Christmas set up with children

This year Christmas has been playing on my mind a little more than usual. I have a 4-5 year old and since he's been born we've done Santa gives one main present and we buy the rest... this year he has completely forgotten that, I'm wondering whether because it's his first year at school whether the other children think Santa brings everything but what do you all do?

Santa delivers all the presents but only the small stocking on the end of the bed is from santa. The rest is from who actually bought it.

KEG05 · 22/12/2023 07:33

I think this possibly varies a bit by region. I’m central belt in Scotland and I think most commonly the majority of oresents come from Santa although I do know a couple of people who do one present from Santa and the rest from parent.

We do a stocking of bits and pieces from Santa (choc coins, football cards, socks, small Lego etc) then everything else is from friends and relatives and under the tree as it arrives.

NigelTheCrab · 22/12/2023 10:02

None of our presents are from Santa. He's the delivery man.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/12/2023 10:04

Everyone will do something different and oddly most kids don’t clock that. We only do stockings from Santa- yet oddly my eldest always asks for big presents from him when we meet a Santa.

mynameiscalypso · 22/12/2023 10:06

I have a DS of the same age. He will have a stocking that comes from Father Christmas (well, a pillowcase I imagine). Most of those presents are quite small - books, little puzzles, a small Lego kit etc. He'll then get a main present from us as well as other bits and pieces from family. We'll make it quite clear which is from us and which are from Father Christmas.

OnMyHamptonWick · 22/12/2023 10:09

Santa brings stocking and a few gifts for under the tree. I go a bit overboard as my kids have no one else who gets them anything. If you ha e aunts and uncles and grandparents buying them stuff, your pile from Santa may well be smaller than mine.

lollydu · 22/12/2023 10:18

We do stocking and one main present from Santa and the rest from us. I don't want him taking all the credit and as they get older there's the issue of if everything was from Santa some children not getting anything at all and the inequality of it all.

Broodywuz · 22/12/2023 10:23

Santa brings most of the presents, a stocking plus usually 1 large/main gift like a bike or toy kitchen, unwrapped, plus 4/5 smaller wrapped gifts. I set these out in front of the fireplace for the kids coming down christmas morning.
Under the tree is a gift from mum and day (so it doesn't seem strange we wouldn't give them anything), a small gift to each other (we take each dd shopping separately to chose a present for her sister) plus any other presents from grandparents/aunts/uncles/friends etc. These just go under the tree as and when we get/wrap them

Atomickittyxx · 22/12/2023 10:29

Santa does the stocking and one present we do the rest plus gifts from family. Santa is not taking all the credit!! 😂

AtillaTheHon · 22/12/2023 10:33

Santa brings 3 x toys and a stocking in our house (which is most of the presents). We only have one believer left though

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 22/12/2023 10:43

Santa brings stocking, the other presents are from who they're from (us, grandparents etc)

OilyTussle · 22/12/2023 16:18

For us, Santa does stocking and the main present. Everything else is labelled with the person they are from, although DS will insist that all the presents from me and his dad are really from Santa!

bonusjonasus · 22/12/2023 16:30

Santa brings a sack full of presents. None are from us- presents from relatives are from them and separate from santas sack

WaitingfortheTardis · 22/12/2023 16:40

For us Father Christmas brings all the gifts we buy - a decent stocking and a main gift. Gifts from family etc are from the person who gave them.

Pistolpunk · 22/12/2023 16:41

When my DC were younger and believed in santa any presents from family and friends went straight under the tree so they got credit for their gifts. Things we bought were hidden and appeared on xmas morning from santa which was gifts and stockings.

RandomUsernameHere · 22/12/2023 16:43

The stocking is from Santa, which is one proper present and lots of small ones. Everything else is from us (or whoever is giving it).

We do a stocking of bits and pieces from Santa (choc coins, football cards, socks, small Lego etc) then everything else is from friends and relatives and under the tree as it arrives.

This is how I grew up and is therefore what I did for my kids.

SquigglePigs · 22/12/2023 16:56

DD is 5. Santa brings the stocking and one present under the tree. It's not a particularly big or splashy present like a bike or anything, just a normal one. This year it's a doll.

NigelTheCrab · 22/12/2023 10:02

This is the way we did it.

CountryCatLady · 22/12/2023 17:19

If I remember correctly Santa brought the stocking and all presents from mum and dad. So Santa got the credit. Then anything from grandparents aunts etc was from them. My mum used to sit and write a list of what I got from who so I could call and thank them later.

My step kids have been told that dad gives Santa money for making and buying the toys, and they write the letter to Santa. This includes stocking and then all presents this year it's a bike as the main one. But presents from my parents and uncles etc are all from the person sending them. Part of the idea of giving Santa the money is so the kids realise that they can't be asking for a real horse, an iPhone, Xbox and bike all at the same time and expecting it. Also I think it helps explain why some children don't get much from Santa

GenXisthebest · 22/12/2023 17:21

Santa brings the stocking and all the presents from me and DH. But any presents from other family members or friends come from them.

Needmorelego · 22/12/2023 17:26

I don't think children really think about it that deep. It's just a pile of presents and excitement to them.
I also don't think they will always understand what is the "main" present. You could get them a bike but the thing they will tell their teacher about is the "really cool rubix cube" that you bought from Poundland and was in the stocking.
Their brains probably don't think "That gift is from Santa but those gifts are from Mum and Dad. It's all just pressies.

mamatoTails · 22/12/2023 17:28

I've always told our children that mum and dad buy the gifts. They then get wrapped and sent to the North Pole. Father Christmas then delivers them on Christmas Eve, if they've made the nice list of course.
I also tell them every family is different, and do things in many different ways. It's all up to what the parents decide to do.

gotomomo · 22/12/2023 17:48

Only brings stockings here
