Ideas for 5 year old DD

RoastPotatoConnoisseur · 03/11/2024 22:18

I am a little stumped what to get my DD for Christmas.
So far we have got her two dressing up dresses (Vinted), some dressing up shoes, a tutu and ballet slippers, playdough and a puzzle.
She already has a Tonie box so could get her some tonies but I am really after a ‘wow’ toy that she can play with over and over again. She seems to have outgrown her toy kitchen.
Magnetic tiles and marble run have been a big hit. Occasionally she plays with Lego but not much.
I have tried sitting down with her to look through the smyths toys magazine and she just says she wants everything which doesn’t help.

Any recommendations for toys that can be used over and over again and encourage imaginative play or at least won’t be a one time wonder?

Sylvanian Families? I got a fair few pieces secondhand on eBay last year in excellent condition.

Peachtastic · 03/11/2024 22:33

My 5 year old wants the new tile town stuff. She loves aquabeads as well.

Serene135 · 03/11/2024 22:47

karaoke machine with disco lights
dolls house
wooden farm play set
Melissa and Doug vet/grooming centre (little pricey)
Barbie house
Unicorn jewellery making set/princess jewellery making set
Princess castle playset
Vanity table to fill with bobbles/clips etc

SophiaSW1 · 04/11/2024 00:14

A bike?

Flubadubba · 04/11/2024 02:45

DD (also 5) is desperate for roller skates.

More gnerally, also loves Polly Pocket. Barbie, Sylvanians, Monster High/Rainbow high dolls, slime, play doh (after a period of not using it), those kits where you look for gems/Dinosaur bones, anything from Smiggle. Kerplunk is a hit, Pop Up Pirates, Twister, Guess Who, Frustration, and a game called Dumpster Diver. Bead making kits go down well as did a camera for her birthday, ans a huge craft kit.

Squishmallows and fidget toys go down well too.

Little Live Pets Guinea pig

RoastPotatoConnoisseur · 04/11/2024 10:41

Thanks all. Some really good ideas there that I haven't thought about. I did have to google what a live pet guinea pig was though as initially assumed it was an actual guinea pig Confused we already have things like bikes and scooters from last Christmas and her birthday.
I'm thinking something like Sylvanian families or Barbie dolls is a good way to go. We already have a dolls house so maybe the Sylvanian families would fit in with that she does love playing with it.

I've got my daughter (5) a school role play set. She'll be able to play school with all her cuddlies or Our Generation dolls or more likely me and her dad.

Is anyone biting the bullet & purchasing the live pet guinea pig?? Seems so expensive!! 😧

Nearlyadoctor · 04/11/2024 21:38

Dd loved Playmobil at that age, the big stable set is an amazing wow present .

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 04/11/2024 21:49

@Serene135 i don’t suppose you have a karaoke machine recommendation? That’s such a good idea.

I got this on prime day in October for 30£ !

Laureli · 04/11/2024 22:23

I'm getting little live pets Guinea pig, sylvanian families market, melissa and doug dentist play set, our generation with a horse :) there the main presents. I'm considering the hatchimals alive but don't know if it's worth the money

We have the “IDance Sing Cube BC100 Bluetooth Karaoke System” from Argos and it’s fab! Costs £50. We bought an extra microphone to go with it because it only came with one. It takes seconds to link to a phone etc via Bluetooth so karaoke songs can be played, and the disco lights can be turned on or off. It’s a great little machine and lights up the room like a real disco.

Books, puppet show theatre, and paper

I’ve just got a good deal on a camera recommend on the bargain thread for my 5 year old. It has 50% off so ended up being 16.99 but I think it will end up being my dds favourite present. I think I will get a scrapbook to go with it so she can stick her photos in

that’s a good saving!! I might hang out for Good Friday - always a tense wait though 😂

May convince DH to sign up to cashback. The offer is £25 of a £30 spend. Could potentially land myself a bargain!! 🤔

organicapricot · 04/11/2024 23:43

Thank you for ideas, jumping on this thread! My DD is 5 and same here in that I'm struggling to know what to get. She just keeps saying things that don't even exist! A remote control butterfly was one suggestion. I've got a Gabbys doll house from fb market place and I'm going to go with hair accessories, craft kits, loom bands, a bingo game as little bits. Looking at the little live pet rabbit though as she has been asking for a bunny so might go for this.

MrsSunshine2b · 05/11/2024 13:36

So far, for DD, I've got:

Barbie styling head
Rapunzel Tea Time Doll
Giant Squishie Boba Tea (DD has never had Boba tea but wanted it because it had a strawberry on it)
AI Personalised Book
Europe and UK Jigsaw puzzles, she likes learning where places are
Plaster of Paris craft kit
Rainbow Fairies Beginner Readers set (too ambitious for an actual beginner reader tbh so I might save these for her birthday in February)
Waldorf Doll

Along with a range of stocking fillers like lip balm, bath bombs and craft stuff.

I've got about £50 left of her budget and she's insisting that all she wants is dolls. She already has hundreds of dolls and most of them are unloved 80% of the time so I'm not sure. :/

A doll styling head , not the barbie ones like a ' better' one. Amazon do some for around £30 with part fake part real hair

AgainandagainandagainSS · 05/11/2024 14:18

Craft stuff
Cool swimming costume
lego
funky tights
light up trainers

I have been looking at Playmobil. She got a set last Christmas from my Auntie which she does play with occasionally, but I think this is mostly due to the fact that it's packed away in a cupboard so it's not alwayseasily accessible.

We already have a camera which we got for a holiday early this year so that she could take her own photos, but that was a real hit so a great present for anyone else looking. Think I got it off Amazon for about £20 and it even has simple games on it like snake which she enjoys.

Our house already looks like a branch of hobby craft with all the paper, scissors, glue sticks, pens, pencils, etc Blush she does absolutely love crafting and making though so maybe I'll buy some more bits and bobs that she's getting low on

Do you have a link?

I was really tempted by the styling head. She's always trying to do hairstyles on herself which mostly just look like something Amy Winehouse would have 😂

If she literally has a lot of 'things' already and loves crafting, how about a voucher for a pottery painting class? Something to do in the new year (lovely thing for you to do together) and doesn't involve bringing 'things' into the house.
