Best present you've ever brought for your 3 year old?

Can anyone tell me the best presents you have bought for your 3 year old? I am at a loss as to what to get my daughter for Christmas (she will be 3 in February), and I'm trying to be organised this year. She isn't into any particular TV shows so anything character related isn't something I can get! Was thinking of a Tonie box but not sure if she's a bit young to really use it.

What's been a hit for your kids?

Balance bike or toy kitchen

MemphisBluesAgain · 29/09/2024 19:52

Magnetic tiles/ Magformers are great for longevity - DD still plays with them aged 7.

LostMyRubySlippers · 29/09/2024 19:53

When my eldest was 3 we got him his first scooter for Christmas. My daughter I think had a wooden dolls house at that age but she also got a mud kitchen one year that went down well.
youngest is 3 this year & tbh we already have most stuff from the older 2. Have got him some magnetic tiles & some Duplo to add to the collection

My turning 3 yr was given a Tonie for her 2nd birthday and loves it. Yoto is certainly more portable, but she sits and listens to her Tonie box for hours (and tucks the figures up in bed at night).

LostMyRubySlippers · 29/09/2024 19:55

As her birthday is quite close to Christmas, may be good to think of what she can use over the coming year, eg any summer toys/ outdoor items etc

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/09/2024 19:56

Balance bike, 100%.

SpookyGiraffe · 29/09/2024 19:56

We have a tonie box, which is used daily by our 4 year old (she likes to put a tonie on to fall asleep to or while she's playing in her room), it's been a huge hit especially over the last year.

Other hits - Magnetic tiles (started off with 150 tiles at 3, then added to), scooter, wobble board, bilibo seat, toy kitchen, pushchair and doll.

Last Christmas the biggest hit was a mama surprise guinea pig, my DM got it her as a late addition and I was a bit worried that it would be a one day wonder but she's played with it pretty much every day since Christmas, she was 3 nearly 4 though so this might be one to keep for a future year.

Scooter
yoto player
toy kitchen
magnatiles
duplo

these are the items with greatest play for my youngesr

bubbletubble · 29/09/2024 20:03

Thanks for the suggestions. She has a toy kitchen and the magnet tiles which she loves! Good shout on the balance bike, might take a look as that feels like a "big" present.

Magformers and balance bike are good suggestions.

Playdoh (I use a PVC tablecloth as a mat on the floor to limit mess)

Felt pens that smell of fruit etc - scentos. Other pens and pencils to encourage mark making/drawing/writing.

Dd got into Usborne sticker dolly dressing books at that age, needs a bit of manual dexterity though.

A train set and a garden swing.

Sunsflowetsinthegarden · 29/09/2024 20:09

A Melissa and Doug wooden ice cream parlour set. Has been played with pretty much everyday by my 5 year old for the past 3 years (and my 2 year old now too!) usually some knocking about on FB marketplace as not that cheap new.

Covidwoes · 29/09/2024 20:11

My DDs both had this before age 3, but the Leapfrog ice cream cart has been a huge hit with them both. My eldest (age 6) still loves it now! I got it for £15 second hand on marketplace.

We bought my grandson a small rocking horse with his name on that had to be built. He was 3 and we got him to " help" grandad build it.
We gave him his own screwdriver. We took a series of pictures, of the bits laid out , him " helping " grandad by holding bits or screwing bits. When it was built we took a picture of the built rocking horse with the 2 of them sitting there holding up their screwdrivers with pride.
He loved it because he built it and he's 18 now and still looks at those pictures and smiles. He also showed them to his girlfriend laughing.
2 things to note, firstly grandad is not a diyer so it was easy to build and secondly I've still got the bloody thing as I can't bring myself to get rid of it and my grandson would be horrified if I did. 😀

Few years since mine were 3 but some big hits in our house
Kidcraft dollhouse
Kitchen
vtech camera

NameChange30 · 29/09/2024 20:18

Balance bike

Scooter (if they don't already have one)

Yoto player. Much better than Tonies, we had both but ended up selling the Toniebox! The Yotos are used every single day in our house, from age 2 to age 7 and counting.

NameChange30 · 29/09/2024 20:19

Vtech camera was a hit with both my DC, too.

Gettingannoyednow · 29/09/2024 20:23

Little indoor trampoline. I have had visitors say delightful things like "What, you have that in your living room all the time?" like it's somehow not OK, but dd has been on it every single day since we got it 2 years ago.

Rimtimtagidimdim · 29/09/2024 20:25

Definitely the Leapfrog ice cream cart

BusySittingDown · 29/09/2024 20:32

Little People toys. Played with for YEARS.

It's been a long time since I had a 3 year old as my youngest is 13 but we had the Little People Garage, the Noah's Ark and the Farm. Some of them were bought for my eldest (now 17) and passed on to my youngest. Now they have been passed on to my sister's grandchildren, who play with them loads when they are at her house.

imnotthatkindofmum · 29/09/2024 20:34

Toy kitchen
Barbie sized dolls house
First bike
Dolls pram
3 wheeled scooter
Small Trampoline
Box of dressing up stuff

KitBag2024 · 29/09/2024 20:44

Duplo here! Used for years. Also what others have said, magnatoys and ice cream sets.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 29/09/2024 20:46

Oh I did very well at Lidl when DS was 2/3:

  • marble run
  • click clack track
  • other stuff I can't remember
Angliski · 29/09/2024 20:49

Leapfrog mr pencil
yoto mini and cards

This was going to be my suggestion too. I think we got it the Christmas she was 2.5 and it’s been played with probably daily for 3 years
