In message two are the links and info from last year - if anyone has anything they'd like me to amend or add, please do tag me and I'll update.

A reminder not to post affiliate links in the thread but that MN do change amazon links shared by posters into MN affiliate links.

Has anyone bought those socks where you can put your cats face on them? I'm looking to buy 3 pairs and I'm shocked that they're about £15 each! Any recommendations please?

Have you tried Funky Pigeon? They do them for £9.99.

DangerousMouse · 22/10/2023 21:56

Ooh thank you, I'll check out Funky pigeon, that's the cheapest so far

just had a request for white fox hoodie, what's the cheapest way of buying one, please?

thank you

you just missed the 30% off so maybe sign up their mails and keep eye on black friday?

mum2three48 · 22/10/2023 22:42

GHD have 20% off certain products with blue light discount. I know they are popular with teens

Borris · 22/10/2023 23:09

Thanks for the book suggestions. My Amazon basket is bulging.

Does anyone have any experience with ice cream makers? Can't decide whether it'll be a one hit wonder like the popcorn machine

Mentaldays · 22/10/2023 23:10

@Claramay78 the cheapest way to get a white fix hoodie at the moment is to sign up for newsletter and get a 20% off code. I think you can get Top Cash too.
GIFT15 gives 15% off
I would be cautious waiting for the next big promotion as the hoodies are in and out of stock fast

DutchTeenyPixie · 22/10/2023 23:21

@WhereTheresAHill is the lakeland code still available for PM please?

Mentaldays · 22/10/2023 23:23

@Borris i got a set of the Murder Most Unladylike books on Vinted for a fraction of the Amazon price, with a look

lingmerth · 22/10/2023 23:27

Anyone recommend a decent flask. DH uses one when he goes fishing but knocked it into the lake he was fishing on! Currently using a chilly bottle but would prefer a flask.

Smileatthesmallthings · 23/10/2023 00:01

@Borris I got an ice cream maker a few years ago for my birthday. I do like it but I definitely don't use it as much as I should. It's quite big and needs to be stored in the freezer for 24hr before you can make ice cream so you can't do it on a whim unless your freezer isn't stuffed with yellow stickered bread products has space. I also haven't tried any of the custard based recipes so mine have been pretty limited flavour wise but there's no real reason why. Saying that, I did have a look at the very expensive ninja one last week..

Real life shopping today. Some children's 'Oodies' were reduced to £5 in Primark, although sizes were limited. Mostly XS and a few XL. XS fitted my 2.5 year old and my almost 11 year old has plenty of growing room in the XL.

As well as the extra 40% off sale prices, Smiggle had a stand of 5 for £5. Lots of pens, rubbers, key rings, slap bands etc.

Stripedfluffysocks · 23/10/2023 01:20

Ladies I’ve to buy sweets/chocolate/sweet treat for around 50 children.

The cost has to be under £1 each, preferably less than that - 50/75p each.

Very few packets of sweets are £1 now even in the pound shop.

I’m amazed at the cost of basic sweets, I’d really love these kids to get something decent if not a wow factor.

What are other groups doing about this type of thing this year?

Hermittrismegistus · 23/10/2023 03:10

@Igglepiggleandhisboat I have a £7 off a £75 spend at Argos. Not sure if it's account specific but if you want to try it just send a pm.

PopcornAndGummyBears · 23/10/2023 04:50

@Stripedfluffysocks tesco usually has an offer on chocolate oranges at some point in the lead up where they are £1 each and then also on 3for2, making them 66p each. That’s when I usually buy them. No idea when it happens though - perhaps around the start of December in previous years? Of course they might not do it this year, or might have a starting price of £1.50 rather than £1 making it less of a bargain, but they’ve done it the last 3/4 years

This is off topic sorry, but for anybody looking for kids gift ideas, Busy Toddler has updated her Gift guide
it goes up to age 9+ and includes a section on stocking fillers, art supplies, gifts by age… I find her so inspirational. She’s American though, so think the links will be off (sadly, as I would gladly support her storefront)

Little bargain hunter flagged up these Jixels for £2.99 - the robot set is reduced too

Someaddedsugar · 23/10/2023 07:11

@Stripedfluffysocks what's your overall budget? Could you bulk buy some tubs of sweets and a big bag of millions and make some sweet cones yourself? They'd have more of a wow factor? Or a hot chocolate cone like this thiss* one on Etsy? They can't be that expensive to make if you could buy a big tin of hot chocolate and a giant bag of marshmallows. You can get 100 bags with ties for less than £5 on Amazon, and you could get some Christmas stickers to go on them.

chocolateisavegetable · 23/10/2023 07:20

@Stripedfluffysocks Asda do a Cadbury selection box for £1 (wondering if somewhere might have these on offer at some point) or a net of chocolate coins for 75p

Does anyone know if fairfax and favour do sales or discounts etc please. I've never shopped there before and mil would like a purse.

They do have sales, you need to sign up to a mailing list to get notification and early entry to sales. They also advertise the sales on Instagram and Facebook and how to access the early entry too.
Usually the sale items tend to be the seasonal colours.
They do reduce items further as the sale progresses, but you have to take the risk of the item you wanting not being in stock (as with all sales really).

I once won a voucher for £125 for fairfax and waited for the sale and got the item I wanted without paying a further £100 for it - shoes !!

Cubic · 23/10/2023 08:28

@MumVUnicorns thank you and wow! Well done on the competition and shoes.

Honeyandwine · 23/10/2023 08:50

@Stripedfluffysocks would second the idea of sweet cones. Teacher here and that's what I do. You can turn them into reindeer sweetcones if they are for Christmas. Aldi are also good for sweets- they do dinosaur chocolate or Christmas chocolate lollies. I also do candy canes sometimes.

Yes, me! I used a company called Pawwsy - Looking at my order, they were £13.99. I also got a mug. Postage was free. The socks come up a bit small - so go with adult sizing would be my top tip. Otherwise, they were fantastic and much loved!

Yeahas · 23/10/2023 09:30

@Stripedfluffysocks I made sweet kebabs as party favours for my daughter's birthday party. They were a big hit and didn't cost much each. I stocked up on sweets from Home Bargains.

Shrubbyelk · 23/10/2023 09:33

Just been to my local Sainsbury’s. No Lego 🙁 They have the Magic Mixies lantern, original price was £70. This is on sale everywhere for £45, priced at £24 but is scanning as £20.
