Hi, I'm looking for ideas for a North pole breakfast. I've never done one before and in need of inspiration. Recipes, decorations, any ideas please. Pics if possible.

I’ve never done this either sorry but if you look on Pinterest there’s loads of ideas & you get the visuals too then

sexnotgenders · 08/11/2023 19:58

What fresh hell is this?!)

emerald1981 · 08/11/2023 20:00

@sexnotgenders 😂😂

vernatheraven · 08/11/2023 20:07

I want to do it too so watching for inspiration.

Can you make a house with waffles and dust it with icing sugar?

vernatheraven · 08/11/2023 20:08

I might make belvita biscuits with reindeer icing faces and antlers

vernatheraven · 08/11/2023 20:10

This looks good to go outside the waffle house

The nearest I got to the North Pole, our breakfasts involved reindeer salami, black bread (like pumpernickel), cheese and lots of coffee.
Not strawberries in December!

Cubic · 08/11/2023 20:13

@vernatheraven they look really good. The ones I've seen are just strawberries with cream in with the end cut off and used for a hat.

I’m looking for ideas too. So far I’ve found strawberry and banana slices shaped into a candy cane, homemade waffles with sprinkles, porridge with reindeer face from fruit etc., hot chocolate, grapes etc shaped into a Christmas tree, cookie cutter toast into various Christmas shapes.

AdaColeman · 08/11/2023 20:32

Ocado have got snowmen bao buns with coloured hats, and ice cream snowmen from Picard.
You could make fairy bread with glitter/sparkling sprinkles, maybe laid out in a star shape, or cut out stars with pastry cutters before buttering.

Combusting · 08/11/2023 20:34

I’m just here gobsmacked and semi admiring at the time energy and headspace people appear to have…

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/11/2023 20:36

Are you doing this on Dec 1st?
School aged DC or pre-school?

I started a new Tradition last year of a Big Brunch on the earliest Friday in Dec, this year Dec 1st is a Friday Xmas Grin .

What about Christmas Tree crumpets (?Asda)
Or pancakes cut into shapes , with Nutella or syrup . Add bananas .

One year I made up milkshakes in those little glass milkbottles and chilled .
Those little boxes of cereal (There wasn't North Pole Breakfasts when mine were little but it's a sweet idea )

Almondmum · 08/11/2023 20:39

This is probably the only ott Christmas thing I did with my kids - well, still do, they're teens and love it still.

I made it easy on myself though. I bought Christmassy crockery and tablecloth. I made the strawberry and banana candy canes as mentioned upthread but otherwise it was just treats for breakfast so shop bought pastries/waffles, smoothies etc etc rather than making anything fancy

Bluejellybean23 · 08/11/2023 20:44

I’m thinking of doing is Christmas Eve for toddler and preschooler (this isn’t an Elf on the shelf household, nor Xmas eve boxes etc) so just feels like a special treat now my 4 year old actually understands and feels excited for Christmas for the first time properly.

Cubic · 08/11/2023 20:45

Thanks all @Almondmum I think your right on the making it easy and that will be the way to go.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget my children are teens but one has complex needs and it's the first time he's really been excited in the build up/ recognised what's happening. So I'm trying to make it as memorable for him as I can. I'm looking at Sat 2nd with the Christmas tree going up that afternoon.

I think it's a lovely tradition for those with younger kids and wish I'd done it previously.

Another idea is a Christmas tree shaped cake make from a bought Pandoro.
It's quite quick to do, you just slice the cake horizontally into thick (about 2cm) even slices, and re assemble it with the points alternating on each slice.
Spread a filling such as cream, Nutella or lemon curd on each slice as you build it, to hold it together.
Decorate with glacé cherries, sugar balls, fruit or sweets, and finish with a dusting of icing sugar or edible glitter.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/11/2023 21:20

Ah the reason why I'm asking about ages is if they were school aged then getting it all ready , eaten and off to school on a Friday is hard work.
Little ones you have more time but it'd be smaller pieces .

My DC are adults so DD loves the brunch ( we're vegetarian except DS)
DS will eat cheese on toast but not brunch ( he's very plain with food /

I did it last year then we all went to the conema (Violent Night very funny but not for children as the name suggests ) it was a lovely day so I'm keen to repeat it . Xmas Grin

Pistolpunk · 09/11/2023 00:00

I do a xmas themed afternoon tea and movie day. Basically set the table all posh and do sandwiches, sausage rolls, salads etc and xmas cake and mince pies

Strawberries in December aren’t a treat - they’re hard, tasteless and an environmental nightmare.

We do a Christmas themed breakfast on dec1 with a nicely set table, our collection of mismatched Christmas dishes and tableware. My poor deprived dc get mini boxes of sugary cereal instead of their usual porridge, juice even though it’s not the weekend, and a mince pie. We open advent calendars and everyone wears their Christmas jumper over their pjs and grumbles that it’s too early. And I say it’s revenge for waking me up early on Christmas morning.

It’s fun, a little bit of effort but easy to repeat year on year which is so important. Definitely not very Instagramable though.

What fresh hell is this?!)

Thinking the same!

So glad DC are teenagers, they don't care about a possible glitzy breakfast their friends have. Or Christmas eve boxes fot that matter.

gotomomo · 09/11/2023 08:35

@Ylvamoon

So pleased none of this was a "thing" 20 years ago when mine were preschoolers. Honestly just enjoy the simple things in life with your kids, don't push yourself too much, the stress to keep up must be unbearable.

Asda have Christmas tree shaped crumpets and last year I saw snowflake shaped pancakes - they really won't care it's not homemade

FusionChefGeoff · 09/11/2023 09:14

We use grandmas Christmas tablecloth, Christmas plates / glasses and then sometimes treats / sometimes fancier - reindeer pancakes were my favourite.

Also give them either Xmas PJs or slippers or jumper so can use all December

Bluejellybean23 · 09/11/2023 09:20

The thing is, I enjoy baking and doing bits like that so isn’t seen as stressful to me. It’s just a fancy breakfast really and something I know they will love. I just think if people want to do the Xmas eve boxes, elf etc and it makes them and their family happy then why not. If the pressure is too much and it becomes stressful and not enjoyable then I agree it’s not worth it.
