Small travel board games

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 23/10/2024 20:55

I don’t necessarily mean travel versions of games (like the connect 4 you get in WHSmith at the airport) 😁 but some games that come in small packages

Heading abroad for 3 weeks over Christmas with my best mate, plans are largely to eat and do nothing, we love a game of Rummy, Scotland Yard etc but looking for some fun games that are still fun if there’s 2 of you (will have 3/4 days of 4 of us also)

Thabks!

Mind the gap is very cute. Also a deck of cards and play switch etc.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 23/10/2024 21:02

Actually, on this subject, any idea where I can get personalised playing cards made 😂

Always, a deck of cards

Bananagrams come in a pouch (obv banana shaped) that though a bit hefty does squish down the awkward sides of bags.

I find a lot of popular board games now come in a travel friendly version, eg Exploding Kittens, so it's worth looking up your favourites.

Dobble and monopoly deal are two we’ve enjoyed.

rhubarbhandsoap · 23/10/2024 22:54

Look up a card game called Shithead (sorry) it’s great with two people and addictive!

Uno, Pass the Pigs, and there is a card deck version of Catan that’s good too!

Clevs · 23/10/2024 23:20

We've got Dobble , travel Snakes & Ladders, travel Uno, dinosaur dominoes and travel Guess Who for holidays (we have a six year old). I also have a travel magnetic Scrabble game for when ai used to go on holiday with friends.

vanillasky1999 · 23/10/2024 23:23

Yahtzee
Dobble
Incan Gold

Namaqua · 24/10/2024 00:49

Taco goat cheese pizza (that's the name of the game!)
Bananagrams
Pass the pigs
Uno

Namaqua · 24/10/2024 00:50

Monopoly Go (this card game version of Monopoly is WAY better, faster paced and more fun than the board game)

SkeletonBatsflyatnight · 24/10/2024 01:23

Hive, Tinderblox and Bandito or Bandita or both

Apparently my suggestions have been hidden until the MNHQ team can have a look at it 😂, but my innocent suggestion of Yahtzee still stands.

Namaqua · 24/10/2024 02:03

Re my suggestion for Monopoly go, wrong name it's Monopoly deal. Good game.

TossedSaladandSE · 24/10/2024 02:04

Uno

Backgammon is very addictive

NobodyGivesADamn · 24/10/2024 03:35

Uno - but the more difficult ones
All Wild
Flip
No Mercy

Mixey · 24/10/2024 04:48

"Hey that's my Fish"
The box is not very big but you could transfer all the pieces to a ziplock bag to make it even more portable.
Quick and easy to learn and play (2-4 players) and is suitable for pretty much all ages. It can get ruthless though!

anibendod · 24/10/2024 05:09

whot! is a fun variation on uno

Agree with previous poster about sh*thead - card game that's lots of fun and easy to pick up. Crazy eights is a bit like uno. German Whist and scopa also good fun. there's lots of videos on youtube explaining how to play

Bananagrams and pass the pigs travel easily.

we've recently bought a travel version of rummikub and have been enjoying that immensely

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 24/10/2024 10:49

Oh amazing! Will check these all out! Thank you!

(intrested to know what the post above said, how do you get a post deleted on a thread about board games 😂😂😂

I've seen a game advertised on all my social media this year; it's called Magnetism some places and magnetic chess in some places. DC had this last year and it is good fun! It's basically a string tied in a loop and a load of magnetic pebbles. You have to try and put all your pebbles down without attracting any.
Anyway it is in a small box and v portable.
Agree that shithead is a great game for cards too!

I'm assuming Amazon would be the cheapest place to purchase most of these in the U.K.?

(I live in Denmark and speak fuck all little Danish so would prefer English instructions)

Don't know how small the packaging needs to be for you but both Linkee and Phase 10 come in fairly small boxes.

This thread is great because I am always looking for ideas for things to go in adult Christmas stockings and some of these could fit the bill. I must definitely look for Shithead Grin

SkeletonBatsflyatnight · 25/10/2024 16:20

BoardGameGeek is pretty good for English instructions/rules if you end up with other language copies. You have to register (free) but then you can download the instructions if they are available (also free). We've ended up with several German editions and whilst my German is passable, I usually hunt down the English version this way to ensure that my translation is accurate.

They are also fairly good for finding reviews/playthroughs to see if you fancy a game before purchase. This can equally lead to you buying far more games than you have time to play though!
