I've been a complete idiot....

I booked a Tesco delivery slot back in November, to arrive on 21st between 5 and 6pm. It included all the meat, drink and other food, and came to £258.

Waited for delivery yesterday, it got later and later and no delivery. We kept telling ourselves that the driver must be running late, loads of huge Christmas orders etc etc

No updates from Tesco, so at 9pm I rang to find out what was happening. To be told the driver had attempted delivery at 5.03pm but no one was in.

After a few minutes of arguing that we were in, that had the driver rung the bell we would have heard, etc etc, it suddenly dawned on me that I'd ordered the food to the wrong address......

We moved house 2 weeks ago. All my lovely food has been returned to the shelf of the store 70 miles away. Worst of all, DH and I are going to have to get up stupidly early and shop before we start work.

Has anyone else messed up their Christmas food shop or am I the only idiot?

You gave me a mini panic then OP. I booked my Christmas delivery when slightly worse for wear and I still have my mum’s address on my Ocado from Covid.
It’s coming to my address.

Glad you got your shopping sorted OP even if it did mean an early start!

I once delivered myself to the wrong address 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was in my second year of uni and had completed my (now legendary) all nighter of five essays. You had to submit them online to the plagiarism checker but also hand them in physically to the School's reception by 9am sharp. So I'd walked to uni and handed them in, on time and of course as soon as I'd received that important submission receipt alllllllll the adrenaline that had kept me going all night (along with nicotine and energy drinks) immediately left my system and I was absolutely wrecked. Completely exhausted and could think of nothing beyond stumbling back home and getting into bed.

Manage the 15 minute walk back from campus to the main student area of town, reach my front door and my key doesn't work. I am SO tired by this point. Try all the other keys I've got. Nope, definitely was the first key, that's definitely my house key. Maybe I've put it in the wrong way round? No, no that's not it either why isn't it working? Why can't I open my own door? My precious precious bed is beyond that door and down a corridor and I'm so so desperate to be in it. At this point I'm just staring dumbly at the door, key still held outstretched pointing at the lock that refuses to work. Doesn't even cross my mind to ring the bell. I just stare and stare, incapable of any thought other than 'I need to get in and go to bed'. I'm too tired even to cry although that's definitely what I feel like doing.

Fortunately at that point one of my friends walks down the road and sees me doing a very good impression of a tired dazed distressed statue and quickly and correctly works out the situation. He gently takes my arm and says the magical words 'you don't live here anymore'. I look at him uncomprehendingly but allow him to lead me to another street, two whole roads above the one I was on but (in my very weak defence) parallel to where I originally was. He then unlocks my actual door for me, makes sure I lock it behind me then I finally sink into bed.

About 14 hours later I wake up and his words finally make sense. I moved house part way through my second year. The house I was trying to get into I had moved out of at Christmas. It was now just after the Easter break. I had delivered myself to the wrong house.

Never learnt my lesson, continued to pull all nighters for every deadline, always managed to find the right home the first time after that (and still got a very good degree in the end but now always use google maps Grin)

Oh bless you.

Ah what a nightmare! You'll be laughing about it by next year.

A good while after I graduated I ordered something to my old uni halls, it all just gets delivered to an office and you have to take your ID to show its your address to collect. I had to ring and practically beg them to let me drive there, a good 2hrs away, to collect it. Can't even remember what it was now, I think it was for someone else.

@BarnacleNora oh poor you.

I did this with an Asda delivery not our Christmas shop though. We had stayed in a lodge. I forgot to change my address back to home address. Good luck with the Christmas shop.

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 23/12/2022 07:16

Bet you get everything a lot cheaper though!

ScattyHattie · 23/12/2022 07:48

Oh no, I'm glad the new house occupants had not been home to think someone was sending them a welcome Xmas gift.

My friend had tried to send me a gift from Amazon and it was delivered to her. I'm not sure how but it had a mash up of both our addresses but friends postcode was correct. Few months later she did the same thing as forgot to alter the wrong address that was saved.

I am not a fan of getting supermarket deliveries so always just go to the supermarket in person. They are never busy and I never have to queue. I always wonder if this is because everyone else is getting deliveries! Went to Morrisons yesterday in fact and it was empty.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/12/2022 09:03

@garlictwist I used to shop in person, but since I changed to working ft 10 years ago I just couldn't bear to give up some of my previous free time to traipsing round a supermarket.
It wasn't too bad yesterday, but we had to go really early as I had an 8am meeting so needed to be home by then

Well people come and go in waves. You got lucky but it was two deep in the cheese and chilled meat aisle at my supermarket yesterday.
Also the shelves tend to run out of some things. If you get a delivery the picker can grab a large milk out the chiller. In real life you’ve got to a) find a member of staff and b) that’s got enough time to help.

Coincidentally, last night Morrisons tried to delivered lots of shopping to me which had been ordered by the previous occupants (moved 5 months ago)... I let the delivery driver know where they had moved to, which was luckily was only 2/3 miles down the road.

Sadly we have moved 70 miles away. Makes me feel better that at least one other person has done the same this week!
