Is there such a thing as a fabulous hot water bottle?

Can I ask for recommendations for a truly lovely hot water bottle if such a thing exists. We've somehow lost ours! Going to treat each other to new ones for Christmas.

Budget not really a consideration as last one lasted for 11yrs so would rather spend more for similar quality. Would replace that, but can't for the life of me think where it came from. Everything seems to have a really crap synthetic faux fur (or similarly naff) cover...or is one of those alternative microwaveable jobs that smells of stale biscuits.

Is there a really super one that we're missing out on?

Great

So the electric ones can explode lithium battery all over you. And the water ones can burst and give you hideous burns.

So....

Just stay cold, it's the only way.

Warm Up – YUYU (yuyubottle.com)

Yuyu water bottles are really lovely

I was coming on to say this, I love mine!

MyCatsSlave · 18/09/2024 21:26

Please don’t use them after 2 years. I had one burst on me and like a previous poster ended up in A and E with large second degree burns that were horrifically painful and took a long time to heal. I still have issues with the skin on my shin 6 years later

I have a USB hot water bottle and will never go back to regular water bottle. So much handier

M&S have nice hot water bottles, years ago I got my daughter a unicorn covered one and a dragon covered one. I see on their site Percy pig ones and a cute penguin. Often Matalan has them nearing winter, got a long polar bear one from there as well as a normal shaped one.

I can strongly recommend the ‘throw another dog on the bed’ method of winter heating. They seldom explode, have a very long life, and are cuddly too.

I also have used electric for a good number of years & like it but am a bit suspicious of them!

LePetitMaman · 18/09/2024 22:29

I thought electric sounded great - until someone pointed out their lithium batteries explode.

Which is so much better than scalding water.

Hmm, they can explode - not experienced it on the bed yet, but it would be quite the job to clear up!

A lovely cuddly dog works really well, and lasts usually up to 14 years.

I love Hugo Frosch hot water bottles. They aren't made of rubber. Having had an old rubber one burst on me before that's quite a bonus.

These are the best hot water bottles I've found. (I really feel the cold and I'm also partial to electric throws and heat pads).

I really want a hot water bottle with a proper cover on it so that I can't feel the actual bottle.

The hot water bottle covers of my youth were like pouches with a top that folded over and encased the hot water bottle. I can't find one like that now, they all seem to have the rubber exposed at the top. Even some of the incredibly expensive ones.

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 27/09/2024 20:36

My Dd was badly burnt last year whilst filling her hot water bottle. She dropped it and it splashed all over her thighs. A&E and visits from the community nurses for a few weeks plus a fear of making her own now.
I liked the idea of electric ones but not if they can explode.
I might just buy new regular ones.

@PotatoBreadForTheWin I had exactly this search a few years ago and since then have bought this bottle a couple of times. It's not the most glam, but the fleece fabric feels nice on your feet and the flap style cover is sooo much better than the open top ones! They have a few different patterns in the same style, it's a winner for me and my verrry cold toes!

Fab, thank you @cordiality - that looks just the job

The wheat and rice bags often do smell a bit funny! I like the cherry stone ones though, to me they smell better. Lidl do them cheaply occasionally, or you could get them on Etsy. If you're wanting a fancy one, my kids and I all have Senger soft toys that you can unzip and they have a cherry pit pack inside. They are expensive but don't need replacing every two years so I guess cheaper in the long run! As long as you take care of them, follow the instructions etc.
Bonus if you care about these sorts of things is that when you're done with it it is biodegradable

Omg. - that's the cutest picture!! Great dog. 😍

Do the electric ones give out lots of heat or just a mildly comforting warmth?

i have an atrociously bad back and one of the things that helps is a really hot hot-water bottle. But reading the exploding stories with concern…

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 28/09/2024 13:29

I want it hot too. My mum has a heat pad that's plug in but it's only warm.
