I'm hosting Christmas Eve this year. We tend to do a really nice cheeseboard. Any suggestions? My favourites are Tor, Smoking Ember, wild garlic Yarg and a mildish Stilton.

Manchego with truffle or black garlic. Bliss!

I love a smoked cheddar.

Goat's Gouda is lovely.

Gosh, I'd totally forgotten about goats gouda since having children and no longer shopping in Waitrose! Bloody lovely stuff, that is.

OrangeBlossom28 · 19/11/2024 21:33

@WeavingShed I had a baked Savoie in Embrun this summer. Well it was amazing!
Following this post with cheese filled eyes!
I love Red Fox Red Leicester, Boursin with figs and nuts (not sure where to get this in UK), Comte and a Wensleydale.

Anyone got a good website for cheese ordering? We have a Booths but it's quite small and I don't recognise a lot of these (perhaps they aren't Northern enough)

PinkyBlueMe · 19/11/2024 21:35

Waitrose Kaltbach no 1, love it!

Catches cheese and takes a big bite and offers Blacksticks Blue

Vignotte

Thanks OP. Starving now… And we don’t have any crackers in the house.

Goldpanther · 19/11/2024 22:04

Dolcelatte
Goes really well with the biggest salami platter ever 😁

And I like a nice gingery chutney.
I did find a chilli and pineapple chutney last year that was fab with a nice strong cheddar.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 19/11/2024 22:07

Comte
Cambozola
Blacksticks blue
A smoked cheese
A strong regional English cheese

Autumnweddingguest · 19/11/2024 22:23

Comté - not the supermarket stuff which is okay but the stuff from a real cheese shop, which is out of this world.

Mild blue Stilton (though I fancy trying the unpasturised Stichelton mentioned above instead.

Quartz cheddar

Pie de L'angloys

A garlic and herb cheese - Usually Boursin or roulé but I love the look of that Green Thunder linked above.

Good variety of crackers, pickles, chutneys and grapes.

Autumnweddingguest · 19/11/2024 22:25

This thread is brilliant. So many good ideas. I am not even the cheese lover in our family - everyone else is. But I want to try so many of these.

saraclara · 19/11/2024 22:26

If you can find Gaperon anywhere in the UK (without it costing a day's wages) it's the best cheese on the world. I will take no arguments.

Isitfridayyetsophie · 19/11/2024 22:28

I can’t believe no one has mentioned Godminster cheese? (Have I missed it?) It’s cheddar but the most delicious cheddar ever, no cheese board is complete without it!

Ineffable23 · 19/11/2024 22:32

Another black bomber fan here, but they also make a whisky infused one which is utterly fabulous - amber must. I have also had a Lancashire bomb which was another amazing wax wrapped cheese.

I also like a triple creme cheese if I can get it - something like a delice de Bourgogne.

For a terrifying but amazing cheese, picos de Europa blue is great. It's so blue though, you have to eat it fast or it just turns grey. You need some serious cheese lovers to justify this one.

I've had an amazing Gouda with pesto before as well. It's bright green which adds some interest to the cheeseboard.

Stokes chutney is also excellent while you're at it.

Sorry! DH and I had a mini cheeseboard in bed last night. Because why not? It was a seriously indulgent experience.

I also like the Castello pineapple cream cheese. Not everything has to be naice! Tasty is more important.

@drspouse we usually order from White Lake Cheese or

Tor

Tor is a beautifully crafted fresh lactic goat’s cheese formed into a pyramid shape with a firm texture. It has a unique rind and is lightly coated with ash to add a very subtle peppery undertone along with a combination of lemony flavours and a typica...

Delice de Bourgogne, Cremeux de Bourgogne - double cream Brie like gooey fabulousness!

LimeCookie · 19/11/2024 22:40

Oh my god we should all start a club. Hear me out on this one, this year I had goats cheese spread on rose Turkish delight cubes. My good god. It’s the best thing I’ve ever eaten. You’ve also got to try putting some blue cheese in your mince pie, a slice of cheddar on your Christmas cake slice, and you’ve got to try this one too, spread your Gouda on fudge, trust. Me.!!

AdoraBell · 19/11/2024 22:42

Cave aged cheddar and Brie with truffle

AdoraBell · 19/11/2024 22:43

Oops, hit Post to soon. A strong Stilton too

Baron bigod.

My vote too!

celeryleaf · 19/11/2024 22:48

Mont d'or, currently in stock at m&s, its seasonal so grab one while you can. Beautifully creamy, comes circled in leather in the wooden box. We also all love some Port Salut!
