Crowdpleasing Christmas desserts

Hi everyone.

If you had to serve 3 desserts for Christmas Day, and it was a group of 15+ including children and older people, what would you serve to please everyone?

What would you ideally like?

And what would you be disappointed to see if it was the only option?

Just for a bit of fun. No allergies etc to make it easy

Ice cream, cream, custard, mince pies and Christmas cake will be there already 🎄

Hopefully it is. We've just got married and had our honeymoon in Italy so I'm leaning Italian for the desserts. Going to try panettone for the first time (why is it so expensive though? Lol)

What alcohol do you find best for tiramisu? I couldn't find marsala wine so I used Kahlua :)

I use a amaretto liqueur and then reduce the sugar by a tablespoon as its quite sweet.
But I've also used dark rum in its place before. This tends to be stronger so I reduce the amount by a tablespoon (for some reason I work in tablespoons for it!)

Chocolate banoffi is the crowd pleaser in our house, the kids won't let me get away with not making it.

Also lemon fridge cake is divine.

Can you share the recipes please?

Mango thanks

Christmas pudding
Chocolate Yule log
Some sort of pavlova or cheesecake

Would be disappointed if there was only Christmas pudding

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 23/11/2024 20:56

I love the word "boozy" at Christmas, hate it at other times.
We only did one but I feel mean now, this year I'd like to attempt a trifle. And perhaps yule log.

This year, I'm intending to do brandy baskets with yoghurt and lemon curd, and a few raspberries. Will swap the yoghurt and lemon curd for ice cream for fussy kids. Prep time should be about 2 minutes, if I can find the bloody brandy baskets for sale anywhere!

I've just checked Waitrose, Tesco, Ocado, Fenwick and Harrods and I can't see any. I searched for just Brandy in case they were called something more pretentious like brandy nests lol

I hope you can find some

Edit: found these if this is any good? https://thebrandysnapcompany.co.uk/product/brandy-snap-baskets/ £3 delivery charge

Would be disappointed to see only a traditional Christmas pudding. Yuck.
I'm not interested in anything other than Christmas pudding. I will be bringing my own to PIL's as normal. It's my only contribution to any Christmas catering regardless of who is catering.

When "we" have hosted (inverted commas because it's all DH, I do fuck all) he may have offered an alternative but I haven't noticed.

I think I have seen brandy snaps in b @m or a similar shop. Also not too hard to make homemade ones.

Both sound nice, thank you for the tips

I do a homemade Christmas pudding, trifle, pavlova every year.

mrssunshinexxx · 24/11/2024 04:10

Lemon tart
Profiteroles
Cheesecake

Aliflowers · 24/11/2024 05:19

Every year without fail my dessert menu is

  • a trifle - DH and my brother request this but some of the kids also like a spoonful
  • A pavlova of some sort (last year was lemon curd and raspberries) which myself, my mam and SIL like
  • A bakewell tart (not the most standard of christmas desserts but my son requests this) I buy a ready made base so just make the filling

We also buy a choc fudge cake as this seems to be what the kids want and I buy a couple of different tubs of Haagen Daaz/Ben and Jerrys and some chocolate sauce

Its very much put them all on the table and people pick and choose bits. I also always buy a box of macarons and we nibble on those too. Anything not eaten Xmas day is polished off the next day. I abhor Xmas cake/pudding so if that was the only choice Id be dessertless

I've seen a recipe for them but don't want to spend Xmas Eve making something fiddly- are they really easy? I've looked in B & M, Home Bargains, Iceland, Tesco and Lidl....I can't think where else might have them!

Christmas pudding

Caramel Apple Crumble - just peeled, chopped Granny Smiths with a jar of salted caramel sauce stirred through and topped with your favourite variation on crumble topping - I add oats, flaked almond and spices to mine

And this chocolate torte which is fabulous. You can make it with flavoured chocolate if you want something a bit different (I’ve used dark chocolate oranges before, chilli is nice for adventurous adults). It’s also freezes really well so you can make in advance.
This year I’m serving it with cherries in kirsch and white chocolate ice cream.

Lidl had some deluxe chocolate and salted caramel profiteroles in their fridge middle of lidl a few weeks ago and my god! I only wish they brought them back as they were delightful. And perfect.
I like a toffee and caramel frozen roulade thing for nostalgic reasons.
