On Christmas Day or Boxing Day?

We are from the Far East and open presents on the 25th.

Christmas morning, preferably closer to 7 than 4...

avocadotofu · 23/12/2022 09:49

Christmas Eve night because I'm half German.

TeenDivided · 23/12/2022 09:49

Christmas Day. Spread out between around 9:30am and 5pm.

Boxing Day seems unusual?

WaddleAway · 23/12/2022 09:50

Christmas morning. When we lived abroad we opened them on Christmas Eve. Don’t know anyone who does it on Boxing Day?

JoAlone2022 · 23/12/2022 09:57

Yes, Christmas morning.

I thought I heard Boxing Day was for opening boxing (presents) hence why I asked if any of you do it then. Seems like the Christmas morning is a popular time to open them!

And of course I forgot to mention Christmas Eve for those from Europe!

25th, usually late morning.
We lived in Spain for some years and had close friends from Columbia, they open their gifts on the 24th so we did the same as we always spent that time together.
6th January was another day of gifts but generally just chocolate.

Have you been watching too much Downton Abbey?

Boxing Day was the day 'staff' traditionally had their Christmas day off, and received Christmas boxes from 'the family'.

@TeenDivided

No problem. I can see if you are abroad the nuances of UK ( or just English?) traditions would be lost!

Late morning on Christmas Day. We have a light lunch then hit the turkey about 6.00 p.m.

We open ONE each at just gone Midnight on the 24th/25th

Main presents are opened after I get up and make a cuppa. Youngest DS who is last at Home gets up and opens his straight away.

Giggorata · 23/12/2022 11:38

The older the DC got, the later we opened presents.
We got to after Christmas dinner but now the DGC are getting older, I expect it'll go back to earlies.

What are 'table presents'?

BiddyPop · 23/12/2022 11:42

Christmas Day here. Stockings or any items from Santa first thing. Presents under the tree mid afternoon while turkey cooks in this house.

This year, as we're travelling, there will be a pile bundled into our arms as we emerge from our bedroom first thing (DMIL) and then more after turkey lunch at DBIL's. Then we go to my DPs around when they will start in late afternoon, before 2nd turkey for dinner....

Hence we don't travel every year!

Natsku · 23/12/2022 11:48

Christmas Eve as we're in Finland. We have some presents in the morning (ones from family and anything too big or awkward to wrap and the presents for the whole family) then we have booked Father Christmas to come at 5:30 to deliver the Santa presents (he comes in, has a chat with the children, encourages them to sing to him for their presents, and hands them out - I stick the sack in the porch ready for him).

Also doing a treasure hunt with a present for the children to share as the prize, to fill up the time waiting for Joulupukki.

ShakeYourFeathers · 23/12/2022 11:51

@longtompot basically silly little things which are small and for the table. Always been a thing in our house. As a kid it was something silly to keep us occupied at the table whilst we were eating in case we got bored

dementedpixie · 23/12/2022 15:05

Christmas day.

When the kids were small it was early
Now they are teens it's more like lunchtime

This is what I do too. But I put them inside little Christmas gift bags and we have them instead of crackers! I make little joke cards and have reusable hats so we don't miss out on the cracker bits 😁

mondaytosunday · 23/12/2022 19:58

First thing on Christmas morning! 'First thing' is later with teens than with little ones thank goodness!

KillingLoneliness · 23/12/2022 20:36

As soon as we wake up on christmas morning! :)

wendywoopywoo222 · 23/12/2022 20:43

We have ours after Christmas dinner and all the clearing up has been done. Generally around 4pm.

When we were kids we had stockings in the morning.

StandardLampski · 23/12/2022 21:33

Boxing day!
Our Christmas day tends to be a bit hectic. Either DH or I will be working at least part of it, there is usually an element of meeting up with other people / drinks, we have guests over , cooking, games etc

We do open stocking first thing, and see what santa has brought and maybe a quick couple from relatives.... but we mostly leave it til boxing day, when we can sit around and relax and do it relaxed as a family. Kids are used to it. Spreads it out a bit too.

HappiCamper · 23/12/2022 21:35

We all choose one to open before our Christmas morning hike, then open the rest after dinner.
