Toys gone down in price - would you return?

I’ve purchased a number of figure type toys for my children for Christmas from Smyths toys, purchased them end of September, mid October and early November so all within the extended Christmas returns period on their website.

Each Individual toy has now been reduced by £5 each so in total the difference is around £50, I have the receipts, would you return and buy again?

I really want to but can’t decide if it’s just too cheeky?

I’ve just done exactly the same with Lego down by £35. £35 is £35!

I did it once, years ago. Bought 3 Sylvanian Family houses/vehicles at a % off, 3 or 4 days later they went onto a 3 for 2 office. The price difference was significant so I bought the 'new' ones and returned the original.

If it was only a couple of £ for one item I wouldn't bother but for a £50 difference I would!

BoobyDazzler · 24/11/2024 08:24

Yes I would!

Thanks everyone, seems unanimous that it’s not too cheeky 😂

Will go today!

John Lewis have the same policy.
8 years ago DH & I had bought early. Then came Black Friday, things reduced by £100, I was heavily pregnant and got intouch they refunded the difference remotely, I didn't even need to go into the shop.

i’d forgotten that but I think John Lewis have stopped doing that in the last couple of years unfortunately. It was always a great bonus!

EmotionalSupportPotato · 24/11/2024 09:30

Next year don't buy them so early. You were happy to buy them at that price so you could get it sorted early not so you could gamble on the price

MrsWhites · 24/11/2024 14:03

I took them back and was honest about bringing them back to buy them again, the guy on the desk was more than happy to do it, even commented that he would do the same so all sorted!

@EmotionalSupportPotato I bought them early to make sure I had the toys my children wanted for Christmas, that doesn’t mean it’s not even better to get them 25% cheaper for the hassle of 5 min in a shop. Given the extended Christmas returns period I was well within my rights to do so.

I’ve done this. I bought something and then pre Christmas it was half off. If the item is unused and within the return period they should refund.

Normallynumb · 24/11/2024 16:01

I'm glad you've done it. It's normal to question but £50 is a lot of money and Smyths is close buy
I remember buying the same top 3 times years ago in M&S as it reduced in price

Alwayswonderedwhy · 24/11/2024 16:04

Yes, I've done this in the past when clothes have been reduced just after I've bought them. Not cheeky at all if the item hasn't been used.
I'd reorder online first to make sure you still get them. Then return the original items.

Surgarblossom · 24/11/2024 16:20

I have already done this and saved £20 by doing so.

Oreyt · 24/11/2024 17:07

Oh god no. I'd not be happy but over the years things I've bought are often on sale. It's just what happens.
