Afternoon!

Bad news: I had a hangover this morning. Very bad news: the dog made me go for a 6km run. 🦮😩🤢
Good news: I don't feel as bad now, other than being knackered.
Very good news: I managed to hit my chargeable hours target despite feeling shite. 🤣 🏆

I got myself a gadget. It's a lawn trimmer thingy, so I can get to the grass to the back of and around my herbs / plants. It's amazing (if noisy!) and I love it!

TheWoollybacksWife · 05/07/2024 19:17

Was your hangover news related @NoWordForFluffy 😉

I've just had fish, chips and champagne for dinner. A very northern, Catholic, Friday celebration dinner 😂

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/07/2024 20:20

Oh I didn't know if I put the hashtag sign it makes my letters go giant .

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 05/07/2024 20:33

Firefly I want a special Christmas wrapping tiara now too!

70 I agree with the importance of a good scissors and a heavy sellotape dispenser for successful wrapping.
May aim is to get in done in the space of 2 films (muppets Christmas Carol to start) but it has taken me as many as 4 before now Xmas Shock

Fluffy I hope you’re feeling better now. Hangovers are the worst!

Today has been quite nice. I managed a lunchtime walk for the first time in a while, finished work at 3, ticked a few boring jobs off my list and went out for an early tea with DH.
Am now home enjoying listening to it raining outside.

Just watched the Christmas Eastenders on the Classics (Drama Channel)
They all look so young !
They all pile round each others houses
It snowed (of course)
They all went to the Vic on Christmas night ( and Christmas Eve)

Today it absoballyloutlly peed with rain. Hopefully the water butt and the potted plants will feel the benefit ?

Our daft MaleCat went out in it , came back drenched . His much cleverer sister FemaleCat larded on our bed all day .

Magnoliasunrise · 06/07/2024 08:35

Morning!

That was a late night 70. I was early to bed last night as also hungover.

Now I want a tiara, lawn thingy trimmer and heavy tape dispenser.

Supposed to be out for the day at BBQ and its absolutely peeing down. Honestly its supposed to be July!!! My summer dress outfit is now changing to boots and raincoat.

NoWordForFluffy · 06/07/2024 10:18

I have a heavy tape dispenser. It's ace! Firefly may have got hers when I got mine, as a recommendation on the bargain thread a few years ago now.

I do need a tiara, mind you!

I'm hoping the weather is better tomorrow as we have a BBQ to go to then.

I've had a very wet dog run this morning. Lucky me got taken on a longer than usual route in a monsoon! 7.6km and I was drowned! 🦮 🏃🏻‍♀️ 🌧️ (The dog chooses our route each morning!)

He's now knackered, resting with me on the sofa. Good boy!

It's very soggy here too. Hoping it dries up tonight as I have an outdoor gig (but I have wellies and a poncho on hand if needed).

I always enjoyed a dog walk in the rain Fluffy - here it meant you didn't bump into many people and I enjoyed the peace.

Ive spent a morning cross stitching and drinking tea. Need to get moving now though - am popping to town for bird food and a mooch while DH goes food shopping, then the kitchen and conservatory need a clean before we're out for food and drinks before the gig.

JenniferGreenHat · 06/07/2024 15:19

Glad to hear I’m not the only one who has had a Christmas Eve wrapping nightmare. I was much better last year, wrapped very early. But I had way too many presents to wrap - over 180. I made a note of all presents wrapped, so this is a very accurate number. My aim is to cut down this year, buying fewer presents. A few special presents hopefully 🤶🏻

Such a busy day so far, DH feeling unwell. He’s finally resting. Taken one DC to dance rehearsals and watched their Irish show. Felt very emotional watching DC dancing. Now to wrap a present and write card ready for a kid party. Usually DH does a lot of the running around, so I’m stepping up today!

I’ve watched Deck the Halls recently - I love watching Christmas preparations 🎄 Christmas with the Kranks may have been on recently too!!

JenniferGreenHat · 06/07/2024 15:36

DH gave me a small box of quality street. Looking at them brings back lots of childhood memories, my grandparents always had a tin at Christmas. My sister and I always shared the strawberry cremes out - now I also have to share with the DC! Strawberry and orange cremes are most popular in this house!

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 06/07/2024 16:53

How many people do you buy for jennifer?
180 presents is loads to wrap!

I buy for 19/20 people in all but one opts for a hamper so no wrapping and I try and get 'experience' presents a lot of the time and reduce wrapping that way.

I often get roped into wrapping for other people though, and for the last few years I've volunteered for a different charity thing in work - basically we do a gift wrapping service. Work buy the paper and sellotape and we charge £1 per present with all money going to a children's charity. I enjoy that but it's so much easier as it's done in the office, at a big desk with a comfy chair and people bring me tea and biscuits and it's just a jolly festive afternoon Xmas Grin

Had a change of plan for this evening. It's apparently going to rain heavily during the gig and one of DHs friends posted on their group asking if anyone knew of any tickets going to I've sold him mine.
I wasn't massively fussed on the band and def don't like them enough to stand in the rain and watch so I'm home alone for the night.
Am ploughing through housework for the next hour or so then going to chill out with some crime programme or other probably!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/07/2024 21:35

ah Quality Street are very Christmas aren't they ? My Gran always gave us a jumper or pyjamas and a bag of Quality Street (Pick'n'Mix ) the colours of the wrappers were so festive .

I know there was uproar when the wrappers for Roses were being changed for dull paper ones -more environmentally friendly than plastic/foil but nowhere near as festive .

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 06/07/2024 21:50

I missed the QS post - they just signal Christmas don't they?

It was always a fight to the death for the purple ones in our house. They're mine, my sister and my dad's favourite.
My mum has a Santa bowl that's probably older than me and she puts them in there and even now I'll go to hers, look in the bowl and she'll say 'don't bother, your sister already stole them' then give me one from her hidden stash Xmas Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 06/07/2024 21:51

I love that gift wrapping idea at work, Meeces. I'd really like to do that!

Sounds like a good idea re the gig. Wet gigs are miserable, even if you're really into the band playing!

It's turned out lovely here, albeit windy. We've got two loads of washing dry anyway.

I'm all for the green triangles!

The purple wrapped hazelnut caramel one
The coconut one
and there used to be a peanut brittle crackley one nut I think that vanished

The one that got left was the strawberry cream

Green triangles and purple ones in our house.

I bought some stocking fillers on the Accessorize sale last night - they've got 60% off on some stuff. I think DD will like some of the necklaces.

If anyone sees the heavy tape dispenser recommendation let me know. My mum has one that she's had since I was little and its brilliant. It can also be used as a door stop its so heavy.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/07/2024 09:04

If you Google Rapesco tape dispensers, loads come up at good prices!

It's meant to be raining here, but isn't yet. No doubt it'll start as soon as I take the dog out! 😩

Thanks Fluffy, got a nice powder blue one with 2 tape rolls for £7.25 on amazon. Wrapping here I come!

JenniferGreenHat · 07/07/2024 13:46

I got my Dad the tape dispenser for Father’s Day - I was fed up of calling them whilst they were wrapping. My Mum cutting “tape the wrong size” for him whilst he held the paper, so now he can do it all himself!

All quality street wrappers were paper, except the purple one! Still looked very festive 🍬

belgiumchocolates · 07/07/2024 18:28

The lawn trimmer gadget would be a perfect Christmas present for my Mum, great tip thanks @NoWordForFluffy

Tomorrow we'll be into the one hundred and sixties Xmas Grin

What can I say about today ?
Bin collection
Work
Rain
Pasta for dinner

JenniferGreenHat · 08/07/2024 19:50

It has rained all day here.

Somehow a bird has shit whilst flying over my house, and it’s landed across multiple slats in my bedroom shutters. Purple poo that has also stained the paint on the wall. It has caused my ocd to flare up as I feel like I haven’t cleaned it all up. I can’t get it out of my head.
