Cheap stocking fillers not tat

Hello fellow Christmas planners,

I have a small budget this year but want to give stocking fillers that the kids will want to keep, so nothing novelty that will break straight away.

Anyone have any ideas of stocking fillers which are cheap but not disposable?

Girls aged 2-9

socks
notebooks
hair accessories
sweets - maybe unusual foreign ones that are interesting!
bath stuff
cute christmas tree decorations you can use year after year
craft activities
felt pens and pencils

To be honest I often gather up stocking fillers after xmas if they aren't used / played with and stick them back in the next year (kids too young to remember lol!). I do think stocking fillers a waste of money and also bad for environment. In our case DS doesn't look at half his gifts, I see it as a massive waste! Hence shopping in charity shops for cheap goodies and reusing older ones.

Hair bobbles/slides/scrunchies
Novelty key to be to hang on bags
Bracelets/necklaces - Claire's is great for all these younger girls stocking fillers
Bubble bath, bath bombs, novelty faceclothes
Lip balms
Craft stuff - glue sticks, stickers, pencils, felt pens, glitter glue, origami paper, look bands, colouring book/puzzle books - easy to pick up in the Works or poundshops
Socks/tights
Sweeties

liondreams · 06/07/2023 10:52

oh another idea - geodes and crystals (if not too young) e.g. pretty polished stones like quartz / amethyst - can be picked up cheaply and kids love them

HappiDaze · 06/07/2023 10:53

My DD loved, still does, bath bombs. Primark do really good sparkly ones.

Lip gloss is fun

Hairbands
Stationery

Flannel
Character toothbrush and toothpaste
Baking kit
Bath crayons
Stickers
Gloves
Bath bomb
Lipbalm

Hair bows and bobbles
Books (the works are great for these)
Sticker books
Bubble bath/bath bombs
Pens/craft sets
Orchard toys games (aldi sometimes have these in stock)
Pjs
Bubbles for younger ones
Pencil cases/waterbottle
Blanket/cushions (primark often do cheap licensed ones)
Bouncy ball

My DD has a yoto, so yoto cards always popular. If you've got a few to buy for sometimes good to buy a set and break it up.

books from charity shops that cost 50p or so? you can usually find loads that are like new for next to nothing.

Timetoeat · 06/07/2023 12:35

My go to staples are
Bath bombs
Character socks
Book
Small toys that can be added to what they already have ex lego mini figures .
Favourite sweets/Crisps
Fake Tattoo's are a hit
Stationary
Small craft activities

These are great ideas. My girls love crafts but I hadn't thought of putting craft stuff in stockings! And a nice pair of tights would also be good. And bubble bath/bath bombs.

Now I'm thinking

Some craft stuff
Tights
Tangerine
German biscuits
Bath bomb/shower gel
Hair accessory or jewelry
Notebook and multi colour pen

Jewellery from Temu
Hair accessories
Kids tattoos or stickers if they like that stuff?
Fluffy socks
Lip balm / Vaseline
Purse (not a bag)
Funky laces for shoes
Handheld fan that sprays water to cool you down

Look in charity shops for loose small toys - a friend does this - cleans them up, puts them in for bulk and any not bothered about- she redonates

My parents always gave us a bag of babybels.
I still associate them with Christmas.
We only out consumable items and a book in. So a nice shampoo/conditioner/bubble bath/bathbomb. Sweets and food items. Tube of Pringle's. A packet of bread mix or something else to bake/cook.
Socks are a given (always novelty ones).

I try to stick to the rules of
Something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read.

(And chocolate to eat while you read, obviously)

Loobydoobies · 06/07/2023 19:12

When I was a kid, we always got bubble bath, a toothbrush and a chocolate orange. We have carried that on with our LO.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 06/07/2023 19:23

I used charity shops. Books (any names or scribbles were the result of the elves being a little naughty. Videos (this was 15 years ago, or so). A large soft toy, which filled up the stocking.

My dc are now late teens/early twenties*, and I still fill their stockings with stationery, underwear and socks, and cleaning stuff (bubble bath, toothpaste, hair gel… ). Stuff I would buy anyway when my dc were small. Now the dc normally buy these things for themselves, I get nicer stuff for them.

I still shove in a yo yo and some bubbles to blow.

Some chocolate, and your stockings are filled.

*I have sat my dc down and explained about F. Christmas, but they insist they still believe.

My DD will be nearly 2 and is getting- a couple of 2nd hand puzzles, some toy animals, paint sticks, a book (also 2nd hand), a small playmobil 123 set, bath toys, a cookie cutter, a cake mix and a sticker book.
Will probably add a couple of other things. Ideas: first scissors, giant tweezers, a colouring book, bath crayons, toy cars, probably another book, an apron, bubbles, hair clips, Christmas CD and a musical instrument. But will only choose a couple from that list.

Oh she will get an orange and chocolate coins too.

ThreeRingCircus · 06/07/2023 20:07

Father Christmas brings the stockings in our house so always includes an interesting snack and drink from the world food aisle at Tesco his travels around the globe.

Other than that my standard for DDs are:

A schleich toy animal
Bath bombs
Hair slides/bobbles/hairbands
Nice tights/socks
Toothbrush
Chocolate coins
Temporary tattoos
Wildflower seeds
Little notebook
Crayons/pens/highlighters/art stuff

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 06/07/2023 20:12

Mini torches always went down well with mine. Supermarkets usually have them for a couple of pounds.

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 06/07/2023 21:13

I bought this today from B&M bargains, my first stocking filler. BB date of April 2024

This is so thoughtful and adorable 😍

I can imagine my youngest loving all of those things

I always loved and my kids love getting a magazine oriented to the right age group, possibly only for the older one(s)?
