Oodies? Worth the money?

Lovemusic82 · 02/11/2023 14:09

We have fake oodies but they don’t seem to last very long, DD’s is from primark and mines from dunelm, both have holes in them/stitching come undone etc..

I hate buying things that don’t last (not good for the environment) so I’m happy to pay a bit more money if it’s going to last a few year. Are the real oodies worth the money? I know some are £39 at the moment so I’m tempted to buy one for dd2 and me for Christmas.

I have two and my partner has one. Have had two of them since last Christmas and one from the year before and they're all still going strong. Granted the fleecy material inside doesn't stay so fluffy after numerous washes, but they're still as cosy as they were on day 1 and no stitching is coming away. Absolutely worth every penny imo!

BarborousBarbra · 02/11/2023 14:12

The real ones are so much better than the fakes ( I have a couple of fakes and one real one). Actual oodies are a million times warmer and as long as you follow the care instructions will last for ages.

Thehumiliatedfish · 02/11/2023 14:13

Yes, mine is 3 years old. Granted, I don't wear it constantly. But it's thicker and fluffier than any knock off I've seen.

Comefromaway · 02/11/2023 14:13

I bought real ones (but seconds) last year and despite the faults on them they are way better than the fakes.

I wouldn't pay full price for them though.

Ovaltiner · 02/11/2023 14:16

Not in my experience. My DC have moved from them as they have lost the 'fluffiness', despite following washing instructions to the letter. They are also a pain to wash and dry and are hardly worn now (but take up loads of space).

The ones I got from dunelm two years ago, however, are universally loved by them all. And still marvellously soft.

Lovemusic82 · 02/11/2023 14:16

Thank you. I think I will buy them. I wouldn’t pay full price but £39 each seems reasonable.

I have a Primark one and an official Oodie. You can’t compare them - the Oodie is miles better!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 02/11/2023 14:19

Two christmasses ago I bought my daughters one each (prompted by my middle daughter who lives in Australia, where the Oodie was HUGE that year). They both absolutely live in the Oodies in winter, they've washed and worn well ever since, so I'd say the Oodie is well worth the money.

Wish I'd bought one for me too...

SpringingJoy · 02/11/2023 14:19

Ours were £13 from ebay, worn daily by teens and are still in excellent condition after over 2 years. Pretty indestructible and stain proof despite being washed AND tumbled to death.

Based on my experience with the knock off versions I couldn't bring myself to shell out for a 'real' Oodie!

Mayhemmumma · 02/11/2023 14:20

My oodie is only a couple of months old but I absolutely love it! Makes living in a cold building site bearable.

Lovemusic82 · 02/11/2023 14:22

I am thinking it will save me money in the long run as I won’t need to put the heating on as much 🤣. Dd loves her fake one but they just don’t last so I would rather pay a bit extra for better quality. They will get used a lot.

I could never afford one at full price and used to think they were ridiculously expensive, but my mum got me one for Christmas and I've changed my mind.

They are so much better than any other I've had. Really heavy and warm.
I think they are definitely worth it for £39

ChickpeaPie · 02/11/2023 14:24

The M&S kids ones are lovely

curlyLJ · 02/11/2023 14:25

My daughter has a Kudd.ly one, which has lasted over 2 years and still really fluffy and in great condition. They are often on offer too.

reallydontlikeit · 02/11/2023 14:26

I wear mine when WFH so I don't need the heating on. Only removed it if I need the camera on zoom when speaking to clients.
Definitely worth the money

Namerequired · 02/11/2023 14:38

I have a fake one I love but decided to buy the real deal last year. It’s night and day, but it’s nearly too much. It’s big, heavy and really warm. I love it now though. It’s currently in the wash so I’m loving it less atm at the thought of getting it dry

Daffyyellow · 02/11/2023 14:52

I bought DDs real Oodies, there was a deal, probably buy 1 get 1 half price. They are nearly 2 years old, still fine, washed frequently. Last winter I bought Tesco’s equivalent, about £13 each on offer and they are just as good. I have a £25 Amazon equivalent, it’s unlined without sleeve cuffs but longer, I prefer it to the Oodie.
All have been worn well, washed lots and are lasting well. The Oodies were much more expensive. Which is best is personal preference.

DeadButDelicious · 02/11/2023 14:54

I just got a black one for £39 and I love it! It's so toasty and warm, I've had fake ones and the oodie is so much better. I'm seriously considering getting another while they are on offer

Workawayxx · 02/11/2023 14:54

Yes, drf worth it. I got ds one when they were first out - maybe 4/5 years ago? It’s still really soft and cosy and he wears it loads still. I also got him an adult one (he was about 7) so it’ll fit him forever.

MabelMoo23 · 02/11/2023 20:26

I’ve got one and it’s fab. Love it

MB4123797451 · 02/11/2023 20:28

We love our oodies. So warm and cosy. All been washed many times - we wash with silk/wool washing liquid in a cold wash and they come up incredibly soft and just like new.

Stropalotopus83 · 02/11/2023 20:30

Has anyone tumble dried them? I was going to buy one for DD for Christmas but care instructions say do not tumble dry. I'm not sure how else I'd dry it through the winter as so chunky. Just wondered if anyone had tumble dried them?

erinaceus · 02/11/2023 20:33

@Stropalotopus83 Mine dries quickly enough hanging up, they’re made of something synthetic that dries quickly.

Mine was a gift last winter and has been washed and worn quite a bit and is still going strong. As others have said the lining loses its fluffiness a bit but it’s still soft and toasty warm.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 02/11/2023 20:35

I have a kuddly and an Oodie. I much prefer the kuddly, personally. It's longer and feels warmer. I also have a cheap one from Amazon, I only find that useful for the slightly nippy evenings not when it's really cold. I'm buying some as gifts and the kuddly is much better.

Ahh ok then - might order her one while they are on offer. Wash just concerned it would stay damp for ages! Thanks x
