Tiny token stocking fillers

SleepingJeans · 11/11/2024 07:37

Having hoardes of people this year and according to our family lore everyone gets a visit from FC so all adult guests will get a stocking. With the amount of people it will be expensive. Any ideas for teeny tiny things or.pleasing homemade stuff? Im just doing small ones for the token fun of it so doesnt need to be tonnes.

I'd rather find a local business that I'd like to support and buy everyone something from there eg: a jar of local honey/ packet of locally made fudge or biscuits - at least that way I'm not just giving money to the supermarkets. Then I'd go for a tiny, cheap old fashioned bit of nonsense like a fortune telling fish each or one of those Christmas trees that grows from crystals if they still exist, for a bit of 'tat' that at least has nostalgic value of Christmases past.

Everyone gets a present, but not a load of cheap stuff that they might not use (eg I definitely don't use cheap bath bombs etc, after a very unpleasant and painful experience with some Bayliss and Harding toiletries I was given!).

Ethique has 60% off maybe you could get stuff there?

caringcarer · 12/11/2024 20:45

Mini bottles of alcohol.
Lip balm
Pen
Post it notes in the shape of a cat or dog
Socks
Satsuma
Key ring last year I got my ds one with Ferrari on.
Car air freshener
Mug/shot glass
Box of Maltesers

FinallyHere · 12/11/2024 20:46

L'occitane travel sized almond shower oil
Their petite balm
Chocolate coins and a small tangerine
A colouring on a subject meaningful to them
Cheap set colouring pencils.

hby9628 · 12/11/2024 20:56

Chocolate orange...should take up a decent amount of room
I'd get to primark/home bargains for socks/bathbombs/facemasks
I've seen reasonably priced packs of 3 beers in HB, you could split a couple of those across some of the stockings, small bottles of Prosecco would be good

Thank you
lovely website and a great discount, shame they are closing although I have stocked DD up for her Christmas stocking

A magazine chosen according to each person's tastes/hobbies is good - if you roll it up it will fill the entire "leg" of the stocking.

Zoomo · 12/11/2024 23:09

I don't want to buy landfill items and crap so I'm going for something either edible, drinkable or usable this year. And for main presents the same, or experiences, theatre tickets, mini hampers, vouchers etc

Saz12 · 12/11/2024 23:36

Don't fill it with cheap crap. Few adults actually want a bulk of 99p bath bombs,.Poundland moisturiser, etc., and a stocking full is quite a lot to get through.

But maybe a magazine? Puzzlebook (sudoku, crosswords)? Mindfullness colouring in book with some pens? Small felting type craft kit? Seeds for the garden - thete are loads of suppliers who do houseplant seeds, too. Weeding tools? Bird feeder and feed? Can of premixed cocktail or mini bottle of wine? Sweeties? Herbal tea? Coffee? Playing cards? Buy a jigsaw puzzle and put a big handful in a bag of box into each stocking? Socks, gloves, pants? Hand-wash? Travel mug or insulated bottle?

I'm currently trying to think of stuff for adult home made cracker toys, but REALLY don't want to buy stuff that ends up landfill by Boxing Day. So.. I have one thing to get, not a stocking worth.

BirthdeighParteigh · 12/11/2024 23:46

Agree it would be better to ask everyone to choose a stocking gift and bring e.g. 10x for everyone.

lunar1 · 13/11/2024 06:25

Homemade vanilla sugar is cheap to make and bulky.

Agree with this .
One better more thoughtful gift is so much better than a load of discount store crap .
I buy my friends cards with seeds in the paper so rather than bin the card you plant it . I never understand why people feel the need to bulk out stockings etc with tatt, it's not necessary. If money is tight one thoughtful paperback book and a bar of chocolate would be my preference . Say no to the bathbomb.

noscoobydoodle · 13/11/2024 07:08

I've ordered personalized giant love heart sweets from the swizzles website (thanks to the bargain thread). There's 14 people at ours on Christmas day this year and everyone will get one in their (small) stocking along with a Xmas decoration the kids have made.

Say no to the bath bomb - love this. It should be on a badge.

motherofonegirl · 13/11/2024 07:14

Seed bomb for the garden, nice shower gel, lottery ticket, packet of Christmas tissues, nice soap,

Vatqueenquestion · 13/11/2024 07:20

Bah Humbug

I LOVE A STOCKING

Please get nice, local consumables or seeds or charity donation or homemade edibles and don't be tempted to fill up on plastic/one use (no use) land fill nonsense or "cheap nail polish" or nylon socks. No adult wants this.

Personally I’d prefer a bath bomb or face mask over a crossword book (hate crossword) but maybe I’m not very intelligent😂

Saz12 · 13/11/2024 10:11

I think that's a problem with generic gift ideas lists - I like scented candles, even the cheapest ones out there, but I bet most people would hate them. So I shouldnt have been rude about bath bombs.
Also interesting gardening stuff - I'd like it but for my sister it'd be like giving her dishwasher tablets (ie it's a chore).

I guess it's the "its cheap so I'll buy it" type fillers that seem really wasteful and consumerist to me.

PrimalLass · 13/11/2024 10:14

I'd go for consumables like chocolates or booze.

You weren’t rude at all, don’t worry. I agree, everyone’s got their own tastes -I guess that’s for the buyer to know the individual they’re buying for. I do quite like sudoku though.

I think if you are hosting everyone should bring one small gift for everyone else and pop it in the stockings. It'll be a suprise for all and not such a chore for you.

brilliant idea.

You could do charity shop books - pick things you know people might like.

Packets of flower or veg seeds if people are gardeners?

M&S are doing handbag sized scent atomisers for about £3

Primark have gorgeous soft ankle socks and fluffy midcalf socks for about £2 for two pairs. Amazing value.

A trick I've done before and intend to do this year is buy a packet of shortcrust pastry, shred it through a grater (I use my magimix but could do by hand) and mix with some lightly toasted sesame seeds/poppy seeds/ cumin or caraway seeds/ grated parmesan/ smoky paprika/garlic granules then knead it back together, roll it out and cut it into tiny savoury biscuits. Wrap them in cones of cellophane with ribbons. Konditor sell bags of these for £9 each!!! I reckon I could make six bags or more for half that.

Agree with those saying this. Kids used to buy me bath bombs, I shower not bath and even if I did who wants a bath bomb? Possibly 5-10 ish year old girls

angryformoreadon · 13/11/2024 15:50

Last year someone on here suggested getting everything from charity shops - if they don't like it can resonate.
Was really successful and quite a challenge!!

Bath bombs make Lush very rich indeed. The are alive and well amongst adult women.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/11/2024 18:14

Dear Santa,

Please don’t give me a bath bomb because there are lots of things I’d love for Christmas, but thrush is not one of them.

Please can I have a Lindt reindeer instead?
