No alcohol, no chocolate - and I don't like mince pies much

My daughter, who's hosting Christmas for the family this year, has just asked me what I'd like to have as treats and snacks whilst over at hers for a few days over Christmas.

Menopause has made me intolerant to alcohol and chocolate, and I'm not a huge fan of pastry, so the mince pie variations aren't goers either. What alternatives, that aren't plain fruit, can I suggest she has in for me?

I suppose there's cheese, but I want to have some sweet stuff!

Marzipan? Mince pies?

Balloonhearts · 13/11/2023 18:34

Wine gums
Pick n mix
Pear drops and aniseed twists
Massive fuck off bag of haribo

All Christmas staples in this house.

Deglet nour dates.
Cake, just not a chocolate one.
Toffees
Macarons

Dutch style butter cookies are my go-to Christmas time biscuits. Could eat a whole tin in an afternoon, quite frankly. Every supermarket does their own variant. All butter shortbread is the alternative, Walker’s being the peak brand.

Cake?

TeaKitten · 13/11/2023 18:36

And biscuits. There’s a world of sweet stuff that isn’t chocolate or pastry! Fancy biscuits and mini cakes all the way OP.

Orange semolina cake. Easy to make at home if your host can’t find a Greek or Cypriot store that sells it fresh.

CrushingOnRubies · 13/11/2023 18:37

Crisps, nuts, more savoury snacky bits

MissusNiceGuy · 13/11/2023 18:37

Dates
Turkish delight
stollen
Christmas cake
halva (if you like nuts!)

SkyFullofStars1975 · 13/11/2023 18:38

Mixed fruit and nuts
Dried fruits - my grandkids love dried mango and pineapple
Crackers and cheese

Alcohol I like in moderation, but not a fan of chocolate and mince pies. More of a savoury girl. But I do like a limited amount of crystallised fruit jellies or similar. And my mum introduced me to maple covered nuts... omg, heaven.

ChannelNo19EDT · 13/11/2023 18:42

walnuts, posh olives, hummous tortilla chilps, crisps, brie and grapes!
I can't cope with alcohol anymore either (age 53). Still like chocolate and pastry though. I'm thinking of trying to do Christmas without alcohol this year. I had a few drinks the weekend just before hallowe'en and I felt sick for 48 hours. I had a g&t and two fairly meagre wine bar measures of pinot grigio and it took two days before i felt right. I wondered why i did it to myself. If I could get through christmas xmas party on non alcoholic drinks I'd be so relieved. i might just try.

Apologies for the tangent.

If you want something a bit more pudding like how about meringue, shop bought ones , shells / swirls with fruit , fruit coulis, cream .
Like Eton mess type thing .

SisterMichaelsHabit · 13/11/2023 18:52

Bombay mix (or other mixes)? Cofresh Lemon and Chilli grills? Twiglets? Posh crisps?

If you've a savoury tooth, you don't have to eat sweet stuff to celebrate.

JobMatch3000 · 13/11/2023 18:54

Shortbread.

Load of lovely no alcohol Christmas drinks... M&s have a nice selection. I think even if you don't drink alcohol it's nice to have a more special drink
