Husband help

whosaidtha · 13/08/2024 13:01

I'm asking for help with my husband as you were all so helpful last year. (I ended up going with a guided mystery to solve while walking round York)
I need something for my impossible to buy for husband. I'll lay out my problems:

He hates stuff.
He doesn't drink
He's vegan (I always fill his sticking with vegan treats so no more food)
He doesn't have any hobbies really

I'm really struggling. I am getting him a photo calendar and some vegan chocolate but totally stuck on a main gift. Would like to spend around £50 but can go a bit higher if I'm positive he'll like it.
Please help!!

Sports watch or gym type stuff?

gardenmusic · 13/08/2024 13:06

Clothing? Something sustainable like bamboo?
Would he use a pen?

Flubadubba · 13/08/2024 13:16

Some kind of experience gift? A charity gift- is there anything close to hos heart, e.g. an animal charity(suggesting as he is vegan)?

I am hoping the answers to this thread will be handy for me as well!

I got my boyfriend the Manchester guided mystery for his birthday and he liked that, so I think we can relate.

Other gifts I’ve bought him have been so hit and miss. Ones he’s clearly loved were a print of song titles of “our songs”, murder mystery night, guided mystery tour and books by his fave author.
Ones he’s been less keen on (and he would never tell me he didn’t like them, but they are still unused in gift bags in the spare room 🙈) are a jumper, fancy knife (he loves cooking but clearly wasn’t impressed with this!), nice chocolates, aftershave, a t shirt etc etc.

He would NEVER be ungrateful but I want to get him something amazing for Christmas that he’ll love, as he always does so well when gift buying for me!

Flubadubba · 13/08/2024 13:21

Have you got kids? One thing that went down v well with DH was a framed sketch (taken from his favourite photo) of him and DD for his office.

Edited to add:
Could also work with other family members or animals...

He doesn't go to the gym and I've bought him watches in the past and he can't get on with them.

Clothes is my usual when I'm stuck so I'd like something different.

I know. My husband would never say he didn't like something but I also have a little pile of unused gifts.

I'm going to get him a photo calendar with pics of the kids which I do every year. And I usually get him a photo book of our holiday pics for his birthday. Think might be a bit too many kids photos but I do like the idea.

A good coffee machine?

He doesn't like any hot drinks. I might add that to my Christmas list though!!

Is he Into music? Gig tickets for fave band/opera/club/show?
Has he a favourite clothing brand you can get him something from?
If he likes cooking then a vegan recipe book?

Thanks for the ideas. I do like the idea of gig tickets but he'd need someone to go with or we'd need a babysitter. It's definitely something I'll look into.
Also we have enough vegan cookbooks to open a library and I'm the only one who cooks in our house. His repertoire extends only to oven chips and vegan sausages!!

@whosaidtha haha. Men. Mine is terrible to buy for unless he specifies the exact thing. I'd be buying him clothes he'd never wear!
Luckily mines into music tech so it's always something along those lines he chooses.
My dad though?! Stilton? Socks?! It's an utter pita to buy for blokes!

gardenmusic · 13/08/2024 13:52

Are any spirits vegan? One of mine has a bottle of rum and a specified book, another has a malt.
I have in the past given a flying lesson, a balloon trip, a shooting lesson and an archery lesson, but with no hobbies that could be difficult.
Does he like any magazines? A subscription, perhaps?

Elbone · 13/08/2024 13:55

He doesn't drink.
I like the magazine subscription idea but I imagine he'll say he has no time and then they'll stack up. The same with the books I bought him that he's never read. Just says he doesn't have time.

Does he like arty stuff? I got my husband a book called something like 582 things to draw, and a pack of nice fine liners to go with it. Otherwise, how about a one off class or workshop eg pottery. Otherwise, a nice plant/tree for the garden.

StormingNorman · 13/08/2024 14:00

Does he have a favourite band, film, book? You could get him some memorabilia, framed poster, early edition of the book.

Cooking master class? Our local colleges and some restaurants offer cooking schools - get him cooking at home and extend his repertoire

twentysevendresses · 13/08/2024 14:20

Blimey...he doesn't drink alcohol, doesn't drink hot drinks, has no hobbies, doesn't 'have time' to read, doesn't cook...😵‍💫

What DOES he do OP?

Do you do anything 'as a couple' that you could maybe buy a gift around? Do you hike, go cycling, swimming, play dominoes?? There must be 'something' that he's interested in??

Elbone · 13/08/2024 14:23

He needs a hobby or an interest.

Mattsmum2 · 13/08/2024 14:25

Instead of a Christmas gift how about an advent calendar?

AquaFurball · 13/08/2024 14:34

An acre of Rainforest?

OverthinkingRogue · 13/08/2024 14:40

Wallet, socks, pants, lynx toiletries, watch/smart watch, books, vouchers for the cinema/Amazon, a day trip for you both, a meal out?
