I would like a honest opinion do these pricing look fair or they are taking me for a mug. I thought we would hire a Christmas decorators to decorate our home thinking it would be practical to have a company set it up and take it down.

Omg 😱 some of the comments are pretty savage.
I absolutely do not intend to spend 7.5k on Christmas decorations thank you!
I am heading to primark 😳

I went into B&M today for a new bath mat. I can report that their Christmas decorations are in!
I may have bought some

Fallingthroughclouds · 11/09/2023 23:53

Absolutely insane. I'd rather make snowmen out of Rudolph's feces and hang razor wire instead garlands for that sodding price. Get yourself down to Home Bargains.

Pallisers · 11/09/2023 23:55

Wow what a lot of money.

My sil and bil did this for halloween one year. They are deeply in debt as it turns out.

Wowokthanks · 12/09/2023 00:00

Wow, I think we're living in different worlds OP,
If you can afford it, go for it!
We always argue in our house putting the tree up and taking it down!

I won't read further because I don't want my hopes dashed of someone having a really, really fancy Christmas decoration set up....

Moveoverdarlin · 12/09/2023 00:08

All that would look totally ridiculous on a bog standard house. If you had the type of house that could pull it off I would just go for the front door garland and the fireplace garland. £550 for a professional garland for the front door is pretty reasonable. Think - a bride’s bouquet would be about £300 nowadays and you would have a team of people constructing it and you could leave it up for all of December and first week of January. Only the super wealthy (flashy wealthy not posh wealthy) would dream of spending 7k on Christmas decorations that you don’t even get to keep.

Suddenlysolo · 12/09/2023 00:33

like anything else - get a couple more quotes. Then you’ll have your eye in on market standards / will be able to negotiate sensibly if you want to

Lavenderandbrown · 12/09/2023 01:06

Do you have children op? My sons friends mother had someone come in and decorate her house/tree quite beautifully. I commented/complimented the tree while at their front door. Her son quite emphatically said…yea it doesn’t count my mom didn’t even do it and the angel belongs on the top. He was about 12 but recognized authenticity. Here’s my less is more tree..

Lavenderandbrown · 12/09/2023 01:09

my less is more tree (second try to post)

What the fucking fuck haha I will decorate your house, take it down, dress up as Santa and sit in your selected area 9-5, £5k for 2 weeks 😂😂 xx

😂

I've no idea about what these things cost. I've only seen professional decorations in my old workplace and hotels.

I despise putting up decorations (and taking them down) so if money is no object why not?

I am guessing that signing a four year contract means the annual charge is reduced so the fee for one year is more like 9K without a contract?

Just a normal Inglewood but somehow autocorrect changed it.

AldiDupes · 11/09/2023 22:36

What's his number?

Asking for a friend, obviously.

Errr I was offered Crackhead Tom first.

A Crackhead Tom is for life, not just for Christmas - you can have him for Valentines Day.

PoliticallyIncorrectHitchling · 12/09/2023 08:01

I will do it for half that amount, Lol

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 12/09/2023 08:02

It is a reasonable cost when you consider the costs for the business. Whether it is good value depends on your needs...

  • Purchase the premium Christmas decorations on an ongoing basis for fashion changes and replace broken, damaged, dirty decs
  • Staff cost for setting up
  • Staff cost for taking down
  • Transport of items both times
  • Hire/purchase of ladders etc. Indoors and out
  • Year round storage when not in use
  • Cleaning and maintaining the decs
  • Insurances
  • Business costs for management of the above, PR, advertising, training and development, including health and safety, working at height.

And that's just what I can think of now.

Those balking at the price need to get real.

Speedweed · 11/09/2023 21:38

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee I know times are tough and all, but I think pimping out your husband might be against MN site rules? 😂

Fifteen hundred for DP and I'll throw the cat wearing a Christmas hat in for free.

NannaKaren · 12/09/2023 18:33

I’ll do it for 5k ❤️🎄🎅

Hidinginplainsightnow · 12/09/2023 18:39

You’ve got to be joking. Do the decorations yourself. If you have this kind of money to burn, give it to a Christmas charity.

Ho Ho Ho

Clarityiskey · 12/09/2023 18:45

You must be absolutely loaded/ stark raving bonkers. Oh, and just to add- given that Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus, maybe a better use of that money would be to donate to a charity for children/adults with nothing. I can barely believe the OP is for real, and am genuinely shocked.

etcher70 · 12/09/2023 18:46

Continue with mad indulgent decorations, or....
Dial it down (Christmas is only one day) and donate the remainder to a food bank for people who really need it.

This is a spoof, right??

twoboystwodogs · 12/09/2023 18:54

Goodness I am clearly in the wrong job - next venture - Christmas Decoration Decorator 😉

Sworntofun · 12/09/2023 18:55

You have money to burn 🙄 Lucky you
Pity you’re so obsessed with Christmas. How about do half of that excessive decorating and donate the rest of the money to a good cause. ( hopes)

Sadnangry · 12/09/2023 19:06

Where are you based?

Terloz · 12/09/2023 19:12

As a pp has said, this is a business/high end consumer service. The target market isn’t a normal home. The prices are inline with catalogues I have been shown at the company I work for. The idea is no effort/safe installation and removal/a new look every year. To be honest, even for businesses I find it a bit of a distasteful use of money.
