I’m mainly place marking because still working on it and stealing ideas.

im actually thinking of going off-piste as my family (us 4, DPs, DBro and his tribe) are getting together at my parents on Christmas Eve so have suggested to mum we do “proper” Christmas dinner then because I think then it’s just us 4 and my parents on Christmas Day and I want to order in a whole salmon and do a kind of slightly lighter take on the traditional meal.

Breakfast: pastries, berries and coffee
Starter: mushroom pate
Main: whole salmon, roast potatoes, roast Brussels with pistachios, roast cumin carrots, green beans
Pudding: undecided, might make a death by chocolate cake to offset the healthier main (little Xmas pud for dad who is the only one who likes it)
Tea: defo want to do a cheese board with crackers and crudités and fancy bread

And chocolate all day. Champagne then red wine and I want to get the Oat Nog drink for the evening

EDIT: going off piste because I’m vegan, DS is pesci, DPs refuse to do Xmas without some sort of animal component and this way I can make one meal for everyone (I’m taking a vegan main to mum’s on Christmas even because my brother and his wife are also pesci and mum wants to do beef so I’ll make enough for leftovers for me the next day)

WhatWouldJeevesDo · 23/11/2023 22:41

We have stollen instead of toast for breakfast. That is after cereal.
Dinner: Usually turkey, roast parsnips, squash, potatoes, green beans, stuffing, cranberry sauce
Either Christmas pudding or chocolate roulade for pudding.
Whatever you like for tea. It’s all a bit half hearted by then.

IncompleteSenten · 23/11/2023 22:52

Breakfast will be croissants and some sort of alcohol.

My mum and my sister and her family are coming over at lunchtime and everyone likes different things so I'm doing beef for my husband and one of our sons, chicken for our other son, salmon for our cat, lamb for me and my sister, a cheese pie for my mum, gammon for my brother in law, something in a packet for my niece and festive dog biscuits for her service dog.
I'll be doing basic veg cooked the civilised way 😁, plus revolting tinned sprouts for my sister and boiled to fuck veg for my mother.

Plus roast potatoes. Yorkshire puddings, stuffing, assorted gravies, pigs in blankets, honey glazed parsnips (I love you aunt Bessie)

Tesco will be providing puddings from their festive made to order range because I can't be arsed.

In the unlikely event anyone can eat anything else that day, there will be sausage rolls, nuts, crisps and chocolates available.

Drinks will be coffee, cola and a large amount of vodka.

KThnxBye · 23/11/2023 22:53

We don’t have breakfast or lunch on Christmas Day, same as Sundays.

Dinner begins between 4-5pm and lasts until 10-11pm.

Roast and all the trimmings, followed by a dessert trolley full of puddings and cheeseboard.

This year, rib of beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets, stuffing balls, mulled red cabbage, bacon, sprouts and chestnuts, honey carrots, broccoli, gravy, bread sauce, horseradish, cranberry.

Amaretti and apricot tart, baked new York cheesecake, set white chocolate mousse, pineapple with mint sugar, mince pies and a hefty chocolate Yule log this year. (Dessert trolley lasts a week!)

Parker231 · 23/11/2023 22:56

A day long cold buffet - no one really likes a roast dinner.

Lots of our favourite foods to eat as we chill out.

buonnatale · 23/11/2023 22:59

Breakfast: Frozen croissants/pain chocolat for breakfast, kids will probably have cereal as usual

Lunch: Roast rib of beef, roast potatoes, roast parsnips and carrots, cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets, savoy cabbage, possibly sautéed leeks and some rich gravy. Oh and homemade Yorkshire puddings.

Pudding: Will probably be eaten mid afternoon or Boxing Day but either chocolate torte or Tesco finest Xmas pudding with cream

Tea: Cheeseboard, sandwiches made with beef leftovers, crisps, pickled onions etc.

Drinks: Buck's Fizz or some other sparkling stuff in the morning, G&T's throughout the day, a good red with lunch, Bailey's in the evening and probably port with the cheese.

Macaroni cheese? Interesting.

I'm guessing @sparkedsparkle is of Caribbean background? Macaroni cheese seems to be a staple side dish for Caribbean roast dinners. And the rice too.

@jelly79 @Legoblockskillfeet

Ha apologies! I followed a Jamie recipe although I will say they categorically did not take over 2 hours!

Highly recommend though.

I'm intrigued by these! Will have to try them out.

Lunch - none

Dessert - Christmas pudding but not many will eat it as too full so we only get a small one.

BlueEyedPeanut · 23/11/2023 23:26

We have a fry up for breakfast.
Then a turkey dinner - mash, roasties, carrots, sprouts, stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce.
Strawberry gateau or shortbread and custard for after.
Supper is a cheese platter with crackers and biscuits.
Turkey sandwiches for the still hungry/greedy.
Selection boxes, tubs of sweets, and Ferrero Rocher get nibbled on throughout the day.

FelicityGraceSpoon · 24/11/2023 00:00

@Scruffington absolutely delicious without turning a roast potato into something it isn't!

Bbq1 · 24/11/2023 00:03

Oh drinks we have a selection of really nice alcohol free wine, spirits and lagers (as we don't drink alcohol ) plus Dr Pepper and coke available. I swear I am not making this "oh i am full after a mouthful, teeny tiny me" but looking at some of the fab menus on here, how do you guys manage to eat all that at Christmas dinner?!

SwordToFlamethrower · 24/11/2023 00:55

Croissants for breakfast and OJ

Roast pork and all the trimmings.

Done

GrumpyOldCrone · 24/11/2023 01:12

Probably bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese for breakfast.

Lunch is basically Prosecco and whatever cheeses I feel like buying.

Dinner for 10 of us, around 7pm: turkey, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, sprouts, peas, carrots, parsnips, turnip, and lots of gravy.
We don’t drink wine with Christmas dinner because we’re odd.

Dessert: Christmas pudding and, obviously, custard.

Later: more cheese if we can handle it; Pinot noir or Chardonnay.

Later still: port and whatever remains of the cheese. Also mince pies, shortbread and Christmas cake.

Sometime around 4 a.m. the teenagers will start picking at the turkey.
