Christmas Breakfast Ideas

What does everyone do for breakfast on Christmas morning?

We have a mixture of options to chose from (we have one of these not all of them 😆):

  • Homemade stollen toasted with butter
  • Christmas muffins with cranberries and clementine
  • Christmas pancakes
  • Krispy Kreme Christmas doughnuts
  • Lebkuchen and cups of tea
  • Bacon and egg wraps

We don't have a full roast on Christmas day, so usually want to have something special for breakfast

@Ophy83 Thank you for posting the cinnamon roll recipe, they look amazing!

We usually have smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, soda bread, sour cream and chives on Christmas Day (last year I went mad and bought a tiny tin of caviar, topped the breakfast with that. Not doing it again, it was a one time indulgence!).

Bubble 'n squeak on Boxing/St Stephen's Day. It's the law.

Other days over Christmas we'll have:

Pain au chocolate
Eggs Benedict
Scallops, black pudding and bacon
Cinnamon rolls
A full Irish
Waffles with maple syrup

It's quite a lot of cooking, but I enjoy it - and those around me seem to enjoy eating it, too!

Ooh, the toasted stollen sounds nice. Disappointed you only do one of these: a big breakfast buffet of them all plus fruit sounds delightful.

Pre-kids I did a chocolate and cinnamon bread wreath snowflake thing: looks amazing but very easy, then later on, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, bagels and mimosas for brunch, as Christmas dinner invariably ends up at a random non-mealtime like 3pm. Post-kids (who are at “climb the Christmas tree and set fire to the cat” age) we do… cereal Grin

Do you have a recipe for the wreath please?

Bucks fizz and a selection box - works for us!

DCIGeneHunt · 10/11/2024 09:16

Smoked salmon and scrambled egg on blinis for adults.

Christmas themed pancakes for the kids, although I think I’ve exhausted all possible designs now (Santa, reindeer, snowman etc) and I’m going to have to repeat or get very creative!

Non-alcoholic Buck’s Fizz for all. I finally put a stop to the boozy breakfast after having to suffer pre-dawn wake up calls, a whole day in the kitchen and excitable kids with a raging alcohol headache!

I want to try cinnamon rolls but dd is gluten-free, so I’ll need a few tries to get it right.

I always struggle with breakfast. Because you want something that feels a little nicer than normal, but if you have young DC it's a bit bedlam and much excitement, which doesn't lend itself to prepping and enjoying a nice breakfast.

Also, I don't want loads of mess and a dishwasher load/unload in the kitchen when I'm about to do loads of stuff in the kitchen. Plus, you then feel too stuffed to enjoy a huge meal at 1-2pm.

This year we are pushing main meal back to 4pm. If littlest DC weren't so little it would be 5pm. This should mean we can do a nice breakfast, and get all the stuff washed and ready for the evening meal throughout the day, and be hungry for that meal.

Historically we've done fruit platters and pastries, but it's a bit cold and more of a summer breakfast to me. DD is a fruit bat though. I'd like eggs royale, but it's the kind of thing you need to enjoy, not hurriedly throw down your throat as loads of little voices are shouting for batteries and the like.

I kind of want something fancy and elegant that can be prepped in full the night before, then simply heated in the morning. Does such a thing exist?

Lots of versions online if you google “snowflake cinnamon bread” – it looks amazing but is actually easy. I think I made it with a chocolate and booze filling one year…

Snowflake Cinnamon Bread

Snowflake shaped cinnamon bread that's vegan and easy to make. A delicious and beautiful dessert.

Frozen pastries and bacon rolls here. I think that the former are really underrated and delicious for very little effort plus there’s no calories in food on 25/12.

Smoked salmon and scrambled egg
Pain au chocolat and croissants with the special lychee and rose jam I make for crimbo only
nice fruit salad
those yoghurts in glass jars that have a layer of fruit on the bottom

longtompot · 12/11/2024 08:17

We have smoked salmon on bagels or muffins with either scrambled egg or cream cheese and bucks fizz and coffee
