Christmas Breakfast Ideas

What does everyone do for breakfast on Christmas morning?

We have a mixture of options to chose from (we have one of these not all of them 😆):

  • Homemade stollen toasted with butter
  • Christmas muffins with cranberries and clementine
  • Christmas pancakes
  • Krispy Kreme Christmas doughnuts
  • Lebkuchen and cups of tea
  • Bacon and egg wraps

We don't have a full roast on Christmas day, so usually want to have something special for breakfast

Christmas themed ones.... yummy!

You're a genius.

SussexLass87 · 05/11/2024 12:06

We have frozen pastries from M&S as a treat...whilst they're baking the kids eat the mini variety pack of cereal they got in their stocking.

Years ago, trying to be "fun Mum" I said they could have a bag of crisps for breakfast as well. Now it's become this yearly tradition that they LOVE and they merrily scoff down a bag of Walker's cheese & onion too 😄

Fontainebleau007 · 05/11/2024 12:16

I don't have anything for breakfast, I wait for the big Christmas dinner lol. I'll just have a coffee.
Kids are happy with their usual cereal or egg on toast.

I'm loving reading this thread though, some of it sounds delish! 😋

RosesAndHellebores · 05/11/2024 12:20

Cup of tea and an 8.45 dash to Mass to sides for the 9.30. DH used to give the DC chocolate before leaving at 9.15 :)

Smoked salmon sarnies, champagne and presents at about 11.30!

Tisfortired · 05/11/2024 12:23

We have bacon sandwiches, frozen fresh (is that an oxymoron??) pastries and I chop up some fresh fruit the night before and have Greek yoghurt in.

I get the fancy fresh OJ in for DC and myself and DH will have a freshly brewed coffee, which is more often than not severely needed after a 4am wake up call 🥴

GameOfJones · 05/11/2024 12:25

Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels here too, with a glass of Buck's Fizz.

I like breakfast to be completely different from the rest of the Christmas Day food so nothing sweet as I'll be mainlining Christmas chocolate later on.

Then a huge fry up on Boxing Day morning.

HelenHywater · 05/11/2024 12:27

We always have eggs benedict. I've tried to deviate from this, but "tradition" ...

Lalanbaba · 05/11/2024 13:12

We tend to change every year. It's only 3 of us this year. Last year was bacon and fried egg sandwiches.
This year I was thinking baking croissants stuffed with brie and cranberry.
Will have to do a trial run to test them

Ophy83 · 05/11/2024 15:52

Usually smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and champagne or mimosas.

Occasionally I make overnight cinnamon rolls as well - depending on how organised I am on Christmas Eve and how much fridge space there is! You need to get them put the fridge as soon as you wake up, leave them for an hour or so and then bake for half an hour: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/overnight-cinnamon-rolls/

We often have friends pop in from 9am onwards and I've 4 kids and I will be doing our roast about 2-3 so I do a breakfast buffet, very low fuss.

I make fake bucks fizz for the kiddos (orange juice and lemonade) and hot chocolate in the slow cooker i top with cream (baileys cream for adults if they fancy) and a chocolate coin and candy cane on the side with some snowflake or edible glitter sprinkles. (I use the Christmas baking sprinkles, i get mine from home bargain) and even though i dont drink i do have actual bucks fizz and baileys hot chocolate or coffee or amaretto coffee/mocha available.

Because the roast is our main event i have a selection of pastries, mini pancakes and berries/clementines with nice jams and chocolate spread for the kids.

Adults i do a really easy oven breakfast which is oven cooked streaky bacon, oven cooked sourdough crumpets with melted brie on and a dollop of cranberry sauce and plate them up looking nice.
(I have a Muslim neighbour who pops in and I I'll cook hers under the grill and use turkey bacon so no contamination)

For boxing day I do French toast with brioche, streaky bacon because usually we've loads left over from cooking the turkey, with blueberries and maple syrup before our buffet kicks off.

I did do muffins with hollandaise, smoked salmon and poached egg one year but it didn't feel as festive as I wanted and I felt disappointed 😂

Oh my word! Amazing!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 05/11/2024 18:38

Not much really. Some frozen pastries or yogurt and fruit. Of course chocolate. We cater for older relatives who like to eat earlier than we normally would .

My favourite meal over Christmas Boxing Day bubble and gravy.

Enko · 05/11/2024 18:51

Most of us have smoked salmon I'm scrambled eggs with sourdough bread
Veggie dd2. Has fried mushroom, hummus, avocado, tomato and fried halumi. Stacked prettily

We all love it.

PaganOfTheGoodTimes · 05/11/2024 19:16

We also don't bother with a roast on christmas day so we start with smoked salmon on bagels, mimosas and homemade egg nog!

ILoveGroot · 06/11/2024 07:30

So many lovely ideas, like the sound of brie and cranberry croissants... may have to try out some ideas before Christmas day😁

toasted sandwich of bacon, black pudding and egg with brown sauce cup of tea and a glass of bucks fizz.

LochNessy · 06/11/2024 07:46

We have two ds (and dh!) who are like bottomless pits and need filling up no matter what day it is. I prefer to try and do something savoury as they will eat chocolate etc throughout the day 😂

we usually have one of these options:

homemade sausage (patties) egg and cheese ‘McMuffin’,
bacon and/or sausage sandwiches,
cream cheese and smoked salmon bagels,
croque monsieur,
Cheesy scrambled egg on toast

MinnieMountain · 06/11/2024 07:59

DH’s side of the family like pork pie, beer and pickles.

I’ll probably make cinnamon rolls too.

Rocknrollstar · 06/11/2024 08:13

We have smoked salmon and cream cheese beigels with Buck’s Fizz.

Smoked salmon, or bacon for non fish eaters, bucks fizz or components there of. DS1 has orange juice and smoked salmon whereas DD has bacon and cava.

Then canapés about 12 and dinner around 4

AnnaDelvorkina · 06/11/2024 09:24

We have our Christmas dinner as dinner, on the 24th (and eat the leftovers for lunch on 25th) so it’s quite a late night with plenty of rich foods and usually some wines. So a big or fancy breakfast on the 25th probably isn’t necessary / wouldn’t be much of a hit however this thread has given me the idea to think of a special breakfast for the 24th instead, and / or another random day over the festive period.

Does anyone have any ideas for easy sweet breakfast bakes (bread or pastry or cake) that are festive / a bit spécial, please? Family of chocolate lovers (not white chocolate) who also like fruit but detest cinnamon.

BebbanburgIsMine · 06/11/2024 09:36

It's just me and DD here and we'll just have our usual breakfast, so bowl of Cheerios for me, I eat them dry as I don't eat dairy, or a rowie (Aberdeen specialty) with raspberry jam and apple juice.

DD will just have toast and apple juice.

I can't afford to buy fancy stuff, the cost of Christmas Dinner is enough as it is!

DoublePeonies · 06/11/2024 11:49

As per a PP, overnight cinnamon rolls have been our default Xmas breakfast for a few years now.

DoublePeonies · 06/11/2024 11:52

@AnnaDelvorkina what about home made Danish pastries? You could follow the overnight cinnamon roll idea, and give them do the second prove in the fridge overnight, then cook fresh in the morning.

There is a chocolate middle Danish recipie as well - think it's butter, sugar and cocoa as the centre.
