes definitely, I've just reordered something that has gone down by nearly half and I'm returning the one I bought at the original price.

MuggleMe · 23/11/2024 19:09

It's not about being cheeky it's about if you can be bothered. But I'd be wanting to buy the new ones before returning the originals in case they're not available.

MrsWhites · 23/11/2024 19:14

Thanks everyone, I am actually nipping to a retail park tomorrow with a Smyths for something else so can go then and I’ve checked that they do have them in stock.

Like others have said, if it was £5 I wouldn’t bother but let’s be honest, £50 is £50!

They are also offering £5 off if you spend £50, £10 for £100 at the moment, although I think it ends tomorrow.

And you can do click and collect if you're worried about them going out of stock.

Saz12 · 23/11/2024 19:27

Definitely!!! I absolutely would. It's not some service-driven local independent, it's a big business.

cheddercherry · 23/11/2024 19:33

I’ve just done the same for some games - combined difference of £45 so I took them back to store and ordered them online.

Even better, will save an additional £5 then! Thanks for that, was going to go tomorrow anyway.

To be on the safe side I would buy the cut-price ones first then return the full-price ones.

I would probably make DH do one transaction and me the other while pretending not to know eachother. But that would be just to reduce my awkwardness.

Needanewname42 · 24/11/2024 07:23

Yes I'd return and rebuy the same ones. I'd just do it in one transaction do you honestly think the person behind the till cares?

EachpeachpearplumIspytomthumb · 24/11/2024 07:47

Of course it’s not cheeky! I would.

halloumidippers · 24/11/2024 07:48

Yes. Bring all the stuff with you just in case but they will usually just let you scan the receipt and refund the money, without having to go round and get everything again. If they refuse, ask for a refund and then go round and buy everything again.......

Dragonsandcats · 24/11/2024 07:48

I would- but as pp said, I’d buy first and then return just in case!

Fireworknight · 24/11/2024 07:51

Are you sure you can return the September and October ones? Often the Christmas returns don’t kick in until November

update- ignore me. Just saw it was Smythsand read their return policy. September is early for Christmas returns.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 24/11/2024 07:52

Yep

YeahWellWhyNot · 24/11/2024 07:53

Yes I would, and have many times. I don't have copious amounts of spare money so if ila n opportunity is there in front of me to save it, absolutely I will.

Timetochangenow · 24/11/2024 07:54

I did exactly that in the week, 3 toys gone down by £22 total. Reordered to home and returned in store so I wasn’t embarrassed by it.

Toooldtopretend · 24/11/2024 07:57

I don’t think it’s cheeky at all if the products are unused. Years ago Gap used to have a policy that they would refund the difference if an item you’d bought went down in price within 30 days, you didn’t even have to have the item with you, just the receipt.

You return them and buy them back again in two transactions...

HeadinSand81 · 24/11/2024 07:59

I'd return them then just buy them there and then tbh. No shame in it at all. £50 is a lot of money.

John Lewis have the same policy.
8 years ago DH & I had bought early. Then came Black Friday, things reduced by £100, I was heavily pregnant and got intouch they refunded the difference remotely, I didn't even need to go into the shop.
