Christmas decs! How early is early?

Hi, my neighbour has already put up her Xmas decorations. I feel this is way too early, am I wrong to be annoyed? She did it last year aswell and as it was her first Christmas since moving in I didn't say a thing but she's done it again! I just think doing it to soon just drags it out, I get sick of looking at them! 🙈

We need to know exactly what she has put up. Tree? Reindeer or inflatable Santa on the front lawn? A few fairy lights?

WhatNoRaisins · 29/10/2024 07:47

It would be too early for me personally but then I equally don't get people who go to all the effort of decorating their house for Christmas for a really short period like not putting up a tree until Christmas Eve.

If it bothered me that much I'd maybe try to avoid looking as I went past.

Mlanket · 29/10/2024 07:53

Do they actually bother you though?

one of my neighbours has put their outdoor lights up and I think I will do mine early Dec now as the evenings are so dark.

Dinosaurdrip · 29/10/2024 08:21

Someone near us put theirs up last weekend, it just looks really weird because they have a Christmas tree in their window and pumpkins and ghosts in their garden.

LouH5 · 29/10/2024 09:27

“I didn’t say a thing”

Well… yeah! What CAN you say? It’s absolutely nothing to do with you when she puts her own Christmas decs up in her own house! I don’t think she’ll really care if you’re bored of them or not, it’s not her problem. She likes them, they bring her happiness, it’s up to her when she puts them up.

Does it matter?

Alltheprettyseahorses · 29/10/2024 09:45

Why on earth would you say anything? It's her house, she can put decorations up whenever she wants and no one should be gawping in her window. I'm seeing some significance in her having only moved in recently. Is it one of those tiresome streets with dominance displays depending on how long you've lived there?

garlictwist · 29/10/2024 09:54

I think putting decorations up early is a sign of the complete desire for instant gratification that plagues our society. I think there is so much more pleasure to be derived from anticipating something, waiting for the moment and enjoying it then rather than rushing ahead.

Relax, they are putting decorations up not eating turkey and opening presents presumably. And if they are well who cares?
If anything to though, it's actually prolonging the gratification.....

If it's someone's home then anything before the start of December is ridiculous, imho at least.

ByMerryKoala · 29/10/2024 10:15

Wrong to be annoyed? Hell no. You can be as annoyed as you like. I can't imagine many people are particularly pleased to be in eye shot of Christmas decs in October. But, unfortunately there's nothing you can do op.

GettingStuffed · 29/10/2024 11:59

They start going up the first weekend in December and normally take a few days.

SMC1984 · 29/10/2024 12:05

I'm never one for putting Dec's up before the end of november.
I'm really struggling to fight the urge to watch Christmas films though.

Frozensnow · 29/10/2024 12:06

It is very early and I would probably think it ridiculous if I saw Xmas decs out before October is even over. But I wouldn’t be annoyed- what is it about them that annoy you? Does she have loads all outside the house?

stargirl1701 · 29/10/2024 12:07

I think anytime before Armistice Day is crass.

After St Andrew's Day is fine.

On Christmas Eve is perfect.

WhatNoRaisins · 29/10/2024 12:31

I seem to have developed a not before Armistice Day rule for listening to Christmas music. Not sure if there are different "rules" for Christmas music.

Chocolatecakewithsprinkles · 29/10/2024 13:50

Wouldn't put them up until the first weekend of December personally but unless they had a light show to rival Blackpool keeping you awake at night you have absolutely no need to speak to them about it.

OldTinHat · 29/10/2024 14:06

Someone near me has had their Christmas tree flashing away in the window since 10th October.

VioletCrawleyForever · 29/10/2024 14:14

Anything before 1sr December is too early.

GreenSedan · 29/10/2024 14:17

I wouldn't be annoyed with my neighbours if they did this but I'd definitely be judging.

newuser9090 · 29/10/2024 14:19

My neighbour had halloween decs in their front window but yesterday took them down and put Christmas lights up. Even if you ignore that it's too early for Christmas, it seems a bit strange taking the Halloween things down before halloween!

WhatNoRaisins · 29/10/2024 14:20

Does anyone actually throw a sheet over the Christmas tree to turn it into a ghost like that Facebook photo that pops up every year?

Poggishairtufts · 29/10/2024 14:22

If they're up before 1st Dec then they're not really Christmas decorations are they?

piscofrisco · 29/10/2024 14:22

I did mine last year the last week in November but only because we were having a party on the 2nd December. My usual time is the first weekend in December.

WhatNoRaisins · 29/10/2024 14:24

Technically Advent can start in late November depending on how the days fall.
