As per usual it's 2 weeks until Christmas and the only person with no gifts is my FIL! He is 76, doesn't read, doesn't go out, doesn't have any interests apart from his car which he cares for intimately, doesn't drink. Buys everything he ever needs for himself but will be desperately disappointed if he has nothing to open on the day. A usual I am stumped can anyone magic up any ideas please.

Nice food - nuts, cheese, chocolate

'Fun' Haynes Manuals - one about a dream car or something like the space shuttle.

Local history type things.

A few of those wax battery operated candles with a timer? For indoor or the garden.

UnusuallyUsual · 13/12/2022 17:55

An Alexa or google to play music, set timers or help with crossword clues. You can also ring each other if you have the same device.
A subscription to which magazine.
A food hamper full of his favourite nibbles.
My late Dad loved all of these

A cheese hamper.
A hot chocolate Velvetiser.
An air fryer!
A fruit hamper.
Bird bath/bird table.
Hedgehog house.
Garden bench.

My own beloved husband, who is 80, is known to love things related to trains, but even he is now asking people not to buy him train-related stuff, especially of the tat variety. He is impossible to buy for - not that he doesn't read but is a very slow reader and has a backlog of books that will probably last him years. My daughter is buying the two of us membership to a local botanical garden, which is actually a brilliant present - we can go there several times during the year for a day out we'll both enjoy.

Strippergram?

AlliwantforChristmasisgu · 13/12/2022 18:59

Socks? LOTS to choose from, from ‘I am not asleep I’m just resting my eyes’ types, to heel tread (car prints) or art inspired ones (sock affairs).

Ooh Goodwood tickets sounds good. My DH went this year through a supplier and absolutely loved it, despite not being into cars. The vintage show is also supposed to be very good if that's more his thing (someone at my work goes every year).

I have this with my elderly stepfather. Warm socks and a mini hamper of biscuits and foodstuff

One of those photo albums you can make online - with pictures of you together as a family over the years.

ninjafoodienovice · 13/12/2022 19:49

I thought all Grandads got a massive toblerone for Christmas?
We gave Fil an Enigmagram one year, it's like a series of puzzles you get in the post to work out the answer. He loved it.
If he loves his car how about an autoglym pack?

BeaLola · 13/12/2022 19:50

RingofBrodgar · 13/12/2022 21:24

Mapanas · 13/12/2022 22:11

I put on another thread that I have got my dad a car care kit from Laysons. Really nicely packaged and something I haven’t got 5 times before! Since I bought it I have also seen some good magazine reviews!

onepieceoflollipop · 13/12/2022 22:19

Things a similar aged relative has liked before (also doesn’t drink, few hobbies)
good cheese
nuts (e.g. tin from M&S)
amazon voucher to buy books
good brand ginger beer type drink
slightly unusual/old fashioned cakes such as stollen (5 small ones from M&S) or florentines

One year I gave my dad a really nice piece of steak. First time he was actually truly happy to receive a present..

This is genius.
