I haven't done one, Meeces, but somebody I know has. She almost lost the will to live, sad to say!

I'll make my pudding next month. I'm going to buy vodka to make some fruity vodka soon though.

Morning!

It's meant to be lovely this weekend. I've taken the dog out already, before a) it gets too warm and b) Parkrun gets going and we have to dodge joggers or chase / race them; the dog loves a jogger or 5 in the woods!

I'm going to go shopping for BBQ food in a bit, plus milk / carrot for the dog top up, as well as going to Jollyes for a few dog bits poo bags.

Then I'll relax as much as possible, I think. It's been a long old week!

Sounds lovely @NoWordForFluffy

Hot here in Utrecht. We went on a pedalo on the canal and then to a park. Now chilling out inside. Have to be up at 04:15 tomorrow to get home.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/08/2024 13:54

Sounds like you've had a lovely time, @Hopingforno2in2024!

I got poo bags in Sainsbury's with the top up shop. Saved mucking about with Jollyes. I get the dog biscuit delivered, so a trip just for poo bags is a pain!

Forgot to say, in true rock'n'roll style, we've just rearranged the freezers so it's easier to find stuff. It gets chaotic due to DH just shoving stuff in when not kept on top of.

On Day 2 of our cruise. No idea where we are at the moment , but I think tomorrow is the choppy sea day .
Loads of children, teens, toddlers with it being the school holidays .
sunbathed a bit now lazing about with an ice cream cone

Hopingforno2in2024 · 11/08/2024 12:49

Very nice @NoWordForFluffy

Where are you cruising to @70isaLimitNotaTarget? Hope the sea isn’t too choppy tomorrow.

We are safely back from Utrecht. Lovely to go away but so lovely to come home again :) Also means I can get back to cross stitching!

JenniferGreenHat · 11/08/2024 13:07

Happy holiday @70isaLimitNotaTarget

We arrived back home to our little island this morning - felt quite sick on the boat today as it was so foggy outside, no horizon to focus on. Glad to be home, kind of.

Lovely card @NoWordForFluffy

Just googled Utrecht as I wasn’t sure where it was - it looks really nice @Hopingforno2in2024

Hello everyone, I'd like to hop onto this thread if I may- a total Christmas lover.

I've recently done my first cross stitch and it was a steep learning curve, but I enjoyed having something to do with my hands while watching tv. So I'm thinking of ordering some from amazon- £25 for 6 cards which I think is ok, with basic patterns so shouldn't be too hard for me.

I've also got diamond art ones to do- 12 for £12. They're also basic but cute and I do like sending Christmas cards, I try to write really nice messages in them so start writing them in November as it takes me forever. I know they're falling out of favour now, I'd say the price of stamps has a part to play in it, but I do enjoy doing them so I'll continue.

Can I join please? Love Christmas and always have lots of plans for crafts but run out of time st the end. I’ve ordered a couple if wrendale cards do plans to get them done early before advent calendar etc kicks in

Hopingforno2in2024 · 12/08/2024 08:49

Morning all :)

Welcome @MinnieDog & @Midlifeshenanigans, always nice to have more cross stitchers :)

Crazy storm here last night and of course today is bin day so rubbish everywhere this morning. Just back from a run and then need to do some housework. Hopefully fit in some Spirit of Christmas later.

Hope everyone has a nice day

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 12/08/2024 09:23

Lovely card Fluffy

I think I'm going to abandon the cross stitch stocking idea and maybe consider either sewing one using the Christmas material I have here (although I'm crap with a sewing machine) or maybe try crocheting one.

Sounds like you had a lovely trip hoping

Hope today isn't too choppy for you 70

Welcome minnie and midlife

It's really muggy and horrible but should clear up later so I've popped a wash on.

We had a bit of a weird weekend with some ILs arguing and trying to drag us into it so it all feels a bit unsettled here. DH is planning a tip run and has a list of little jobs he wants to get done while I'm working, then I have an appointment at 4 and a quiet, cross stitch filled evening planned as I think we both need to relax.

DS has just put Home Alone on!

Welcome Minnie and Midlife and happy holidays 70. Welcome home everyone else.

Its bloody boiling in London, I did some gardening but as the sweat was running off me thought I might be better just lying on the grass.

Although its stupid degrees outside I am still thinking about starting my christmas cake next week🎅

JenniferGreenHat · 12/08/2024 13:41

@Hopingforno2in2024 Home Alone! Very nice. I love that film! I watched Mog’s Christmas yesterday, I love the music and how simple it all is.

I really want a more simple Christmas. But then I saw a lovely advent calendar for DC, with wooden animal figures. So now debating what to do.

MinnieDog · 12/08/2024 15:20

Thanks for the welcomes!

@Magnoliasunrise the weather in London looks like it may hit 35 today, which makes me very glad to be in Scotland. Fair play to you for trying to do gardening! We had a flash thunderstorm at 8am and now lovely cool air.

ConstantlyCooking · 12/08/2024 15:47

Hi all, I dropped off the threads because work was getting stressful, but now it's summer and I can plan my Christmas vodka and Christmas cake Smile

Midlifeshenanigans · 12/08/2024 16:35

Thanks for the welcome. Had a look through my Christmas fabrics and I’m determined this is the year that I finish my table runner.

NoWordForFluffy · 12/08/2024 18:11

Don't mention the table runner, @Midlifeshenanigans! I have something which is meant to be tea towels, donated from Woolly, which I'm thinking about making into a table runner instead. However, I don't know if I need to adapt the pattern slightly for it to work. One day...

We had rain first thing, but no predicted storm. It's definitely less humid today, thankfully. Not much above 20° either. Phew!

OP posts:
TheWoollybacksWife · 12/08/2024 21:03

We had what seemed like about 15 big fat drops of rain just after lunch. Temperatures reached the low 30s and typically I ended up cooking not one but two dinners tonight as DH and the gang are off to see MIL tomorrow so I made food for them to take because I'm a 😇

I have dealt with all the post holiday laundry but I'll iron tomorrow when it's a bit cooler.

I'm knitting socks that will be Christmas presents - I think my patience for cross stitch has gone and to be honest I haven't tried since I switched to varifocals. I usually take my glasses off for close work like counting rows and stitches but I'm not sure cross stitching with the Aida held four inches from my nose is a good look 😂

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 13/08/2024 07:14

134 Morning. Been awake since 5:30 with a very random but very painful throat. Voice is almost gone and my throat feels like it has needles in when I swallow 😷

jennifer what do you mean by wanting a simple Christmas? Less busy/less people or less stuff?

Welcome back constantly

You've been busy woolly!

It's due to be warm but to rain later on today but will make no difference to me as I'll be inside working 🙄

JenniferGreenHat · 13/08/2024 09:08

@NoCheesesForUsMeeces I think by simple Christmas I mean both presents and also activities.

I think I organise lots of things and make us too busy. Last year we went on the little train Christmas light tour twice - once with each set of grandparents. But after school/work it was a bit of a rush, and we probably should have done it once. Along with the normal brownies/dance/swimming lessons, it was another evening where we were busy. We also went on a local charity light walk, another day saw Father Christmas. DH would say it was too much. But I love all those things.

We are going to Lapland this year with both sets of grandparents, at the end of Nov, so definitely need to have a less busy December. All it takes is the kids to get ill and a couple of weeks has passed quickly.

Present wise we probably have too many. I had so many presents to wrap, loads of evenings spent doing an hour of wrapping here and there. We tend to have more less expensive presents. Like FIL will have a puzzle book, chocolates, golf balls etc. Rather than one present. I’m filling a stocking for my Mum this year, which already has a number of small presents. So there probably will be a lot of presents again - maybe I’ll just aim to wrap in November!

Now I’ve seen an advent calendar for DC3 which is wooden animals. I know he would love the chocolate one. And yet I’m still thinking about the animal one. Complete hypocrite!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/08/2024 09:24

Jennifer. 100% get your wrapping done in November if you can . If you clear everyone out , use the ironing board as your wrapping table , good scissors and a hefty good quality tape dispenser. If you add in a glass of something and a Christmas film then it might be enjoyable .

I always try and get it done by December otherwise it’s a chore not a nice tradition.

One of the onboard gift shops has bauble decorations, and Santa Claus. Might buy one as a memento and make sure I keep it out of the cats reach.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/08/2024 09:29

Wooden animal advent sounds lovely and it’s something he can play with long after Christmas.

Chocolate one too, it’s a little bit of chocolate every day . You might prefer that to a selection box?

My adult DC were not impressed with advent calendars the past few years. DD just wants a standard Cadbury one and I’ll buy chocolate coins for DS.
