I have warm white in living room and bedroom multi colours.
Think the multi colours are much more festive

These photos are lovely! Xmas Smile

I'll probably put up whatever lights are working/rush out to get some if none are. I like the old style non leds best.

I thought I wouldn't like cool white but think they can look stunning with red and silver decorations.

Ooh I’m clearly going against the grain here as have red lights on my tree 😁

Puppy for attention 😂

Gorgeous!!! Have you crated the Xmas tree ? 😉

AlwaysLatte · 12/12/2022 01:15

I prefer warm white but everyone else likes colourful ones. So I found some lights that can be either, with a remote control. We've got the main tree in the hall on coloured lights and a smaller tree in the living room with white lights.
When they go out I put the big tree back to white!

Nanof8 · 12/12/2022 02:58

I have 4 different types of multicoloured lights on our tree. Ones that look like ice cubes, pinecone, little round baubles and standard mini lights. Ally outdoor lights are multicoloured as well except for 1 strand that is supposed to resemble icicles. May not be "tasteful" but I like them.

mathanxiety · 12/12/2022 03:02

Multi colored on the tree and around the back door.

WandaWonder · 12/12/2022 03:08

Now multicoloured ones because I am sensible

I did marry someone who thought blue lights looked better, why would anyone think blue lights look better??? Not I need an answer, just glad I got him out of that phase

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/12/2022 03:33

@Figmentofimagination the lights look amazing! Beautiful - love it!

Candles. Used to have the cheapo stearine versions covered in red but now usually go for a mixture with one third bee's wax so they're a nice honey colour.

How do you mount lit candles on a tree without causing a fire?

I always wondered this when looking at illustrations of ye olde Christmas trees from Victorian times.

Iamthewombat · 12/12/2022 05:31

Love those purple lights, BTW.

I am quite jealous of my neighbours’ lantern style coloured lights. They remind me of the Pifco ones we used to have when I was a kid.

AriettyHomily · 12/12/2022 06:56

All the colours here

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/12/2022 06:57

Warm white indoors. Love multi-coloured outside.

EspeciallyD · 12/12/2022 07:08

Multi-coloured always, white just aren't very festive IMO.

user1634987 · 12/12/2022 07:11

Warm white I think, they came with the tree we wanted so didn't really have a choice, they look nice though

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/12/2022 08:13

Warm white and old fashioned coloured. Tree is a bit too big for the number of white lights, but I like it anyway.

Cool white on living room tree, multi coloured on dining room and doorstep trees.

Scarfymcscarface · 12/12/2022 08:23

I hate those cheap “warm white” led lights that look more like orange in colour.

used to hate the frosty/cool/bright whites but may give them a rethink.

Wrongsideofpennines · 12/12/2022 08:29

Usually we have white on the tree but we used them elsewhere this year so have multicoloured that can do loads of flashing things and I actually love them. And so does my almost 2 year old so maybe we'll do them this way round next year too.

We had some Pifco Cineralla ones that I loved as a child.

I looked recently and a single set was selling on eBay for £200! Shock

OhAmBackAgain · 12/12/2022 08:33

Multi coloured on one tree warm white on the other one.

Both trees have mixed old tree toys, baubles, ornaments and the kids hand made Dec's. I've never gone for the co-ordinated Hotel tree look. DC always helped decorate both trees too.

Hugasauras · 12/12/2022 08:35

Multi-coloured! Now we have kids we go for maximum colour and festive cheer, so we have multi-coloured tree and fairy lights and baubles of every colour. Before kids I usually did a tasteful warm white with colour-coordinated baubles but honestly although it looked lovely it didn't give me the same joy as our tree does now!

WhaleInAManger · 12/12/2022 08:38

Obligatory photo (because I am loving seeing everyone's trees and it's only fair I contribute)

Tree 1) in lounge - warm white & reds (hidden deep in the tree). A nod to being a lifelong Man Utd supporter!
Tree 2) in bedroom - white tree, pink lights, themed rose gold, deep burgundy, a little silver & pink.
(Tiny) tree 3) in hallway - micro LED white & multicoloured (blue, green, purple?) LED.
Christmas Village tree 4) (only 4 inches tall) - micro LED warm white bottle lights.
Boughs in lounge - warm white LED
Swag on fireplace - LED red holly lights

In my defence, having been a theatre tech for decades until disability struck, Christmas was all about lights 😂

I just looked them up, they are gorgeous. Especially the box.

I always wondered this when looking at illustrations of ye olde Christmas trees from Victorian times.

I'm based in Germany and lots of people still use live candles! There are clip-based systems that fit with the standard size tree candles sold everywhere. You mount the candles unlit obviously and make sure they're really upright. Then to light them on Christmas eve there are long sticks with another candle mounted at the top that you use to light all the others. There's also a little hat-like contraction on the stick so you can snuff the flames before they're fully burned down. We usually go through two sets of candles in Christmas season and never ever had a problem. Basically, you never light them unless people are around (what would be the point anyway!) You also make sure the tree is reasonable fresh - doesn't go up until morning of Christmas eve and sits in fresh water - and also that there's space enough above the candles.

I adore it because it's so special. The German tradition is presents on Christmas eve so after dusk. Kids get shooed out of the living room while presents are arranged and candles lit, then they get to come in to see them all ablaze with no other lights in the room.

aubergineterrine · 13/12/2022 12:36

I have warm white on the tree but prefer traditional coloured lights like my childhood.

I would love to find some coloured lights that don't have a bright blue just nice subtle colours like pink, green, red, orange, even a soft blue but can't find them anywhere. I just find the really bright led blue too modern and not nostalgic.
