This has probably been asked 1000 times but can I see your full Christmas menu's please. Everything you plan to eat Christmas day and for your Turkey dinner (if you're having one)
We've had the idea of having our starters Christmas eve, melon and grapes for the kids, prawn cocktail for DH and I, then soup and nice bread. Full turkey dinner and desert christmas day with no starters but want to check I'm not missing anything off my list

OP posts:
KatBurglar · 12/12/2023 09:37

We gave up on starters for Christmas day because it's such a big meal we don't need it.

Tea/coffee with presents

Cooked breakfast after the presents are opened

Christmas dinner:
Beef Wellington
nut roast
beef gravy
onion gravy
roast potatoes
carrots
mashed parsnip
broccoli bake (family tradition)
pigs in blankets
extra large pizza for the one who doesn't like roast dinner

Choice of Christmas pudding, mince pies, meringues with cream or ice cream

Cheese board, patés and pork pies to snack on through the evening
ditto nuts, pretzels, biscuits

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 12/12/2023 09:44

Prawn cocktail ( super 80s)

Tomahawk steaks with lots of greens

creme brûlée for pudding ( we needed to blowtorch the steaks anyway)

cheese/fruit/olives for snacks

we do a brunch with pigs in blankets at about 10:30. Dinner is 3pm ish.

Winniespooh · 12/12/2023 09:51

I've not worked out what time we're having dinner yet but:

Normal breakfast (young children!)
Croissants & coffee mid morning
Collect parents & in laws
Nibbles & drinks
Turkey, pigs in blankets for meat eaters, nut roast & Quorn sausages for veggies. Roasties, Yorkshire's, red cabbage, other veg, stuffing.
Pudding is either chocolate tart from our local bakery or a little Christmas pud for DF and DFIL who are the only ones who like it.
Chocolates & cheese board
Drop parents & in laws off home
Crack open the wine & port and have a plate of leftovers.
Roll into bed, don't eat till midday Boxing Day as still full.

Humanswarm · 12/12/2023 10:01

No starters here as previous years it's just been too much. I like your idea of starters on Christmas eve!!

We coffee whilst sticking opening.
Bacon and croissants with Bucks Fizz/OJ once stockings are opened.

Lunch is around 2pm..Turkey, Gammon for the turkey haters. Pigs in blankets, sausage meat stuffing, roast potatoes, roast honey parsnips, carrots, sprouts, swede, red cabbage, I feel like I missing some veg but can't recall, turkey gravy.

Pudding is usually Christmas pud, old school vienetta for the kids, profiteroles...

Later, we have cheese, pate and left overs...

Oh..and copious amounts of wine/port/ whatever else..

OP posts:
Phonedown · 12/12/2023 10:38

Christmas tradition in our house dictates that I am brought a coffee immediately upon waking (usually because I have been panic wrapping or building gifts until 3 in the morning).

Some bacon rolls for brunch.

Dinner for 12 this year will be:

Starters:
Soup
Prawn Cocktail
Pate
Served with Crusty rolls

Mains:
Silverside Beef
Turkey
Ham
Stuffing
Roast Potatoes
Potato Croquettes
Pigs in Blankets
Carrots and Parsnips
Brussels and Bacon
Gravy

Desserts:
Trifle
Christmas Pudding

youngestisapsycho · 12/12/2023 10:53

No starter. Normal roast dinner with pig in blankets added for Christmas. Something chocolatey for pudding, no one except me likes Xmas pudding or mince pies.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 12/12/2023 11:01

Breakfast is usually toast with some ham or bacon, we have champagne while opening presents.

No starters as it is just too much food and there will only be two of us so no need to cater. If I was catering it would be prawn cocktail and / or soup with crusty rolls.

Roast Turkey
Stuffing
Chicken gravy
Roast potatoes
Roast Parsnips
Pigs in blankets
Yorkshires
Mash
Brussel sprouts

Christmas pudding with either custard or brandy cream / custard.

We eat about 1pm so evening 'meal' is usually just light and whatever we fancy.

linelgreen · 12/12/2023 11:02

We start the day with champagne and a light breakfast usually croissants, brioche, assorted fruits whilst we open presents.

Then the main dinner about 2pm

Starter - a large seafood platter smoked salmon, lobster, prawns etc as well as a charcuterie platter with cured meats served with warm breads - I find it easier to do a sort of help yourself starter when catering for larger numbers.

Main - Traditional Turkey, Roast Ham and also a large Beef Wellington fortunately (as yet) there are no vegetarians this year!! I will do roasties, pigs in blankets (already made and frozen about 80 of these ready to cook), dauphinoise potatoes and new potatoes, parsnips, cauli cheese, carrots, sprouts, red cabbage and although not traditional we have yorkshire puddings.

Desserts - Xmas pud, St Clements trifle, Chocolate and Chestnut Log with flavoured and plain cream and custard to accompany.

I then set out a cheese buffet with crackers and fruit that we can all graze on.

Later in the evening I slice and plate any leftover ham and turkey with french bread if anyone wants any more food.

maddiemookins16mum · 12/12/2023 11:10

Tea and coffee when first up
Christmas Tree crumpets and toasted nice bread with real butter and Christmas jams/marmalade
Church
After church - nibbles (so probably my prawn cocktail blinis)
Dinner - slow cooked redcurrant/Rosemary and garlic leg of lamb, Dolphinose potatoes, sprouts, red cabbage and carrots
Pudding - MIL’s amazing mincemeat and frangipane tart with cream/custard

Evening buffet of cold gammon
cheeses
salads
breads and crackers
chutneys
Christmas cake and Yule Log

A tub of Heroes.

GettingStuffed · 12/12/2023 11:10

Breakfast 1 mince pies
Breakfast 2 smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with a buck's fizz.

I absolutely love scallops but only ever have them at Christmas time at home. But I agree it's just too much food on Christmas day so I'll make them on Christmas Eve as a light dinner (we're out for a pub meal at lunchtime.)

Christmas Day

Breakfast of smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels. DDs normally just have butter on their bagels but this year they may actually try the salmon. Bucks Fizz to drink and orange juice for the little ones.

M&S extra chocolatey biscuits and cups of tea if anyone wants a snack mid-morning.

Christmas dinner at 1pm.
Turkey
Gammon
Roast potatoes
Honey roast parsnips and carrots
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Cauliflower cheese
Yorkshire puddings
Brussel sprouts
Gravy

Then a walk before it gets dark.

Christmas pudding and custard around 4pm.

If anyone is hungry later it tends to be turkey/gammon sandwiches. I don't cook again in the evening so people can just help themselves to what they want. There'll be cheese and crackers and chocolates on offer too.

Unmute · 12/12/2023 12:29

On waking - whatever goodies are in our stockings

Breakfast - bagels with vegan cream cheese and smoked salmon, orange juice

Dinner - this veggie sausage thing
No starter
All the sides: Bread sauce, roast potatoes, roast carrots and parsnips, cranberry sauce, fried shredded sprouts with pomegranate seeds for festive-ness, green beans, gravy, stuffing, glazed cocktail sausages.
Cider to drink

Trifle for pud.

In the evening we'll have nice bread and leftovers, mince pies and mulled cider.
