Do your children still believe?

And what age are they?

My dc never believed. Said it was just a man dressed in the clothes. That was before he was 2.
But we still had fun, both us parents and him pretending he exist. We still left cookies for him, spread the food on the driveway for his reindeers, until he was in ks2.

Glitterandcard · 21/12/2022 21:33

Age two autistic DC1 declared Santa was clearly a person dressed up and a stupid story - he’s been implacably opposed to all things Father Christmas related ever since. DC2 we didn’t even bother starting with the pretence.

emmathedilemma · 21/12/2022 21:37

@grapehyacinthisactuallyblue my mum tells me I never believed and apparently I said similar when I was 2 (at Christmas I’d have been nearly 3) and I’ve always figured she was exaggerating but I don’t remember ever finding out that he wasn’t real so she’s probably right!! We still went through the motions of leaving mince pie and a carrot for Rudolph every year though. My nephew is 8 and definitely still believes but he’s young for his age.

Sidking · 21/12/2022 21:38

9yo (suspected ADHD) - tried asking questions a few months back but got upset at where the conversation was going so we dropped it. He wants to believe but is definitely questioning, this year is probably his last

2yo firmly believes at this stage, was very excited to go see Santa and ask him for a robot, points at his stocking and says Santa bring Dexter robot for Christmas ❤️

purpleme12 · 21/12/2022 21:40

Yes. 9

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 21/12/2022 21:40

DS is 9 and last year he seemed a bit sceptical but this year he's been freaking out as he's not sure if he's on the naughty or nice list this time. I assume that means he still believes.

Pasadenadreaming · 21/12/2022 21:42

No. She's 8 and hasn't for a couple of years but absolutely loves Christmas regardless.

Gronkle · 21/12/2022 21:44

No, 24, 21 & 17.
Well you did ask, lol

custardbear · 21/12/2022 21:46

Yea, he's 10, going to senior school next year so perhaps it's time to fess up

ohioriver · 21/12/2022 21:47

Gronkle · 21/12/2022 21:44

No, 24, 21 & 17.
Well you did ask, lol

Beat me to it!

Logicalreasoning · 21/12/2022 23:17

Dd 10 believes, think it may be her last year. Ds15 hasn’t said if he does or not, he questioned me years ago, but I think he’s just going with it for the sake of his sister. I’ve not directly told him and he’s not directly asked me. He has ASD and doesn’t talk about personal stuff at school so won’t put himself in the position of getting bullied on that front.

Fabuleuse · 22/12/2022 00:20

Yes, 8 and 5

antelopevalley · 22/12/2022 03:02

No, they do not believe, but they are 14 and 16 so I would be concerned if they did.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 22/12/2022 06:52

Neither has actually said they don't believe, although my nearly 15year old has become more obvious with her knowing looks when we talk about Santa or the elf 😁 Just turned 12 year old I'm not sure about. But we have lots of Christmas loving friends and relatives who will all enthusiastically say that they believe so I think that has rubbed off on the kids and they don't feel the need to say it openly/are happy to be like the grownups and keep the magic going without any embarrassment.

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 22/12/2022 06:55

My 7 year old believes, my 15, 18 and 21 year olds don't though

mummyof2boys30 · 22/12/2022 06:55

Age 10, SEN and first year not believing. Ds age 12 never said but obviously knows

impossiblerequest · 22/12/2022 06:57

7 and 9 and yes, though because the Santas that you visit all look different they’ve worked out that these are actually Santa’s helpers. They believe there’s an actual Santa though.

ListenLinda · 22/12/2022 07:01

Yes, but they are 5 and 3 currently 😄

AWaferThinMint · 22/12/2022 07:01

11 know. She asked me outright after Xmas 2020 and I told her the truth.

8 year old does but is wavering. He's in the half asking questions area but clearly doesn't really want an answer. At most I've another year out of him.

autienotnaughty · 22/12/2022 07:10

The 7 and the 2 year old still do. The 22 year old doesn't anymore unfortunately.

euff · 22/12/2022 07:20

DS 10 still believes. Don't want to spoilt the magic this year but surprised. Don't know how to tell him. Any advice on how to do this? I heard my parents drunkenly getting the presents and my mum wrapping them late on Xmas eve when I was about 7 and should have been asleep. My DD said she heard us taking the presents down and putting them under the tree too.

Girasoli · 22/12/2022 07:25

The nearly 3 year old does, the 6 year old I think this will be the last year he believes...he has asked lots of questions already.

Lancasterel · 22/12/2022 07:27

DS is 9 and in Y5 - he just about doesn’t believe but this is his first non-believer year! He’d heard too much at school I think and then demanded to be told the truth!
DD is 6.5 and in Y2 and is very much still a believer!

ACynicalDad · 22/12/2022 07:27

6 year old does 8 year old isn’t sure but he’s been told he only comes to the believers so is not letting on.

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 22/12/2022 07:28

Age 6 and 8 and still believe.
I’m surprised my 8 yr old still believes. He’s so logical and questions everything. He’s awfully straight forward and very intelligent. He’s asked a few questions so I wonder if inside he ‘knows’ but he’s choosing to not questions and choosing to believe.
