It's all in the title, no clue what to make for starters so any ideas will be appreciated! Thanks!

I don’t bother, breakfast treats & snacks available all morning. Saves room for main & pud

angelopal · 16/12/2022 12:26

Goat cheese filo parcels with onion chutney and rocket.

Lentil soup for the ones that don't eat goats cheese.

Do people really do starters, I’d have though Christmas dinner and desert would be enough. The thought of serving up a starter then pulling the main together 🤯

pizzaHeart · 16/12/2022 12:28

It depends how many people or what they like. We often did smoked salmon and bread for all to help themselves or assorted sliced meat, now it’s just 3 of us we just skip starter and move to the main.

I usually don't bother but my MIL is adamant we need to have a starter 🙈🙈🙈

I always did stuffed mushrooms with a rocket salad and balsamic vinegar. I cheated and bought the stuffed mushrooms already done from the supermarket!

Tell her to do it then!

Emmamoo89 · 16/12/2022 12:36

Prawn cocktail or pâté

Emmamoo89 · 16/12/2022 12:37

It's what my mam does. Every year 😅

Alliolly · 16/12/2022 12:40

We don't do starters exactly, but we have picky bits throughout the day and do the main meal in late afternoon/early evening. Last year the potato rosti with cream cheese and smoked salmon were a hit and we had just the standard things - cheese and crackers, nuts, I think one of these Tesco duck rolls selections, pate etc. But mostly ready made things, I'm not keen on the idea of cooking starters or lunch on top of Christmas breakfast and Christmas dinner

We have prawns, smoked salmon and avocado or pate with crackers and a nice chutney

mindutopia · 16/12/2022 12:44

I make this smoked trout pate every year (though use salmon because it's easier to find) and serve with toasts and crudites, usually about 11:30 ish with some other nibbles to tide everyone over until about 2 when we have our lunch.

Ravageur · 16/12/2022 12:49

My easy go to is cantaloupe melon pieces wrapped in Parma ham drizzled with extra virgin olive oil

Ebananascroogey · 16/12/2022 12:50

Inspired by your username what about a mini toad in the hole - chipolata in a mini Yorkshire pudding? Could do them in a muffin tin?

We usually have smoked salmon with dill creme fraiche and a few salad leaves on the side.

Haha thanks

id do something easy and old school then, melon and Parma ham, something I don’t need to cook.

Actually, now I’ve written that I’m thinking I’d quite like this Christmas Day 😆

Blueberrycreampie · 16/12/2022 12:56

One year I did melon balls in a little dish with a drop fo Port. Other years I've done melon slices and cut them up fancy. Suits veggies and vegans and very light,

Blueberrycreampie · 16/12/2022 12:57

Or, smoked mackerel pate. Can be made day before and it is extremely tasty!

Timeforabiscuit · 16/12/2022 13:03

I always do an 80s prawn cocktail, kids adore it and we have starter as a light early lunch at 12, Christmas Dinner around 3pm, desert around 5pm and cheese and biscuits at 8pm.

Gaviscon at bedtime

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/12/2022 13:04

We do smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with bagels for breakfast, then we have canapés (from Tesco freezer!) at 12ish. So no starter needed for Christmas Dinner
