For my mum, particular skincare she enjoys but finds rather expensive. Also recreating a photo I found from childhood with the wider family and framing it recreation side by side with original.

I had a great idea for my dad and promptly forgot it. Have 8 months to remember it though.

For a close friend, a Tim Burton-movie themed stocking. With some giant bubbles because she loved mine. Ooh and some Lush bath products or Matey so she has lots of types of bubbles. Okay a Burton & bubbles themed stocking.

Sorry I lashed out. It's purely jealousy of your organisation skills.

psuedocream3 · 10/04/2024 15:09

The Tim Burton themed stocking sounds brilliant!

I've already started shopping, I have five children to buy for so it's too stressful and expensive to leave it late like I did last year.

I've bought things like pokemon card sets, lego, aphmau stuff, trainers, minecraft stuff, skincare and beauty gift sets just for the older teen, a couple of books, most of their stocking fillers. Everything was significantly reduced but things they would ask for, Bought the standard bits for my husband, not decided on his main gift yet.

No ideas really for my youngest son but have got a sonic smartwatch and goo jitzu truck set. My youngest daughter will want anything and everything unicorn so she's easy, have only nought a polly pocket set, princess smartwatch and some books so far. The older ones will also be getting a smores kit and bubble tea kit each, probably freeze dried sweets too. Eldest will want gift cards and whatever the trending items are.

My Mum and partner will be their favourite gin and if I can afford it a nights stay at their favourite castle.

We also do a family secret Santa, not drawn until last minute usually so no ideas until December for that.

hattie43 · 10/04/2024 18:08

I've unexpectedly just bought a present for a friend . He mentioned he likes the Lego orchid set and I came across it reduced to £30. Bargain . In the event he buys it himself I'll keep it and add it to my own collection

Favouritefruits · 10/04/2024 21:06

I bought both my sons a bargainous Playmobil set each, £15 for the hospital and £7.99 for the skate park! I was so pleased with myself, then DH opened the cupboard with them in and both children saw them so I had to give them to them for Easter 😐🙄

DH's turn next for DC present buying!

Bought MIL some beautiful winter gloves in the Jan sales.
DD2 - 2 Funko pops I found 4 that in think will soon be decommissioned I gave her 2 for her birthday and saving 2 for Christmas.

Thats it.

My older DDs are at a tricky age and can change their minds quickly so I’m going to have to be careful this year in what I buy in advance. Younger one has absolutely everything she wants and we’ve no room for anything else without getting rid of stuff, but it’s all relatively new things she has from last year. I think this year might be the year I ask for lots of suggestions.

DamnAllTheJellyfish · 21/04/2024 15:27

We are going to centre parcs for Christmas this year so my ds will have less presents to open. I was thinking of an expensive much wanted main pressie each (I mac and ps5) a few video games each, few board games each and books and clothes.

IcyLilacPoet · 21/04/2024 15:34

I always end up overbuying if i start too early 😫So I applaud your organisational skills OP!

Powderblue1 · 30/04/2024 06:12

I've got some Xmas lego sets for my eldest, not hubby for my youngest yet but have started an Amazon wish list.

Ordered my eldest the Home Alone lego house on vinted but turned out to be a scammer so waiting for my money back while they investigate 🤦‍♀️

OldTinHat · 30/04/2024 06:18

I've bought some craft kits, home fragrance sets and some Liz Earle stuff.

I've also bought all 'special' birthday cards for this year, written and popped the obligatory £20 in.

Personally, I get really anxious if I've not started buying in April!

OMGitsnotgood · 30/04/2024 22:12

I had a great idea for my dad and promptly forgot it. Have 8 months to remember it though.

I have a Christmas list in notes on my phone all year round. I add ideas as I think about them then revisit in November to decide whether still relevant. Particularly helpful for my ever hard to buy for DH. We were watching a quiz show on TV and DH commented he knew very little about one of the topics (he's otherwise quite a knowledgeable person). Book on said topic is on my list, always assuming he doesn't buy one meanwhile. Yes, only April but I find it helpful to listen out for possible ideas all year round. Some ideas will be used for birthdays instead.

Stompythedinosaur · 27/05/2024 00:11

I've just bought my first present - Hamilton tickets for my dds for 28th Dec.

I'll start picking up a few things a month from now on.

gardenmusic · 27/05/2024 09:01

I am leaving the big presents until nearer the time, as I cannot get them to focus this early (I have been focussing since boxing day).
I am doing the stocking presents, though, and collecting/stock taking bits for my decor.
I have started nice biscuits and chocolate, but I find it difficult to leave them alone!

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 16/06/2024 18:42

I have a teen DD with expensive make up tastes and a December birthday, so I have to start now!

I got some Clinique in boots, 3 for 2. I’m on the lookout for any make up offers from this point on.

gardenmusic · 16/06/2024 19:44

The clinique website does frequent offers.

SomeFiggyPudding · 16/06/2024 20:31

I’ve got stocking bits mainly - my youngest I’ll buy in advance but my older two are teen/preteen now so I’m saving monthly and will buy closer to the time when they actually know what they want.

ParrotPirouette · 16/06/2024 20:40

I’m quite pleased with the ‘butterfly garden’ I have for my 9 year old granddaughter. I try to limit the amount of pink plastic crap and it fits the bill nicely.

I always buy tickets for my nearest and dearest too. Experience over stuff these days for me ❤️

I think this year might be the year I ask for lots of suggestions.

So to add to my list

MILs Gloves, now I have a pretty notebook, pen and accessories bag.
DD2 - 2 Funkopops, tickets to Six plus hotel booked.
DD1 - limited edition Funko poo she’s been scouring the shops and events for. Another Funko pop, also hard to find ( got them off eBay and vinted), character sign of her favourite actress at the moment.
DD3 I have an abundance of clothes and toys, mainly Barbie clothing Minibrands and polly pockets. But it’s her birthday soon. What I don’t give her for her birthday will be kept for Christmas stocking fillers. I think come Christmas, this year will be hard for the “big” stuff as she has everything. She’s recently dug out her older sisters Our Generation dolls, so we might go that way.
Finally, 6 x £20 notes hidden in a draw DH can’t find for 3 teen DNs who also have birthdays around Christmas.

gardenmusic · 19/07/2024 18:45

Well, I have eaten all the Lindor. I am going to leave the next lot with a trusted friend.
Today I bought some nice crackers to put away, dates are good, and some lemon shortbread. I think they will be safe.
My brother likes a certain type of rum, which I have tracked down and ordered.
I need new cutlery. Mine is cheap Lakeland and pitting.

iambutachickenfinger · 19/07/2024 19:34

Oh please do share what you're putting in the Tim Burton themed stocking! I have someone who would absolutely love that, and whilst I'm a Tim Burton lover myself, I'm drawing an absolute blank due to the sheer amount of stuff she already has 😫
