Quality Street

I am dreaming of the Quality street already 😁 it is after all only a once a year treat!

I normally just pick up a tub or 2 from the local supermarket but I’ve just been browsing Amazon and wonder if it works out better to buy a huge tub/box? but I’m a bit overwhelmed with the choice of supplier and unlike the supermarket that let you know the price per unit, 100grams, Amazon don’t seem to do this - anybody have somewhere good that they buy from and can recommend?

I bought a huge tub last year from Costco. Was honestly sooooo big and relatively cheap. It was around November time.

1stepforward2stepsback · 22/08/2023 17:35

Supermarkets tend to be cheaper than Amazon for stuff like that, especially if you wait until it’s on special offer.

Ichabodandme · 22/08/2023 17:54

Thanks both , I thought that might be the case.

I unfortunately I don’t have a Costco card but I’ll will wait until later in the year and try the supermarkets.

I only like one Quality Street and its the Blue Coconut one, and this has just reminded me to tell my husband to get ready to order my Christmas personalised tub full of just the blue ones 😋😋😋

Really disappointed with Quality Street in the last few years - they just don’t taste anywhere near as nice. We always used to buy them to hang on the tree but not any more.

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 22/08/2023 18:21

They are currently £4 for a 600g tub in tesco with a clubcard (which is about 67p per 100g

The 2kg box on amazon works out at £1.59 per 100g

Aria20 · 22/08/2023 18:28

If you have a big John Lewis near you, you can get a customised quality street tin and only put in the flavours you like - we had a whole tin of strawberry and orange creams and green triangles Grin

They've been disgusting for a good few years. So disappointing.

Thanks for that - that’s a big difference!

I bought a small box of Roses for a family member recently and was so disappointed that I was hoping that Quality Street would be better.

I am old enough to remember Quality street in the huge tins and when they really were special!

When I ws a child they felt like the ultimate luxury. I think tastes change because now I wouldn't thank u for one. Not even the big purple- my childhood favourite.😫

derrydee · 22/08/2023 18:37

Agree - we bought some last year and they were borderline inedible! I think I'll go for miniature heros instead

Lagershandy · 22/08/2023 18:54

M&S do a box of assorted milk chocolates which I now buy instead of Roses or Quality Street, I think they are called The Big One in a tall red box and they cost £5.

The sad thing is some of my Christmas memories are tied to the excitement of opening the tins of Roses and QS, but the contents are now so rank I refuse to buy them.

I was just looking at these but wasn’t sure that the selection would suit everyone. However, there a good price and certainly worth a try.

Anyone else miss the old foil wrappers too? They just don’t seem the same in plastic.

Did Quality Street get gross or did we all get more choosey about our chocolate?

Last year, we had a box that hung around in the office forever. Would not have happened if it had been Ferrero Roche.

mondaytosunday · 22/08/2023 19:14

Ooo @Aria20 - I'm going to the US for Christmas and just might get one of those! We all have our favourites...

mondaytosunday · 22/08/2023 19:15

Wait what @Ichabodandme?!? The foil wrappers were beautiful and so festive! We used to make little cups from them as kids.

Ichabodandme · 22/08/2023 19:17

@Aria20 that sounds perfect! 😄

QS are moving onto paper wrappers , losing the plastic in 2023

Why is this? I agree

Not the same as the foil though… I use to love flattening the wrappers out and sticking them all over my pictures for arts and crafts!

Gosh how we had fun in the 80’s 😄

I've still got half a tub from last year. Ditto Roses and Celebrations. And some After Eights. And a tin of shortbread.

YuliaJollyberry · 23/08/2023 02:27

Agree they are not what they used to be. We do get a tin for nostalgia sake and they get eaten and enjoyed. Stopped buying Roses though.

DiscoBeat · 23/08/2023 02:34

I bought my son a whole tin of toffee pennies, with his name on the tin. He loved that!
