Creative Presents for 15 yr old DD

Have found creative type gifts for other two DDs (Lino printing kit and wood whittling kit), but can’t think of anything for DD3. She’s 15 - not into make up so no cosmetics etc. She got an embroidery hoop kit last year and liked doing it but wouldn’t do another one I don’t think. Does not enjoy design & technology or art at school so nothing related to either of those. One of her most loved gifts of the last few years is a mini zen garden and she regularly sits and makes patterns/designs in the sand.

Really stuck - I just need something which would be comparable to the gifts for other DDs as they’ll all be coming from MIL and she likes to make sure the gifts are comparable in some way. Budget around £30-£40.

Any ideas at all?

I love the rolife kits (dollshouse type miniature rooms) - I have made the book shop and the detective agency, and I have a street scene book nook for my next project. Fun and impressive afterwards.

What about a puzzle? Elena Essex does some lovely ones.

Terrarium kit

coodawoodashooda · 22/10/2024 20:26

Stained glass window experience

Stained glass window experience

I just thought of stained glass but looked at kits and they were either kiddy like, or very serious adult things which looked a bit dangerous! I wonder if there’s anywhere near me that does a workshop type thing. I do think she’d like that

Hama beads? or Picture IT beads from Hobbycraft which are the same thing but much cheaper.

loropianalover · 22/10/2024 21:00

Would she like a Terrarium starter kit? Or a pottery kit?

A baby Bonsai tree to add to her zen garden.

Fearne cotton gift set

Spa set - nail buffer, head massager, back scratcher type things

You can buy mini perfume sets that you mix and match to create your own preferred scent..

mumbruh · 22/10/2024 21:02

Or a grow your own herbs kit

Diamond painting is a hit with my usually non crafty niece of the same age. Doesn’t really need skill just something to focus on/ relax whilst doing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! These are great ideas. I think something like the mosaic or stained glass would suit her, or the metal stamping kit - I could see her making wee bookmarks and keyrings for everyone with that.

I KNEW mumsnet would come through! Lots to look at now and maybe even a few ideas for other people wanting to get creative gifts for non-arty teens!

(I’m also adding a baby bonsai tree to the list! We haven’t had good experience with terrariums before (older DD seems to kill then all!) but we wee mini real bonsai would be very cool and would look great next to her Lego bonsai tree and cherry blossom tree lamp.)

For creative hobbies that veer more towards absorbing rather than needing arty skills:

  • Mandala making kit
  • Kumihimo kit
Ostagazuzulum · 23/10/2024 01:04

What about a tufting kit to make a small
Rug for her reading corner?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 23/10/2024 12:34

Similar vein to the Book Nook, my teen DD has a couple of miniature sets from the Rolife range and loves them. Very detailed and time consuming to assemble but she really enjoyed it. She has a greenhouse one and a coffee shop one. Both are beautiful and have working lights etc!

She got a terrarium kit last year and loved it. Was gifted a bonsai too but that has died!

WWGD · 23/10/2024 13:47

I was going to suggest the lego bonsai tree as you can make it leaves or blossom so good for fidgeting/changing around.

Am off to look up book nooks for my dd now

justasking111 · 23/10/2024 19:46

The nook book arrived today. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished project

which one did you get?

Thommasina · 23/10/2024 20:54

What are they? Just little stand up things?

It's a Japanese house and garden.

Can anyone explain to me the difference between a Book Nook and a RoLife kit? When I search Book Nook on Amazon it’s all Rolife kits that come up, but someone up thread suggested them as an alternative to Book Nooks so now I’m wondering what I’m missing!
