It's all getting thinner and thinner. Has anyone found or know of a source of heavy paper?

Costco?

SnowFrogJelly · 14/11/2024 15:54

Newspaper

NoWordForFluffy · 14/11/2024 15:56

Cox and Cox. Not cheap, but lovely.

Normallynumb · 14/11/2024 17:04

I bought a couple of rolls from Aldi to try
The Kraft style recyclable one with dull patterns. Only £1 at checkout and it's actually a decent thickness

TSnewbie · 14/11/2024 17:06

I'm getting the kraft style paper from Flying Tiger - just be careful as their shiny paper is not the same thick quality.

NewNameNoelle · 14/11/2024 17:08

I buy from John Lewis and prefer the brown paper style with a simple print. It seems stylish, robust and is recyclable (apparently all their paper is)

RobinEllacotStrike · 14/11/2024 17:09

IKEA is always good for wrapping paper etc

Wendolino · 14/11/2024 17:17

My cousin and her daughter are apparently "absolutely disgusted" with M&S this year, as they have "nothing decent in for Christmas" because they couldn't find matching tags and wrapping paper.
I'm just happy if it doesn't tear when you wrap something with corners.

Gymnopedie · 14/11/2024 17:18

Thank you for the ideas. I'm not near a Costco, but the Cox and Cox does look lovely. And not too bad for price as it's 10m rather than the usual 3.

The consensus seems to be the kraft style is better than others, wherever it's from.

That's exactly what prompted the thread. It just did. And the last corner on the parcel too 🙁

@Gymnopedie bloody annoying!

minipie · 14/11/2024 17:29

Kraft is also recyclable whereas lots of other wrapping paper isn’t

shellyleppard · 14/11/2024 17:29

Bargania do some heavy Christmas wrapping paper......think I paid £2 for a roll

RobinEllacotStrike · 14/11/2024 17:42

Gosh are you all wrapping already?
I haven't started the shopping yet ...

Singleandproud · 14/11/2024 17:50

I used brown parcel paper, far cheaper than wrapping and better for the environment and nice and thick. Children can decorate it with potato prints of Christmas trees etc if gifts are for family or it looks good plain with gold / red ribbon.

Attelina · 14/11/2024 18:00

I have used brown wrapping paper for years along with coloured string or tartan ribbon.

SockFluffInTheBath · 14/11/2024 18:05

I bought a brown paper one from Amazon and it lasted 2 years. It was lovely to use. What an old lady thing to say 😅

I find the range offered at dunelm is great lovely patterns and a good thickness. Plus fully recyclable

Justforchristmas · 14/11/2024 18:26

Tk max has some really thick paper. Great designs too.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 14/11/2024 18:30

I do everything in brown parcel paper and embellish it. Kids like to potato print it for the gps. I do twine with holly or other greenery for the others. Looks nice, recyclable and easy to wrap with. I can't be doing with thin crappy paper that rips on corners or the new rolls without plastic where you rip half the roll trying to get the tab off.

Distance and work patterns (theirs) means we will only see one branch of the family at the end of November. Otherwise I wouldn't be this far ahead!

Brown paper with nice ribbon or whatever you have, and if smaller presents for the same person then use the Christmas paper for variation in the pile as wraps easier and looks nice in the ‘pile’. Mix them up.

EveryDayisFriday · 14/11/2024 22:39

Costco here. It's double sided so more choice of patterns, some are quite old fashioned.

Hoplolly · 15/11/2024 11:50

I must be the anomaly as I had the brown paper look that everyone loves.

I've bought in WH Smith in the past and it was pricy, but good quality.
