Do you still have Christmas food left?

We still have:
One panettone
One stollen
One box of stollen bites
Half a box of a cheese board
Two boxes of crackers
Three boxes of biscuits
Four bottles of mulled wine

I am sick to the back teeth of all this. We ended up with far too much food because of the generosity of our guests who couldn't help but bring 2+ things despite being told that it was all in hand 😭

The DCs found a bunch of chocolate they forgot about tonight when I sent them hunting for their stockings to pack away. Other than 2 meringue nests and 1 box of brandy snaps everything is gone, i never go mad anyway but deliberately held back this year, only buying when necessary, even hosting I cut back and let others bring stuff.

LikeagoddamnVampire · 07/01/2024 23:31

I've just had a look in the fridge and we have some smoked salmon, cream and a tub of fresh cranberry sauce left. That's from New Year rather than Christmas though.

Also got some cheese left, need more crackers to finish it off.

I have a few chocs left, teen DC has a selection box he's not touched yet so I think he's forgotten it's there and DH still working through his giant toblerone and bag of pretzels.

Really need to do a shop for something with some vitamins in it soon!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/01/2024 23:36

Loads of cheese, Christmas cake, chocolate, and party food (which is in the freezer). DP’s been sick most of the holiday so our usual mid-afternoon cheese break hasn’t happened!

Maddy70 · 07/01/2024 23:37

A lot of cheese and cava is left

Chickydoo · 07/01/2024 23:38

Just a lot of chocolate. I'm not a big fan. Guests always seem to bring it.
DH hardly touches it. Even the one teen still at home isn't that bothered.
We have:
3 enormous toblerones 1 dark, 1 white 1 milk
2 large boxes of Ferraro Rocher
2 boxes of after eights
2 unopened tins of quality street
1 1/2 eaten box of quality street (grim things)
Some marzipan fruits
A couple of Lindt reindeer
A huge mixed box of Hotel Chocolate in a Christmas wreath thing.
Large bar of dairy milk
Box of chocolate biscuits and a bag of those German Leubeken (sp) things with a chocolate coating.
I am going to take the lot (bar the opened quality street) to our local food bank.

A bit. But Christmas only ended on Friday.

There’s some cheese, we bought more crackers for it.
There’s some pigs and stuffing in the freezer for future roasts.
There’s plenty of chocolate but that was gifts.
Oh and a roulade in the freezer.

There’s about 2 slices Christmas cake left (homemade). It has so much brandy in it it would survive for decades.

I’m on the last bottle of wine and there’s soft drinks we will store for Easter as hosting that.

We got it about right in the end. Cost an absolute fortune though - just under £900 for food and a lot of booze. Yikes. That’s about 1/3 more than last time we hosted which was 2018 (we had a year off in 2019 as had a newborn and then Covid wrote off 2020-2022).
Fortunately my Dad pays a substantial proportion of it. Thank you Dad!

PickAChew · 07/01/2024 23:42

A tin of biscuits a d the mince.pies that the menfolk keep replenishing on sale. I can't eat them so they don't bother me.

I do crack myself the odd nut. I like having nuts in their shells on hand.

There's bits of turkey, duck and some stuffing and a pack of pigs in blankets in the freezer.

ODFOx · 08/01/2024 00:39

There is nothing 'Christmassy' left. There is, alas, a metric tonne of food bought 'for Christmas', although it is just 'ingredients, not real food' as my DC used to say when they were ravenous teens.
My first greengrocer order of the year has been put back to 26th of the month, and the first butcher and Tesco order are booked for 20th, only because we'll have guests then.

RoseMartha · 08/01/2024 00:43

Chocolate
Cheese
Crackers

Lysianthus · 08/01/2024 01:01

A large pannettone and half a jar of mincemeat. It will make a fab bread and butter pudding

Meadowfinch · 08/01/2024 01:36

A large lump of stilton which I'll use to make several batches of soup, and half a tub of ginger ice cream.

I love the week between xmas and new year. I don't shop, I just adapt the contents of the fridge.

coxesorangepippin · 08/01/2024 01:51

Cheese can be made into a big cheese sauce and frozen in portions

OneStepOn · 08/01/2024 01:57

Yes
Christmas chocolates- a tub of mixed up brands - everything from bags of maltesers to unwrapped dairy milk- chucked it all in and hoping it goes by the end of this week

2 Christmas cakes - one gifted, one bought

1 box mince pies

Loads of booze.

SapphireSeptember · 08/01/2024 06:59

I always buy the Christmassy jams and chutneys from Sainsbury's, although there was only one chutney I hadn't tried this year. I've got four jars of jam, (two of each flavour, plum and mulled wine, strawberry and champagne,) two of marmalade, (blood orange and ruby grapefruit,) and two of chutney, (spiced plum and port.) They'll get used up over the year.
I've got most of a Christmas cake and an unopened one, three boxes of mince pies, a whole Christmas pudding, and some fancy cream from Sainsbury's again, I've got two vanilla with vanilla liqueur, one and a half of the salted caramel with caramel liqueur, and one gingerbread with spiced rum, (I ate the other one.)
And two jars of gingerbread mincemeat (Sainsbury's again) and two packs of lebkuchen i got from Aldi.
Oh, and two boxes of crackers (Jacob's savours selection boxes.)
I've also got stuff left from the Christmas before last! Need to eat that before it goes out of date, although again it's stuff in jars that'll last a while (some more mincemeat flavours, chutneys, and mulled wine cranberry sauce. That stuff is like gold dust! It always sells out so fast so I stocked up last year.) I eat cheese and pickled onions/beetroot/gherkins all year round, so I don't count those!

User236792 · 08/01/2024 20:13

Pop anything that doesn’t need to be refrigerated in the local foodbank collection area. No need to keep using up stuff you don’t want!

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 08/01/2024 20:30

A panettone, some bits in the freezer, that’s it. I cut right back on buying extras this year, nobody missed them or starved 😊

Desert76 · 08/01/2024 20:41

Yes, lots - it’s deliberate! We all love Christmas food. Most of what is left has quite long dates, so we can enjoy it at our leisure.

We only have one box of mince pies left, which everyone is very sad about, but at least we have a whole Christmas cake and a panettone to console ourselves with through the cold winter evenings.

AliasGrape · 08/01/2024 20:49

Some cheese although I did use plenty up on a giant cheesy pasta bake to take to a family gathering between Christmas and New Year so there’s less left than usual. I also used a Boursin up (again with pasta) last night - can’t believe that didn’t even get opened over the whole couple of weeks!

A box of crackers and some olive and Parmesan twists. Long dates so will get used at some point.

Couple of jars of chutney and some chilli jam - they just didn’t get touched this year and I don’t really know why (we used plenty the year before). However they have long dates on them, and will be fine for next Christmas probably if they don’t get used before.

3 boxes of biscuits - one I’d bought and forgotten about and a couple were given to us. However I’d done loads of baking with DD, and my MIL also sent us home with piles of sweet stuff after we’d visited Boxing Day, so we just didn’t get round to them. I’ll keep one and stick the others in the food bank collection.

Piles of chocolate - DD still has 3 full selection boxes, a chocolate Santa and some tubes of smarties, I have some left that I was given and I’d bought DH a giant toblerone as a stocking filler which he hasn’t touched yet. He also got various savoury snacks and nuts in his stocking - he’s made a good dent in them but I think there’s a few bits left.

Plus some booze - the wine and stuff we will just use over time or give away (it’s only really me that drinks it and I only drink at home at Christmas). There’s half a bottle of baileys left, really don’t think I could fancy it again at the moment but we will see. And half a bottle of advocat which is probably just going to be poured away sadly.

TheDandyLion · 08/01/2024 20:56

Sausagemeat stuffing balls and pigs in blankets in the freezer. Some cheeses in the fridge. Couple of slices of Christmas cake.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/01/2024 21:02

Small panatonne
Christmas Pudding (I;ll keep till next year)
Half a Christmas Cake (not marzipanned/iced )
Some Lindt chocolate
A few mini Sticky Toffee Puddings I made a froze

Didn't buy too much (certainly not a load of cheese Xmas Grin and no big tubs of Roses/QS etc )

TheseLegsDefinitelyUsedToBeLonger · 09/01/2024 08:42

APurpleSquirrel · 07/01/2024 23:09

Oh & the Christmas cake - which I still need to marzipan & ice 😬

Or you could say you are well ahead of the curve for Christmas 2024? Grin Xmas Grin

Peridot1 · 09/01/2024 08:48

@APurpleSquirrel - I marzipaned and iced last years cake this year. Still haven’t eaten it though!

@AliasGrape - Nigella did a ginger cake and Advocaat trifle dessert thingie on her Nigella’s Amsterdam Christmas programme. I found the recipe on line if you fancied giving that a go to use your advocaat?

Lobelia123 · 09/01/2024 08:58

Im at the end of the leftovers now, but I did have fun with using up the leftovers....We had cheese fondue with leftover fillet and potatoes; chicken breast stuffed with leftover blue cheese and wrapped with leftover salami and parma ham; pasta with leftover cheese and pigs in blankets etc

AliasGrape · 09/01/2024 09:11

@Peridot1 ooh that’s a good idea thank you!

Sgtmajormummy · 09/01/2024 09:16

Tonight we’re having the XMas pudding that nobody fancied on the day. Quick blast in the microwave and custard.
A few walnuts and dates and that’s it!
