Advent Calendars

Sorry to start this thread in August (in fairness it is nearly September) but I can't see one yet! I enjoyed the one last year.

Has anyone started thinking about which product advent calendar they want? I'm thinking of getting my husband the Elemis one. We get each other one every year as a surprise ☺️

We've also had the Degustabox before, as a shared family AC. It's so much fun, although I'll be honest and admit that not everything gets used - a full sized bottle of Hellman's gravy flavoured mayo was a surprise!

Has anyone had Treatbox before? What sort of contents?

It was Coffee beans. I found it on Etsy. I can’t remember the name, but it was good 🙂
He is a tough bloke to buy for. No alcohol because he’s an alcoholic (4 years sober), nothing with sugar due to his diabetes and we’re both vegetarian, so nothing with meat. As for tools, he’s a good DIYer, but has everything already!

@AnnieSnap

I'm a vegetarian diabetic (I low carb to keep it under control) so totally get it. Your DH is doing really well years sober!

Does he like to garden? There are some seed ones?

@Gazelda

i guess that would be intended for the cold Turkey sandwiches.

ColeslawSandwich · 30/08/2023 10:03

@ChristmasCwtch what is in the Treatbox calendars? The website doesn’t give any spoilers so I can’t work out what type of products they sell. Thanks.

AnnieSnap · 30/08/2023 11:02

@NeedTheSeaside I didn’t know they had seed calendars. DH is the labour in the garden (which he likes), but I’m the plant grower.

Theraffarian · 30/08/2023 11:07

The Degusta one is available to pre order now , but I can’t find any working codes for it unlike the last couple of years .

I am going to get an old fashioned one with pictures

And lots of glitter, I hope 😀

Agreed. It's very pricey compared to previous years.

@ColeslawSandwich I saw the video they posted about last year’s calendar. Seems to be a mix of sweet treats and little gifts like socks, face mask, wax melts, pen, cute notebook…

Basically everything I like and never buy myself. I’m excited for the surprises.

ColeslawSandwich · 30/08/2023 14:15

Thanks @ChristmasCwtch that sounds right up my street!

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 31/08/2023 21:01

DH absolutely loved the Paxton and Whitfield cheese calendar last year. It was not cheap - big treat - but amazing if you like cheese. They delivered the cheeses in three tranches so they’d be fresh through the month and there was a good amount for each day with tasting notes.

Also good reviews for the Craft Gin Club one.

Hibernatalie · 01/09/2023 23:34

Im really tempted by this:

Also enjoyed the M&S beauty one last year. Still wearing the Clinique mascara.

I have made one for DD the past few years , she has quite sensitive skin and both her and I use only Cruelty Free so a load of them wouldn't work .
I either re-used a gift box or paper bags but it was hard work finding 23 things !

Last year I did a box on Dec 1st which she liked so doing that again this year .

I might look at the Holland and Barrett one , there's products to suit both our skintypes . I'd get at least 10 things for DD and the rest for me ( and yes it means opening it early Xmas Blush . There's often money off coupons too .

I won't do chocolate ones this year , did Hotel Chocolat last year and before that a Cadbury 'house' both a bit meh .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/09/2023 01:02

24 things even ( I didn't cheat her out of a day ) Xmas Wink

Oh wow, me too now, great suggestion, thank you!

Stompythedinosaur · 02/09/2023 20:29

@AnnieSnap where did you get the beard oil advent calendar from, please?

I have to confess to having a problem with advent calendars, and I both fill one for my dds and buy them one. I'm thinking about a beauty one this year if I can find out reasonably priced (they are 10 and 12 so more at a stage of playing around with make up than wearing it seriously).

I've already bought myself a 12 day advent calendar of felt decoration animals, and will also get a picture calender later.

Last year I really enjoyed a Sherlock Holmes calendar with a puzzle on every day that was recommended on here.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 02/09/2023 22:14

My Lakrids (liquorice) got delivered this morning Smile

Awittyfool · 02/09/2023 22:29

God I love the idea of a liquorice advent calendar but the Lakrids one is sooooo dull. Over designed packaging ( which is what's costing £50) aimed at I'm too cool for Christmas. Where's the warmth?
sorry. Not to piss on your Christmas chips. Stay excited. It was just a warning to others.

AnnieSnap · 02/09/2023 22:35

@Stompythedinosaur It was from a shop called ‘Mankind’. I bought it online last year, but they do have shops.

AnnieSnap · 02/09/2023 22:43

@Stompythedinosaur sorry it should be ‘Menkind’

Stompythedinosaur · 02/09/2023 23:57

@AnnieSnap thank you!

rosieredhead · 13/09/2023 11:34

The Pretty Little Thing beauty calendar is now available for any older teens, £48 and previous years have been really good.
PLT advent calendar

mostlysleepy · 14/09/2023 11:46

I'm ordering the Naked Marshmallow advent calendar again this year as a gift, just looking for one for myself, maybe a stationery one?

Crackery · 17/09/2023 09:39

Any bargainous gin ones around? Perhaps by aldi/ Lidl/ other cheap place?

Alargeoneplease89 · 29/09/2023 09:06

Anyone have any ideas on an advent for a DD11 (not into make up, likes crafts, quirky things, creative) got her brother a £40 coding one because of MN so need something the same price range
