Creative Presents for 15 yr old DD

Have found creative type gifts for other two DDs (Lino printing kit and wood whittling kit), but can’t think of anything for DD3. She’s 15 - not into make up so no cosmetics etc. She got an embroidery hoop kit last year and liked doing it but wouldn’t do another one I don’t think. Does not enjoy design & technology or art at school so nothing related to either of those. One of her most loved gifts of the last few years is a mini zen garden and she regularly sits and makes patterns/designs in the sand.

Really stuck - I just need something which would be comparable to the gifts for other DDs as they’ll all be coming from MIL and she likes to make sure the gifts are comparable in some way. Budget around £30-£40.

Any ideas at all?

WILL NOONE TELL ME WHAT THEY ARE

lol

I've looked at them on amazon and I still can't work them out - are they designed to fit in a bookshelf or are they just a display item

I think they are designed kind of like a bookend? Or I guess they could go in the middle of a bookshelf in between books too?

I am a bit baffled by them. I think DD may like one or two of the designs I’ve seen but I can’t work out the brands - there are loads which all look the same but say they are different brands so I have no idea if there is one original, real brand as it were and then a ton of Chinese fakes/copycats that may not be the same quality?

That's exactly what I'm struggling with. It looks like the kind of little fiddly thing that my dd would love but I can't quite get my head round it. Agree there's loads of versions on amazon.

I bought my dd that lego plants kit BTW and she absolutely loved it, I think it's quite tiktok famous if that means anything to your dd!

Yes the Lego plants are popular in our house too - between the DDs they have quite a few sets now.

The rolife/robotime kits are bigger than the book nooks and have much more inside them. My DD was 12 when she got her first one and spent ages working on it. She is very into crafts and quite smart so was able to follow the instructions and even did the electrical assembly for the light (I supervised that bit!) But they are technically for adults, very fiddly and time consuming. You know your own child's ability to work on it but I'd say 12 is the youngest. Once built you just treat it as an ornament for display it's not something you'd "play" with.
The book nooks are slimmer and designed to stand between books on a shelf. Still very detailed and beautiful but not as much as the bigger models, you'd still need to be quite skilled to assemble it.
Hope that helps!

DDs sets were bought from an Art & Hobby shop but are also available on Amazon

Moonlightshadow12 · 23/10/2024 22:36

Is she into photography?

There are various printers that can turn photos into stickers, add frames, customise them or lenses, filters all compatible with phones.

Alternatively, I know this ranges in price but a telescope. There does seem to be some within the budget on Amazon.

It does! Thank you.

You can get paint by numbers kits from your own photos (try Etsy) they look really cool

Hesma · 23/10/2024 23:41

How about a nice journal and pen?

CuriousAlien · 24/10/2024 18:33

This is a great thread, thanks.

Also to throw another suggestion in, what about an origami fairy lights kit?

This is an excellent suggestion. Lots of specialty papers to create magnets, stationery, designs to be ironed on to t-shirts, etc.

FerminRomeroDeTorres · 24/10/2024 19:21

She got one of those wee mini printers that prints stickers last year, and older DD also has one - can’t remember what hers is called but prints more like Polaroid style pics.

A massive hit with DD was a fused glass kit from Etsy.

You get all the components to make something , in DD's case it was to make 2 suncatchers,. You design and create it at home, send it back in the supplied packaging and the seller fires it and returns it to you.

Loads on Etsy like this (this wasn't the actual seller I bought from though)

Fasterplastercaster · 24/10/2024 19:43

Perhaps if she’s a big reader, she’d like one of those personalised gadgets for embossing your own library?

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 24/10/2024 19:44

How about a lock pick set? You can get them online at Amazon with a couple of locks to practice on.

That was a very big hit with the 16yo here!

DD likes the book nook kits and Lego flowers. She also likes her 3D pen and glass engraver. We did have the bonsai kit but sadly they all died!
