Crowdpleasing Christmas desserts

Hi everyone.

If you had to serve 3 desserts for Christmas Day, and it was a group of 15+ including children and older people, what would you serve to please everyone?

What would you ideally like?

And what would you be disappointed to see if it was the only option?

Just for a bit of fun. No allergies etc to make it easy

Ice cream, cream, custard, mince pies and Christmas cake will be there already 🎄

Chocolate banoffi is the crowd pleaser in our house, the kids won't let me get away with not making it.

Also lemon fridge cake is divine.

Nigella’s Holiday Hotcake. It’s a bit like a festive sticky toffee pudding - one of those self saucing puddings that you dump a load of sugar on top of the cake mix, pour over boiling water and cross your fingers. It turns out amazingly considering how it looks when you put it in the oven! I always use double the spices that she puts in her recipe for an extra Christmassy boost, and serve with whipped cream and ice cream.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 23/11/2024 16:11

Oh and I make a double sized recipe too, as everyone loves it, which is unusual in our house

Whatwouldnanado · 23/11/2024 16:21

Fruit salad
Cheeseboard
Chocolate mousse
Lemon cheese cake or the Jamaican one above sounds amazing

WinterFoxes · 23/11/2024 16:21

I do:
Christmas pudding with cream, ice cream or custard
Homemade chocolate or toffee or white chocolate log
Panettone pudding

Then two trifles on Boxing Day - sherry for the adults and booze free for the kids. If there were small children around I'd do trifle for Christmas Day too as they seem to love it.

I usually make a millionaire cheesecake, key lime pie and a black forest trifle (brownies, boozy cherries and chocolate custard).

I like the sound of your black forest trifle. Might try that this year

AdaColeman · 23/11/2024 16:29

Black Forest trifle
Pear Belle Hélène
Orange slices in brandy
are favourites here!

Yule Log (M&S and Tesco do really nice ones)
Trifle
Cheesecake

I usually get myself an individual Christmas cake as I'm the only one who eats it.

IDontLikePinaColadas · 23/11/2024 16:45

I did a mincemeat cheesecake and a brown sugar pavlova with poached pears a couple of years ago - delicious!

shockeditellyou · 23/11/2024 16:52

Trifle, Xmas pud and profiteroles with choc/toffee/raspberry sauce are our go tos.

Werp · 23/11/2024 16:56

Tipsy log. Easy to make, alcoholic, and delicious.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 23/11/2024 17:01

I always find a fruit salad goes down particularly well on Xmas Day. Lots of kiwi and pomegranate so it looks nice and festive as well as mango, blueberries, raspberries and then some apple and pear to bulk it out a bit

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 23/11/2024 17:04

Christmas pudding - yuck
trifle - yuck but only if it has sponge or alcohol in it
cheesecake - yuck
anything with alcohol- yuck
not a fan of rich indulgent chocolate deserts

im personally more of a fruity light desert person, pavlova, Elton mess, roulade, fruit pie, crumble with ice cream or custard, though I prefer the filling to the pastry and crumble mix.

It’s only DH and the kids Christmas so we do meringue nests, mixed fruit and berries, cream, caramel and chocolate sauces, ice cream and a variety of Christmas sprinkles

if I was catering for others I’d add a chocolate log & cheese cake as I know the people I would cater for would eat them. Maybe som profiteroles.

Cheese board is a definite too.

whatisforteamum · 23/11/2024 17:11

Salted caramel cheesecake with honey combe and caramel sauce.
You can buy or make the honeycombe

IdaPrentice · 23/11/2024 17:14

In recent years I've made:
sticky toffee pudding
profiteroles
chocolate mousse
I love lemon tart but fussy DC doesn't

NetDesMamans1 · 23/11/2024 17:14

Nigella's Tiramisu is properly good, and light on effort.

Scottishskifun · 23/11/2024 17:20

Anxioustealady · 23/11/2024 15:45

I'm contemplating making a pistachio tiramisu this year. I made a traditional one previously and it was very popular, and surprisingly easy to make

I do an amaretto one (can be non alcohol by using amaretto syrup) and finish with some crushed amaretti biscuits ontop.

Not tried a pistachio one though that also sounds delicious.

BeyondMyWits · 23/11/2024 17:34

M&S fresh cream filled chocolate Swiss roll. ( in the freezer already)

Lemon tart... M&S or Waitrose

Xmas pud - Tesco

Chopped fruit is put out in the afternoon... kids will eat it if it is prepped

Hopefully it is. We've just got married and had our honeymoon in Italy so I'm leaning Italian for the desserts. Going to try panettone for the first time (why is it so expensive though? Lol)

What alcohol do you find best for tiramisu? I couldn't find marsala wine so I used Kahlua :)

Gosh you might not need anything else! An apple crumble or pie? Yule log cake?

It's just hypothetical don't worry. My husband and I can't agree. He's a traditionalist whereas I think just have whatever you like :) it's hard to make everyone happy without buying 6 desserts

Black Forest Trifle sounds really good

Londonmummy66 · 23/11/2024 18:26

Really good vanilla ice cream with hot cranberry sauce (and the option of affogato instead)

Something citrussy - lemon posset or orange slices in brandy

Eton mess as its really quick to assemble

COOK winter pudding (summer pudding with winter berries) - sometimes make my own using sliced panettone and stewed apple and blackberry

mumtotwo11 · 23/11/2024 18:27

I normally have a Baileys (or possibly chocolate orange) cheesecake
A lemon tart and either crumble (usually apple has have loads from he garden) or maybe sticky toffee pud.

nadine90 · 23/11/2024 18:38

Lemon meringue pie
Something hot and chocolatey like gooey brownies with cream or ice cream
Treacle sponge with custard

When I was growing up, we always had vienetta!

CandyCane457 · 23/11/2024 18:39

Some sort of fruit crumble with custard and I’m happy!

Although to be honest… I’m also happy with alllll the chocolates. Mince pie and a few tubs of heros or roses and I’m sorted!
