As the title says really, I had a quick look in the works but was not inspired. Not into crime or thrillers. I am looking for a feeling good Christmas themed read

Oooh following with interest!

SilverShadowNight · 10/10/2024 15:42

Heidi Swain, Cathy Bramley, Bella Osborne, Karen Swan and Milly Johnson. Easy reads but not crime.

Timeforaglassofwine · 10/10/2024 15:42

I really enjoyed Winter Ghosts by Kate Mosse. It's not really a thriller, it isn't a classic ghost story as such but more of a historical atmospheric back in time type thing.

ArtichokeAardvark · 10/10/2024 15:45

The Secret of Happy Ever After - Lucy Dillon. Covers a whole year but starts and finishes at Christmas.

Justforchristmas · 10/10/2024 15:49

This sounds good thank you

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
The Children of Green Knowe

Calm Christmas by Beth Kempton. She also does a podcast and her voice is so easy on the ear . All about wintering , Christmas, wellbeing etc . I just find it so cathartic.

Trisha Ashley has loads of warm hearted Christmas books

I'm relatively new to Jenny Colgan books but I couldn't put this one down around Christmas last year. It came everywhere with me like a toddler carries a blanket! Feel good storyline, great Christmassy atmosphere... I'm holding out until November to reread it again (I rarely reread anything!)

I came on to recommend this one! The new one came out last year 'Midnight at the Christmas bookshop' which you might enjoy as well 😊

I love that book and it's so, so much better than the film.

Also wanted to recommend Christmas at the Beach Hut by Veronica Henry and Prudence by Jilly Cooper Wink

Karen Swan publishes a Christmas book every year. Easy reading.

Thought of this one straight away! I'm going to get Midnight at the Christmas Bookshop this year. Hope it's as good.

I've been reading some more Jenny Colgan this year and she does series as well with some of them being set around Christmas as well.

The Country Child by Alison Uttley.

It's a memoir of a (surprise!) child living on a farm in Derbyshire in the 1890s. The Christmas bit is just 1 chapter but there's also quite a bit about winter in general and it is just beautifully written.

I loved the children of Green Knowe..I'd read it now even tho I'm knocking 70

Winter Solstice, Rosamunde Pilscher. Reread each Christmas, it's a bit ridiculous in places, but a lovely calm story and very festive.

Ditto. Some very sad bits, but I still love it.

I re read the Dark is Rising every Xmas. It is so wonderful. Gothic dark Christmassy it's perfect.
I read it to my year 7 tutor group one year. They objected to me splitting them into dark and light. Well the ones I said were dark objected.
Good Times.

I came on to say exactly this!!

My favourite is "The Twelve Days of Christmas". I re-read it every year but I have a personal rule that I can't start before November 18th. I even have a special bookmark that I made for it because I once worked out which date it was in each chapter so I keep that in the book. Sad, aren't I?

GettingStuffed · 11/10/2024 12:51

Also how to survive Christmas by Jilly Cooper, a very funny upper middle class view of the Christmas period.
